I got a digital download of the game for less than that off Ebay at launch.  Probably still possible to do the same.

That came a little faster than I expected. Man, I'd love to hear some real population numbers at this point. I'm quite curious and I'm sure I'm not alone.

While I know they're not real numbers all the servers I play on appear packed and I rarely if ever see servers on low status.  IMO I don't think the discount is a sign of anything bad.  Of course, I'm still curious to see the numbers Trion puts out as well.

Nice price, I paid only little more then that for my digital CE so I dont see how its drastic tho. But good for everyone I guess =)

edit: I think Trion already has done better then anyone including themselfs thought, and now they're trying to keep momentum.

Server Population hasn't been an issue for me, I'm still lagging when I go into Meridian from all the toons running around.

hmm, what with the discounts and a free ally code weekend, it does ask the question as to whether people aren't playing past the first month they got with the game.

On a sidenote, on EU the headstart shards in the evenings, 19:00 GMT, are normally on high population, the rest of the shards on medium, but the newest shards they opened for the retail release, well there's numerous ones on low population.   I've noticed this trend for at least the past week as i knew peoples subs were coming up for renewal and normally population can drop off a week or a few days before it ends.

I thought seeing "drastic discount" i was gonna find the game to be $10 - $19 bux on every website that offered the game, not %28 off for a limited time only on an unheard of digital sales site.

I actually think the ally weekend is great for them and the players regardless of the current population situation.  I easily have 5+ friends that would love to try the game before they decide to purchase and this will give them the chance to do so,.

28% is not much of a drastic price drop.

Many mmo do this to try bring in new customers.

I think you should use the actual dollar amount of the discount lol.....If I was thinking seriously about buying a $10,000 dollar car, and all of a sudden they told me I could have it for $7200 I would buy if for sure. Percents don't show that it isn't a good deal.

This is a good move for them. They now have considerable operating capitol coming from monthly subs as well as a large pile from initial box sales. They have their foot in the door. Now it's time to build a wedge in said door so it doesn't close.

Dropping the price is a good way to get people to bite as well as this weekends event.

I'm not subbed but it's for no other reason than I've been there done that. It's a quality title with allot to build on. I hope they do well.

I dont think the population, atleast on my server is in any danger whatsoever. Wether im playing a new alt, or my higher level main character, every zone almost always has a very healthy player presence. Game doesnt revolutionize, but its damn sure alot of fun.

    Currently Playing : Rift, EQ2
Has Played: Anarchy Online, SWG(Pre NGE refugee), DAoC, EQ1, EQ2, Lineage 2, CoH, CoV, Horizons, AoC, FFXI, FFXIV, Aion, WoW, DCUO, Matrix Online, Vanguard, Tabula Rasa, LotRo, Fallen Earth, Shadowbane, EQoA, ArchLord

Maybe they are just being aggressive with their marketing and hoping they have enough good word of mouth going that more people will jump in at seeing a lower price for it.

My server has more than enough people at most hours (does start to dwindle a bit at 4am or so)

My god has horns.... nah, I don't think he is real either.

This is how the game market is now. It has nothing to do with population, sales, etc. What it does have to do is the fact that a majority of the sales are done in the first few months and they want to capitalizes on them. If you wait a few weeks you can get the new hit release that is selling incredibly well will be 10-20 dollars cheaper on popular sites.

I imagine that they probably had a goal for box sales/downloads at "full" price, probably enough to cover a certain % of development costs, and now they've probably hit it. Now, they're probably shooting for a certain number of box sales so that they can come out with a good "1 month later" total.

Clearly, the game has been successfuly sales-wise, so it's hard to imagine that discounting implies anything "drastic".
