Cheyenne and Ryan, owners of a young, liver problematic cat are reaching out to everyone. All donations go toward Oci’s veterinary expenses.
Our small bodied, full of young life and ripened with love Oci has recently become stricken with severe liver problems. It is turning both his life and ours upside down. He is only about 3 years old which is uncommonly young to have problems with the liver. It was sudden, and of course devastating, and we are trying to cope emotionally and sensibly while being financially challenged. It is curable however too much for us to cover alone.
My fiancé and I have owned animals all of our life but none have leeched onto our hearts quite like our little striped and swirled pattern tabby; Oci. About three years ago he was found outside of a friend’s home and taken back to our house where he would find new friendship in my cat, Ray, and best friendship in my fiancé, Ryan. Ryan was unemployed at the time and to conserve money we would hardly go out, so the relationship between him and my fiancé rapidly strengthened. My older cat, Ray, is not the playful spirit like he once was so Oci could only find playtime with Ryan, and he never passes up a playful kitten! He even got to go outside on a harness and leash. Essentially, they spent every hour of their days together.
It wasn’t until my fiancé left for a month long job that Oci began showing charm and affection to me. It was the first morning when I woke up to that “feeling” of something staring straight through me. I opened my eyes and to my disbelief, and confusion, Oci was staring at me about 10 inches from my face. He reached out a furry white-toed paw and patted my nose. It was as if he was thinking “what’s going on here?” and he proceeded to do so every day for a week or so. This is where our friendship finally bloomed and has kept blossoming for another 2 ½ years.
My fiancé, a Star Wars fan, began calling him Oci Wan Kenoci, which has really stuck as his nickname and a title that would be too short lived if he doesn’t get the help he needs; this is where I conceived the fundraising title ‘Oci’s Only Hope’ for our young feline, because this really is his only hope! I have looked for other means of financial support and this is the only place we have to ask for all the help we can get.
My fiancé has a credit card and a Care Credit card, both that are nearly maxed out due to the vet bills for our cherished Oci. My fiancé is 25, I am 24, and we’re trying to get into college as well. His family has helped as much as they can, but they can’t help anymore. My side does not have the finances to help at all.
Thank you for any help you can give; it is immensely and genuinely appreciated!

dude it's just a cat

Dude, I know. If you loved something as much as I do with this cat you'd do the same.

i love cats too. i have two of them but it's more merciful to put him to sleep than to raise funds to give a cat a new liver and a lifetime of pills

They don't have to give him a new liver. They just did a X-ray on him and ultrasound. He's on IV fluids now and a few meds. If he doesn't recover from that, they'll do a small biopsy which is just a needle into the liver, I believe. Really, we are just maxing out all our credit cards and need help. For a 2 1/2 year old cat who still has a lot of life to give, it's impossible to just let him go. I know not everyone's going to be sympathetic, which is fine. I'm just looking for the people who might be and have some extra money to spare.
He's not in any pain. He's just lethargic and has no appetite at the moment. We caught his symptoms early enough to be able to help him. If he ends up recovering we'll cancel the fundraising. He's a very weak cat right now The vets also think it isn't liver disease because it's very uncommon for a cat his age to have it.

if you can fax me proof of his illness (like photocopies of the vet records with the phone numbers of the vet to confirm) I will help

I just read the link and saw the word "give" and I moved on. I didn't realize it was for a cat.
Your answer:
If you really wanted the liver levels and everything, I could, with the AHAA certified vet to confirm. Really, if you can't afford to give, it's not a problem.

Brutal

Maxing out your credit cards and going into debt while possibly declaring bankruptcy in the future and passing along higher interest rates to other consumers - all for a cat - is brutal.
I love my cat, but I would sooner spend $100 to have him euthanized. You're either scamming for money or falling prey to a scamming vet.
Picture from iphone doesn't look great, but that's just the bill from yesterday. We are doing the IV fluids at home to save money. There's an xray on there to see the size of his liver, which was only a little small on one side. That points to not long term. The amount we have on our donation is just incase. We're hoping to get only a fraction of that and hopefully see a quick recovery. You're not sympathetic and I'm not asking you to be, but I'm not scamming anyone. We aren't the kind of owners who randomly look up a vets name in the phone book and go. We put alot of research into our vets to make sure we're getting the best care at the most reasonable rate.
Also, the fact that you would sooner spend $100 to euthanize a pet really says how different we are. I can't help but feel the way I do towards this specific animal.

