Swtor time filler?

jillbrownjillbrown Member Posts: 25

Hey guys, basically im currently waiting for swtor to be released, was playing wow in the mean time but cataclysms reheated wrath of the lich king leftovers are just to dull... Anyone have any recommendations on a good, polished mmo to keep me occupied?

Hmmm. Depends on what you're looking for in an MMORPG.

Based upon the MMO you played and the one you're anticipating, I'd say that Rift or LotrO would be a good choice as time filler.

The ACTUAL size of MMORPG worlds: a comparison list between MMO's

The ease with which predictions are made on these forums:
Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."

I rather enjoy Lord of the Rings Online myself.  Can check it out without having to spend anything to see what you think of it.

Rift is a decent mmo although since it just came out you're looking at having to purchase the game at or near full price to check it out.

Those are the two that stand out to me right now.

EDIT: O_o Wtf? Named the exact two games Maverick did. Lol

    1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

    2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

    3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

I personally found LOTRO to be a bit dull...pretty, but boring... you could always do what i'm doing and play Aion, then portal 2 when it comes out to kill time.....

that would be an expensive time filler!!! there are so many f2p games around, that for the sake of a few months.. would be better off playing them.. personally i'd opt for DDO.. or PWI...  but if spending a bit of cash isnt a problem.. then i'd say play Rift.. its a pretty good game..image

    Lord of the Rings.

Probably will still stick with it some even after swtor comes out.

Such a vast interwoven world with a history and story about everything there.

    Great story.

    Great game.

    But still impatiently waiting... lol

Rift does excite me for its polished, familiar feel like WoW but with more innovation, but im reluctant to spend the money without a trial first.

Anyone know how Warhammer online is nowadays? Played at release but left due to lack of polish and unpopulated servers

I suggest not playing a MMORPG that might resemble SWTOR for months just before moving on to TOR. Play really different MMOs or SP games that have near endless content like M&B and Civ5.

WAR has gotten a little better but the population is still low and the over all quality is not as good as Rift.

I'd stay away from LotRO if you ask me.  It's losing everything that makes quality MMOs good and slowly gaining everything that makes F2P MMOs bad.

If you've got 1-3months to kill I'd recommend DCUO so long as you're not looking to go past 3months.(and that could be stretching it with it's limited content)

Rift is a good choice too but you already said why you're against it.

As for Warhammer server... um why don't you try it, it's free after all.

If you don't mind jumping into the past, GW is a good game as long as you can get used to it not being a MMO.  If you've got an eye out for GW2 then I'd largely recommend checking out the first.  Give it a try, if you don't like it then give it another big chance before making your final decision.  It's pretty cheap and is only buy to play.

Other than all that, I don't know what to say.  While I'm not a WoW player, I seem to be in the same boat looking and looking for a game to fill my time until certain games come out... TOR GW2 Portal2 ArkhamCity Diablo3 Torchlight2 etc... I feel like gaming has been in a pretty big draught these last two years.  I guess that's what I get for not fanboying mainstream releases.

We really need separate forums for every newly launched game. There can be the anti-<MMO> one and there can be the 'what general discussion should be' one. All the lamenting can happen together where each can find solace in like minded can't-move-on-ers leaving the rest of us to actually move forward and discuss meaningful and relevant topics.

Just go play Guild Wars. Instanced game except for towns and mission areas but it is far superior compared to most mmos.
