Maybe some of you who have been following the game can help me. I'm getting close to buying it and checking it out, but one thing I am confused about is how/why people are capping in only a few days. Even if you take out the hardcore players, casual players seem to be capping in about a month.
I ve played all the Betas, and fast levelling is one of the reason why I didn't buy this game (boredom is the main one)
Indeed this is the game with the fastst levelling I ever played.
If you are an hardcore player you will cap in few weeks (2-3) if you are casual in about 1 month
That's why I predicted that this game will shed 70% of subscribers after 2-3 months.
There is not enough content to keep players subscribed until the next expansion.
If you dont want to pay 50 dollars for one month of "fun" then dont buy this game. If you played WoW, you already played rift. If you played warhammer, you already played Rift.
The best thing about this game is that it works, and by that i mean you dont crash a lot and there are very few bugs.
Kinda sad that the deciding factor for whether a game is good or not is how it works. Not whether its fun, or something new to play.
This is just a grind fest.
Its like that old commercial from the 80s about cocaine. I do coke, so i can work more, so i can make more money, so i can buy more coke, so i can work more so i can make more money, so i can buy more coke........
There is no point to the gear grind than to grind some more gear. If pve is your thing thats fine.
Imo there should be something that is actually just fun to do, whether you get a reward or not. You should be grinding that gear so you can advance to an activity like PvP, not to grind more gear.
Not only is gear grinding extremely boring for most people with above average intelligence, it ruins an important community building component of mmos, and that is a player economy which is run by crafters.
What is the point of crafting in a gear based game, when nothing you will ever make is going to be as good as the high end raid gear?
Expert dungeons are almost exactly the same as the regular difficulty dungeons, the only difference is the addition of a boss at the end.
Rifts get very repetative, as though they have different graphics, they all play exaclty the same.
Dont keep giving money to these companies that just rip off WoW like its the only game model in exsistance. I bought this game, because my friends talked me into it, and i wish i hadnt given them my money for more of the same crap. Gotta stop paying them, when they stop making money making clones, they will stop making them.
I disliked WoW and WAR, but I love Rift, so your blanket statements fall very short of the truth for many people.
I've also done over 1000 rifts/invasions, and I am not nearly bored with them. In fact I seek them out reguylarly. Will even hit a previous zone to do a rift/invasions if my current zone is short on them.
My god has horns.... nah, I don't think he is real either.

/snip (the usual crazy talk about Rift)

Not that you actually want a discussion about the game but I guess I'll bite on a couple of things.
I play Rift probably 3 hours a day since headstart and I'm level 39. I do rifts, events, the occasional instance, crafting/resourcing and a lot of exploring/artifact hunting. It is certainly possible to level to 50 in 2 weeks but that is not the case for most of my guild.
Crafting is very useful from early game all the way into end game raiding. The gear you craft is better than the green world drop and quest rewards of the same level. The blue/purple crafting recipes are better than the blue/purple world drops and quest rewards .. yes even including end game. Many recipes only drop in raid/expert content and require special components.
Rifts are not all the same except for graphics. This one made me laugh actually. There is a large variety of different mechanics involved in all of the rifts particularly when you change to a new zone and tier of rift. The current world event gave us even more rift mechanics including one involving cleansing werewolves that some people still can't seem to figure out almost a week in lol.
I don't need to say it but its obvious you aren't actually playing the game. However that is nothing new since about 90% of the qq'ing about this game consists of wildly inaccurate hyperbole. I should be used to it by now.
p.s. To the OP, this is a great game for casual players and no you won't level to 50 in 2 weeks. Those are hardcore players which can reach level cap quickly in any game .. it only took people 1 week to hit 50 on the new EQ1 progression server heh.

Buy Crysis 2, it will entertain you for longer.
I guess you havn't played WoW or DCUO.
Currently Playing: Rift + Starcraft II + Gears Of War 3 Beta

By the way I don't even consider DCU a MMORPG so it doesn't count for me
I gotta say, while I love the game, it is sorta dissapointing how fast it is to level and just play the game. I'm almost in it a month and creeping up on the level cap. Heck I'm on a pvp server I've only been ganked 4 times, it's too easy. It is fun, but there isn't a whole lot of challenge either. I'm a firm believer that the ride is more fun than getting to the max level, but it seems like mmo designers would rather give people the instant gratification.

The funny thing is, the game seems to be developed for a slower progression. Each zone (tier) has its own token/faction merchands. But people will outlevel those items while trying to get them or while just doing the quests. And there is no way to stop gaining xp. Not even dying, like in Vanguard, stops xp gain.
So it seems the fast progression was a rather late decission.
