I just bought the game earlier this week. Just wanted to say it was well worth the buy. My wife and brother both like it much more than WoW. My expirience so far has been great with fastest load times in any MMO so far, best graphics and it runs smooth and looks just outstanding. The combat is the real shine and it has been polished to perfection for it's release.
I have tried a variety of builds but i'd say warrior is my favorite. When i'm in combat i feel like im watching some footage from troy or gladiator with the excellent fighting animations. The sword play is just phenominal and the sound effects of the beasts and weaponry when in combat is better than any MMO out there.
Personally combat is the most important feature to me, whether it be pvp or pve. When i'm in pve i do feel like it is a pvp battle and right off the bat your defending the city or it's civilians. The town is ever changing and the story progresses quickly. I think Guild ars started off to fresh and unique. Your lvl 1 character looks great and fights enemies much stronger than frogs, pigs, or other stupid creatures most MMO have you hunting right away.
The class combonations are almost endless it seems and the customization and skil lchoices are exactly what ive wanted since the last time i played Diablo 2. I always love to expiriment with mixes of skills and weaponry together and guild wars only expands upon that idea that Diablo 2 had with various build for each class.
Even though expansions will introduce elves and dwarves ect, i kinda wish they just put it in the begining game. Although i do realise that leveling isnt too difficult but i have heard in the beta characters went up all the way to lvl 40. I am looking forward to the content in the future but i don't see how the game currently is going to fade quickly. If i can still play diablo 2 after many years, i most certainly will be able to with this. Especially with the fun pve that lets you fight fun monsters as well as have some pretty big npc helpers + players to create a regiment of fighters fighting hordes of enemies. The Char are incredible to fight and very fearsome enemies and i really have fun slugging it out in close quarters with them. All the creatures for that matter are very good looking and very unique, the artist did some great concepts to create interesting opponents.
I am looking forward to the pvp since it is the primary focus of the game. PvP is why i play online games so i know once i get in a good guild with my warrior/necromancer things will start getting even better. Guild was is perfect for action/RP lovers and i would say to most players confidently that this game will satisfy your needs if you can leave aside boring things IMO like: professions/crafting, grinding, monthly fees, oh and jumping lol. I would like to see mounts but it isnt a primary need over new classes, lands, large sacle pvp wars, and new pve enemies i'd rather see first implimented. Although id like to see a RPG with mounted fights unlike WoW lame mounts you can't do squat on.
cheers guild wars, your a mighty fine game worthy of MMO/RPG fans.
p.s still waiting to see some good Role Players in guild wars. If there any guilds out there that rp send me a private message.

There is no spoon. Enter The Matrix
ditto
i would love to see roleplaying in guild wars, but unfortunately i don't really think it would work in the game. it's not in depth like Ultima Online was. now THAT was some good roleplaying
but still, i'm quite content to play without roleplaying.
it bothers me not, sirrah!!
[we need a worldwide genocide/ a planetary suicide/ and when the whole damned world is dead/ there''s your f***ing peace]

GW rocks. Period. Beyond the game, the community is a balance of mature enough not to act like a bunch of a$$holes yet loose enough to have fun. Post-apocalyptic nakey dancging 4tw!!!
Guild Wars is still an MMO.
I was really reluctant to pick GW up, im glad i did though. I really thought this was going to be a toned down WoW because it didn't have the tradeskills and as large of a world with so many races. I like WoW story more but WoW the game doesnt live up to it well anyhow.
It all really comes down to skill/class depth and the quality of the combat and animation. I couldnt stand playing DaoC anymore because WoW combat was just so much more fun and better looking. Now that guild wars is out, the fighting is LITERALLY 5 times better than WoW. You really have to appreciate the beautiful sword fighting and weapon animation. The spells look great as well but i wouldn't say it makes other MMO's spells look frail.
I'm definetly a melee guy, i would like to see unarmed combat for monks though in expansions. It's safe to say that this is a game that will last much longer than most WoW fanboys think. The way WoW is heading so far i doubt it would last as long as some other MMO's out there. I'm happy there is a MMO now that makes your hero look, fight, and feel like a powerful hero early on.
I played in all the bwe's and 20 has always been the level cap. They set that in stone pretty much from the inception of the game it seems, and it has ticked off a lot of those leet monkeys who want to play 20 hours a day so they can whomp on the average citizens. No big loss, cept for the monkey leets... heh.... because as you stated the amount of skills to choose from makes it easy to vary your gaming experience daily if ya want. Over 100-150 skills PER PROFESSION! I as an air elementalist, can respec to fire and use a fire magic loadout if it suits a particular mission. And respec back later. Gives you so much latitude in what you can do. The instanced combat zones don't really lend themselves to roleplaying much, but as is the case in all mmorpg's, it's up to the players to rp or not...... I always try to do and react to things in game as I think my toon would, part of the fun, no?
Guild Wars is not a MMO
methinks I spotted a spotted troll!
It is Massive...It is Multiplayer...and it is Online
I agree fully also with the previous posters. Given a few new races and classes as well as new areas in upcoming expansions will bring it up to par with Wow in content. It already blows it away with gameplay and visually imo. Future is very bright for GW
GW is da best da rockiest .
No really, I've tried EQ2, WoW, played both for a few monthes. now I play GW and don't even think about EQ2 or WoW anymore. I think about DDO though . You know why? GW has similarities with D&D style. You have your own instance, trasures, etc. DDO is more fun though if talking about those D&D blocks. But really, not mentioning quite a few morons in GW - game is the most freshest refreshment in the world of MMORPGs. It's not MMROPG as someone said, it's MMMMOCG - Massively Multiplayer Online Competitive Game. When you through RP part you compete to receive guild hall, and other decent stuff through battles on Hall Of Heros. GUILD WARS is a game for people organized in Guilds. If you are alone and done with RP part then either join a guild or wait for expansion packs. Otherwise not much fun left for you.
Unless you are kind of player that likes to have best weapons, runes, armor and stuff possible, It will give you another couple monthes of killing monsters to get rarest weapons and runes. GW does ROCK no mateer what anyone else is saying.
I SAY it rocks, it means it rocks. Everybody, listen to me only, . J/K.
Guild Wars is most certainly a MMO, for all of the reasons stated. What are your reasons against it?
Ok, for gods sakes, IT'S A CORPG, NOT AN MMORPG, IT SAYS IT ON THE SITE.
Please don't feed the trolls....... he just said that to tick people off and start a flame war.
It's a game, you play it with other people online.... ok??
