MMORPG.com's resident Survivor Guy, Adam Tingle, is back at it again. This time, Adam has been spending some quality time with Xsyon. After a few minutes have passed, I notice a strange sound. Obscured by the foliage, a small fox has approached my form and started gnawing and clawing. Panicked, I rise to my feet, stumbling. Bereft of ideas I turn tail and run down the hill, fox in hot-pursuit, and baying for blood. Like a cruel reversal of fortune, I am now the weak creature being hunted. My legs pump faster and faster, but my physical fitness fails me. I stop, hands rested upon knees, mouth desperately sucking the atmosphere for air. Within seconds the marauding fox is caught up to me - looking this little creature in the eye I stand resolute, I hope you choke on my entrails you fiend! Welcome to Xsyson Survivor Guy.

Yes! Xsyon is a game where each player could write about their first week in the game and each description would be distinctly different. If any MMO is perfect for a Survivor Guy article, Xsyon is. Great article so far. Looking forward to the next one.
There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein

Wonderful create writing, I applaud how you made what is a truely awful game sound interesting and fun. And yes I did play Xsyon for the best part of day. The one thing I learnt from doing so, was that it's a good idea to wait for free trials. Just wish I'd spent the money on beer and smokes instead of buying this game (a term I use with great generosity). My advice is read about it, dont play it.
Naked griefers doesn't really inspire me to want to enter this world. Take away the PvP and maybe.
so that is where you have been for the past few weeks instead of writing another rant column. naked baseball bat/golf club wielding griefers to top it off, you have a gift when you can make a horrible game seem like fun adam.

rofl...that's funny. That paragraph reflects my concern, as someone that spent a bit of coin on this hope-train over a year ago, but got tired of the deception and false-starts.
Keep us posted when of a free trial, but until then, I assume the worst.
The first two hours of Xsyon are pretty incredible.

In my opinion, they need to add a lot more to this game to make it even the least bit fun. It is a gatherer and crafter paradise though. I bought the game cause all my friends go into it, wish I hadn't. Ask them what's going on and they say, leveling the ground, gathering grass, building tents. One guy spent hours just leveling the ground....not my kinda game.
If they had more, smarter animals (follow trails, smell you, leave tracks, require water/food) with a skill tree for hunting. Even a trapper type profession I might could see getting into it.
The devs seem to be able to make changes quickly. It's a bare bones game right now, might revisit later.
though the idea of extensive player content appeals to me greatly, players should not be the only source of content if the game is to succeed.
Very nice read! The game really grabbed my attention when I first started playing, it truely does feel like a sandbox. I actually got excited about cutting trees down and the tree actually falls to the ground! Yea its dumb, but I have never seen that in an MMO before. I am in a really nice Tribe and I enjoy when I can help them out. I am waiting for teh devs to add Cooking to the game so that I can get to work on it. But I have been mainly fishing and help carrying resources to the Tribe area.
This game does have a lot of issues, mainly with lag. And also after the last patch or two I am having some graphics issues. I was able to set the game at max visuals, but now I have to lower everything and I still have problems. Not sure what they did but I wish they did not touch it, lol. But overal it is a very nice change from the usual themepark MMOs out there. Looking forward to what the devs have planned for the game.

For those of you who dont like pvp too much buy the game spawn in sugar pines and pm me /w fatboy i know alot of you are worried about gankers. But the gankers have to worry about being pked themselves. alot of use set up several zones and inforce a peace policy, so if ya attack any1 ya become KOS and we kill ya anytime ya come near us :-) (very effective it is). So any wanting to buy the game spawn in sugar pines. ) The Preatorian Guards-Nuetral-Trading Tribe) all time zones. btw nice article op. Cant wait to read more. and Op if ya wanna explore come to zone 896-position 918 828. anything ya need i can get it :-)
Yeah, I have to agree with fatboy, who has his camp setup very close to my tribe's. Certain areas of the map will be more dangerous than others depending on what tribes are nearby, so it's a matter of seeking out the good ones for protection and setting up camp nearby if you want to play solo and with more security.
Otherwise, Xsyon is a great game if you're tired of themepark MMORPGs. Sure, it's a work in progress and some patience is necessary, but it's still fun. In the day and age of $60 simplistic remakes like Modern Warfare 2, if you can't find $40 for something unique and different, I don't know what to tell you.
Yep, im near both Alex and Fatboy, im part of the slightly more aggressive tribes that recently toned down over in Ceddarat. both of them are great guys and lately the only pvp action going on is from one roaming greifer.
As most people say Xsyon has no content, Xsyon has no this or that.
What it does have is the ability to shape the game you want to, these statments from Themepark MMO players are like going to the beach and going "WTF there are no sand castles."
Yes it has some bugs, yes some times you have issues, the development team is a small indie company, how ever the reviews of most players are based on one play session or a week at best.
over the course of the last 3 weeks the game has improved in stability and issues. there is a noticible progression of things getting fixed.
I dont understand how players that like games like Minecraft couldn't like Xsyon, i can not count the number of times i have lost a save file in minecraft(read 2-3 weeks of work) or it would just crash to the desktop. That is when people were paying for alpha, that game is still in beta and yet people still buy it.
if you like mmo's and you like minecraft then xsyon is for you. if you only like wow and want to be held by the hand then no this game probally wont be up your ally.
If you looking to join a tribe and want to pvp, craft or builds cities then start in Ceddarat and PM TokTok
I am a member of Fatboys tribe.. its a great area.. Its a sandbox game and the people that whine about being ganked constantly and whine about this and that reallllllly need to go back to their spoon fed games... I have... ALOT of hours in game and have never been PKed.. if you manage your stamina (so you can sprint) and go out in groups and arent a complete moron the PKers arent an issue in the slightest.. I dont know why anyone would buy this game without researching it first in the first place. "No Objectives, No quests, bland graphics, OMG IZ SO HARD HOW CAN I PLAY WITHOUT ALL THE TOOLS I NEED" = Wow playing perma noobs lmao
Hmmmmmm - that was a hilarious bit of writing - b4 reading ur account - I want to chk out the FAQ on the site and liked the sound of the game - except for the PvP bits out of tribal areas. I was seriously thinking of playing this game .......... BUT........now I won't, hilarious as it sounds from the writing - I can imagine that fear, and not being able to actually ask for help with joining up to an organised set of players without some Idiots reading the chat decide come to kill me and Steal what I had worked for seems pointless to me. So I guess there goes another game I thought had promise - but doesn't for me.