On the contrary, I am sympathetic, but I am also realistic. I've had my current cat for 5 years now. My very first pet was a mangy little 4 week old 'mutt' kitten which was abandoned on the side of the road. I was 9. I nursed it back to health and it lived for 9 years before I had to put her down for complications from arthritis.
They become 'part of the family' and it is sad to see them go, but they are not worth overburdening yourself with debt for a procedure which may not work.
You didn't need to edit out Youngblood, by the way.
naw, just email me your Vet's phonenumber and address so i can confirm

Lol. For some reason I didn't want my fiance's name on this forum. I understand being realistic, but I spent alot of money on my computer, my guitar, and things like that. This cat means more than those possesion, which is why, with the exception of my computer, are on ebay to balance my credit card back out/future vet visits. I can always get those things back. I'm not trying to be a douche, I just really love my cat and I don't think of him as disposable when conveinent. If it was a long term problem where he could never get better, I'd give him up, but it's very likely he'll be able to recover this with the right treatment and live without complication. I can't help how I feel about it.

Most i spent on an animal is 2 grand when my dog was bleeding from her nose. 2 days went by and they told us she had nasal cancer and 6-8 months to live =( ... That was two years ago and here she is still alive and kicking. All in all a few pills usually help. just endless research their condition and make sure all the money youre paying for the dangerous expensive tests is worth it.
That's really great to hear. If the iv fluids and medication don't work, that will be the difference between spending alot and a medium sum. We're lowering it now, just incase we get more that we need.

Hmm, why don't you borrow some money of a really close friend/relative to pay for saving your cat, or take out a loan. I'm sorry to say but to almost any other person they only see your cat as a cat. Only you see the precious cat you love and have known for so many years.
We're all Geniuses. Most of us just don't know it.
Take out a loan? That being said.. If my Pumpkin was dying, I'd be soooooooooooo sad. I love my kitty. He's the meanest, most evil cat in the world, but he's my cat! And he's fluffy, and orange.. and I love the way he meows. SO CUTE!
Now I'm sad. I'm afraid Pumpkin will get sick >.<

My car loan plus mortgage, on paper, don't make me a good candidate for another loan, especially since the mortgage is so fresh. I do realize I'm the only person who see's my cat how I see him, but that doesn't really change the fact that we're fund-raising so he can live.
Most likely, it's Feline Liver Disease. We are extremely lucky to catch it as fast as we did, as we can potentially treat it. I won't know that it's FLD until his biopsy results comes back next week. So far it's cost us right around $880, but if it is indeed FLD, we'll be better able to calculate how much more we'll need. I assume it would just be more iv fluids, special cat food, and bi-weekly bloodwork to make sure it's going in the right direction. Although that sounds expensive, it's not bad compared to the other cost. I feel like I'm rambling, but we just don't know what it is for certain yet.
I don't get the pumpkin thing.

Ohhhhh! Pumpkin's the cat! My mind is deteriorating
I would say I might be more senitive to the situation. I love animals and kids. They're not corrupted like we are, so when I see they're in a good home, I couldn't be more happy. After we get this money and my jobs pick up, I promise you I will be "paying it forward". I always appreciated people donation, but rarely did it. This whole thing, regardless of the outcome, has changed my entire perspective on it.

Pumpkin is my cat's name :O. I found him in October and he's Orange, so that's why he's named Pumpkin. When I rescued him, he was smaller than the palm of your hand. Now he's big, fluffy and mean. Loves to bite feet, too. Don't know why...

I have the money to bring my cats to the vet to get their cancer cut off (would cost everything in my bank though . ...) but the thing is that I honestly do not think that they want that.
I think it is best that I just have fun with them and make the most out of our time together while we have it rather than taking them to the vet because they will be very angry with me and not want to play and become very depressed when returning.
One is almost 20 years old and the other is almost 17 I think?
Good cats but be careful when bringing them to the vet because if it truly is their last days do you really want it spend with them at the vet all scared?

Cat's recovering. He's not going to have any long term problems, if anyone's keeping up. Biopsy came back as Feline Liver Disease.... We also nearly raised all the money we needed. Thanks a ton if anyone here helped.
