Some things that I kind of find neat-o with Rift:
1) Integration with Youtube and Twitter. As a medium-fart rapidly becoming an old-fart that doesn't really get into the whole social media deal, I do find it very cool that there are Youtube and Twitter integrations. The latest 1.1 patch that came out today (3/30/11) lets you now take 3 minute videos of gameplay using the in-game video capture tool and upload them automatically to Youtube if you supplied your account.
2) Mobile cell authenticator linked to an in-game title "The Ironclad" introduced with 1.1. The secondary neat-0 thing about it is you lose the title if you change your password to a password you previously had. Yes, that means they record yourprevious passwords, but I still kind of find it a neat-o feature. However, me being a cheap-ass and not having a smart phone, I'll never be able to get this achievement. (Damn you new-fandangled technology!)
3) Being distracted. Yes, while I find this as a positive, others will find it as a negative for the exact same reason (different strokes for different folks, eh?). But I really enjoy starting out on a quest, being distracted by something along the way like a rift, an invasion, an area of mobs that I can butcher for hides for crafting... ...and before I know it, I'm off doing something for an hour and complety forgot abou the quest I originally started out for. I haven't felt this since Ultima Online pre-trammel.
4) Anyone addicted to finding artifacts? Anyone purposely shy away from buying artifacts from the auction house cause the random nature of "ooohh, a shiny! what will it be?" will be completely dimished? I find that level of randomness pretty neat.
5) I'm 1.5 levels away from level 50 as a Guardian and I haven't even done a single quest in Stillmoor and Iron Pine Peak yet.
The not-so neat-o list:
1) There is no way on God's green earth that I should be dismounted, debuffed, slowed, ganged upon, and killed by mobs 25 levels below me. This is subjective, I agree. But I think that's just lame as all hell.
2) The uber rarity of purple sourcestone rewards from invasions. I've gotten 1 thus far at level 48.5. Hopefully the 1.1 patch will address that since you are no longer judged against players. Don't get me wrong, I wan't them to be hard to get. They SHOULD be hard to get. Its my own personal opinion they are TOO hard to get.
3) Again, my cheap-ass is going to show here. But does anyone find the prices to use the ports outrageous!?!?!
I'm interested to see other people's neat-o and non-neat-o list.

I get distracted from questing very easily.
The crafting is addictive in my opinion. The way that you can salvage weapons or armor that you craft, which gives you roughly half of what you spent to build it, makes me want to keep on crafting for a long time even while I need to be questing.
I agree with the dismounting, it's something small, but worth changing for Trion.
Rift
About the teleport thingie , its true its more expensive than other games, but imo money is relatively easy to make in Rift. On the other hand, while travel maybe more expensive, respeccing is relatively cheap, which suits me just fine as i like fidgeting a lot with my chars.
I agree with you on most points besides #2 on the "not-so-neat-o list"... I'am lvl 25 and have 2 purple sourcestones already lol! Funny because last night i also found two purple crafting mats back to back.. Also on #3 i think its a good money sink to have ports cost you, cuz lets face it, platinum is pretty easy to come by (even at my lvl.) In AION it cost you an arm and leg to teleport lol
Currently Playing:
Rift + Starcraft II + Gears Of War 3 Beta
Just a hint about purple stones...
You are almost guaranteed to get one when there is an "invasion" in a zone (many rifts of the same type) and you close a few rifts and then participate in killing the Big Boss that came along with the invasion. You'll often get it even if you can't make it to the boss fight before he's down.
Having said that, due to the population volumes, this is much easier to do at the lower levels when a lot of people are concentrated in the one zone.
The OP mentioned being 48.5 and never having done quests in Stillmoor or Iron Pikes...that's why it's much harder to get high level purples: high level players are spread out over those 2 zones and also shimmering sands all of which have 45-50 content. The lower the population in a zone, the less often major rift invasions occur.