I'll probably hop on again when they have some more features, namely, new ways to haul items. It was rather annoying (along with being boring) to have to travel a mile from camp to find a fresh tree, chop it down, and then carry the logs back one by one. i could pre-chop them and make my items right there, but with the encumbrance it would take me literally half an hour to get back to camp, along with me being an easy target for a nude ganker. Give us some pack mules, a cart, or even a little red wagon - anything is better than schlepping back and forth for hours at a time.

Xsyon sounds like a great game if you need a job.
But if you're like me and have a real life and a real life job - then sorry - I don't have time to build in fantasy what I'd rather build for myself in reality.
Well It seems like you might have been playing just as long as the said PK's or so? I think that might be accurate. Well I LOVE a good sandbox game, However if your new, and don't know how to play yet, and you get ganked by pk's that have been playing the game for quite some time, well I would not call that being a noob, or any such thing.
Hell I garuntee if you played UO when I did, and I had my well established red and PK'd you while you where trying to figure our a good mining spot, or chopping tree's its not because your a noob and you suck, it is because you are new to the game, have not gained your bearings, I have been playing for awhile and I just wanted to kill ya.

This comment just makes your community look bad. I was dissappointed by that stuff as well, other than the graphics and quests, which i could care less about. So that means I play wow right? that I just want to be spoon fed everything? Because I did not enjoy your game because it was in my own opinion boring? Must be that I play wow. Must be. Nevermind the fact I haven't touched the game in 4 years, and still enjoy my time in Felucia on a UO emu shard. But hey If someone doesn't fit your style they are a 12 year old that plays wow right? As I said, its people like you who make these comments to "defend" your game that makes your entire community look terrible.
The game really lacks ANY type of tutorial, which is very daunting. I don't need an in depth one, but just something to go over the bare basics would be great to have.
OH and I researched the game for about two days, talked to people on the forum watched some Youtube video's, and well I felt VERY lied to, and was pretty pissed about the $40 loss. but oh well what can ya do? If people enjoy it, then awesome, but do not slam people like me that do not because it is not what it states itself to be. Hell even the screenshots are so deceptive from when i played it wasn't even funny! They talked about building cities and all kinds of stuff. Then at the time when i logged in, all you could do was build the ground up and down.
Like was posted earlier, this is a crafting/building game with PvP, pretty much no PvE, and a VERY unfinished product, that they advertise as more finished than it is. I guess for me I will still wait for a second coming of UO. And again if you enjoy this game great! I am not slamming you, just imo It isn't my cup of tea.
No it isn't... Xsyon will be the game for less pvp centric players once they start to add in more features. You really need to read up on stuff before you talk about them.
honestly players who like mmo's and have played minecraft would be at home here, players that like quests with radar and over head maps and waypoints will not like this game. its simply the genre of the game.
allot of people come in and say the game is crap because they are lacking things like maps and waypoints, there no quests and theres nothing to do.
how ever those players also do not understand what a sand box is mostly about, you go the the beach and there is sand everywhere, but no sand castles. you take your tools and make sand castles, some one comes along and kicks it in your face and you either take it or get into a fight.
there are no premade sand castles in the game. Player that like both Minecraft and Wurm will like Xsyon.
players that dont like either one of those games are better off playing another one.
Some players are looking for the next level in mmo's and sandboxes with FFA pvp, Full loot will move to games like this and earthrise, Mortal and darkfall.
how ever so will the gankers from DF, that mmoninja site already has a thread from some guy asking if a trainer is going to be made for the game. hopefully not.
the game is a apoc simulator for all respects and less of a game. there is no direction and no tutorial because you were dropped into nowhere. there is a manual which is more like a guide. the best information is other players.
there are lonely hermits and some of them are gankers that stockpile there loot but for the most part you will have to interact with other players since you dont start off being able to make everything or have everything.
your given 2 skills to pick which start you off ahead of starting skills and 1 crafting skill. this gives you the tools for those skills. if you want to do something else you need to trade.
later on item/skill decay will be added
Really dont rate the game based on its not for you, thats like me saying how i dont like WoW and it sucks becasue i personally dont like it.
if you didnt like playing fall out new vegas on hard core mode you will not like this game, i dont go to the WoW forum and review it because thats not my taste in mmo's, so i ask people to really think before you start going and rating this game.
Your sandbox/beach analogy is silly...as are most game/real life analogies.
This game needs more to do and needs to get rid of the FFA PvP. Then...watch the population skyrocket.

That would be why I have no interest in this game either. Everything sounds great up until the end and that is how so many articles end - killed by some guy while you hardly know how to play the game.
