SV forgot to pay the website bill?

cirsyndiccirsyndic Member UncommonPosts: 261

It seems like their website has been taken down and the domain parked. Usually this happens when you don't or forget to pay the hosting provider. Very unprofessional in any case... Or a sign of the financial difficulties many of us predicted after the latest statements and reports that came out of SV?

The site is back up, at least the web server. But all the content is gone. /Forums doesn't work either.

Looks like we might have had an angry ISP, or webmaster, or something less malicious and more stupid.

    Either way... interesting stuff.

^ This it happens now and again that is why the lookup showed another host.

BTW could of been worse like cartoon network site leading to hardcore porn.

Presuming you aren't nitpicking Axeion for using "sites not their" instead of "sites not there"....

DOMENESHOP AS apparently refers to http://www.domeneshop.no/ a norwegian domain registry service. It may wll be that  DOMENESHOP AS is the registrar and Starvault is the registrant (i,e. Starvault registered the domain through Domeneshop)

    http://www.domeneshop.no/whois.cgi

Ahh did a look up on their whois and that appears to be exactly the case.

Ya, not completely sure but we heard rumors that a virus that had taken down at least 1 million websites recently hit them. Though could be anything but it was resolved in a couple of hours.

Are you sure it wasn't WoW? I could have sworn... that I felt a disturbance in the Force, when those 12 million players clicked 'Connect'. :(

What's odd is that there is no explanation on their website.  Normally when a site (including login servers) goes down for an extended period of time there would be some message posted explaining what happened,  You know like:

We apologize for the outage last night.  It was caused by...

Very strange to now even acknowledge it, unless I missed it somewhere.

So now that it's proven it wasn't their fault or some lack of funding you still have to find something to fault them for in relation?

It was proven?  All I know is that the lights got turned on after a few hours.  If you know more than that feel free to share!

It was a patch day, the whole infrastructure went down for a couple of hours, not much to see here.

When servers go down for patches, normally there's an "under maintenace", "sorry - there was a technical problem..." or some other customized screen that  still comes up.  The sight may just not load at all. The website does NOT revert back to the host during the outage. I can't think of any website I frequent (game-oriented or not) that has reverted back to the host during an outage.

I see no mention of it in the Patch Notes section of the forums : http://www.mortalonline.com/forums/patch-notes/

Nor do I see any announcement in the announcement section: http://www.mortalonline.com/forums/community-developer-announcements/

Nor do I see any mention of this "patch" on the dev tracker: http://www.mortalarena.com/devtracker.php

So please feel free to share your source that this was "patch day"!

It is in how you enter the address if you enter Mortalonline.com you get this. http://mortalonline.com

I did not see a cover up at all, and all I see is people making a mountain out a mole hill.

Sadly you are quite wrong about the first part at least.   For an extended period a few days ago http://www.mortalonline.com brought you to this page: image

The main website, the forums and the login server were down.

The issue has since been resolved but SV never did explain what the problem was, which has probably extended this discussion longer than necessary.  It's over, and unless it happens again we will probably never know the cause.

So, why did not the person who took the screen shot have the address bar at the top?  Hmm..
