Hi all, and sorry for making yet another 'LF Game' thread, but I'm wondering if what I'm looking for exists anywhere.
I've been playing Perfect World since PWI started in 2008, I love the character progression, farming mats for equipment and crafting. I love being able to meet nice people to hang out with, and go and do quests and kill stuff together and help each other. I love the beautiful character customization and that the world is generally 'cute' instead of all blood+guts+gloomy, yet still the characters look and feel realistic and believable.
What I am hating more and more is that isn't what the game is about anymore, its isn't all about earning and farming equipment by e.g. killing bosses anymore, its about just earning game coins. We don't log on and go have fun killing stuff, we log on and set up a shop buying+selling junk to try to make money - if I wanted to do that I'd be trading on the stock market instead of trying to play an MMO.
But what *really* bugs me is that the people who get really ahead and obtain the best gear are (besides the cash shoppers) those who spend their time ripping off other players (e.g. putting message on shop that you are paying one price, but then inentionally miss off zero and hope nobody notices) or abuse game glitches to make millions.
So I'm wondering, is there an MMO out there where character and equipment progression is -not money based- (whether real money or game coins)? Where for example, you farm mats for yourself or squad and *cannot* sell them to other players? Because it seems to me, as soon as you can sell mats or equipment to other players, the game immediately plunges into who is willing to pay more, who can get more money so that they can pay more, who can rip each other off and scam people more, etc.
Thanks very much =D

I almost hate to say it, but honestly, a good bit of what you're looking for can be found in World of Warcraft.
As a former player, I can say that WoW will give you the ability to raid, farm mats etc, to either purchase gear from an NPC (that cannot be sold) or farm for mats etc. to craft the gear yourself.
You farm dungeons/bosses for particular items, said items are bound to just your character and cannot be sold etc, and said items go towards the "purchase" of gear from various vendors.
This is in addition to the gear you can get straight from the dungeon and said bosses themselves.
If you haven't tried WoW, give it a shot. They have a free trial.
True mages don't die. They strategically miscalculate.
