Im watching this movie, and the whole time I'm thinking why?
I'm watching hot girls, in hot costumes, with guns and swords, and battle mechs. And they are fighting giant samurai, and steam punk mechanized soldiers, dragons, orcs, and there are explosions, trains, planes, bombs, and other assorted special effects and mayhem.
So why? Why am I SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO bored?
Because there's no story, that's why.
There's absolutely no reason for me to care about these women, or the giant robots, or the explosions.
And after about an hour of explosions, and bullets, and super duper matrix style flying and fist fighting, my eyes are about to bleed.

The cinematography was good. Special effects were good. Acting? A little iffy. But the story. It was nonexistent ,and made little sense at best. All that eye candy and CGI just couldn't keep me entertained with an utter lack of a coherent story.

lol my girlfriend said roughly the same thing. a better, or actual plot would've made the movie a million times better. i went in with the idea that it was just mindless action so i wasn't too dissapointed, plus i was drunk so lack of good storytelling didn't phase me

Sucker Punch is a masterpiece of subversion. The culture is not being subverted, however; it's the expectations of the audience. Every time the protagonist is about to "dance", the film shifts into "fanboy fetishism"...but what doesn't it do? We never get to see the dance! Our desire to see this woman perform for amusement is never revealed! We ache in tension no matter how good the CGI robot-samurai-helicopter-bomb-gun trickery is, because the "audience" of the film's characters see what we aren't allowed to see! Even the dance number under the credits is hidden! And don't tell me the popped cork of the champagne bottle signifies nothing. It is black lyrical cinematic comedy! It is George Kuchar lambasting the Art House Cinema crowd for its secret desire for titillation. It is Laura Mulvey's work on "the Gaze" combined with weird sexual metaphors about female sexuality. none of that makes it any less boring.
I didnt really find it boring but the story was kind of buried.

Kind of a mixture of 2 fantasy worlds used to escape reality -the girls fantasy world(the action sequences) used to escape the reality of the actual sanitarium and more directly escaping the fantasy world of the intern Blue or whatever his name was(that of the dance part) where he is playing out some sort of kingpin but in reality is just a lowly intern doing some awful things to those under his power unbeknownst to those actually in charge.
Yeah, its kinda boring even though their hot, it's just like Dead or Alive with no story ^^
Great effects and soundtrack but that was about it. I had to keep telling my wife what was going on most of the movie and at times I was just guessing lol. The TnA was good don't get me wrong....
