Mid-April “Free Agent” Update Delivers New Content and Unlimited Play For Free

ATLANTA - April 7, 2011 — Hi-Rez Studios today announced that “Global Agenda: Free Agent”, the latest update to the Shooter MMO, will enable free-to-play access to all of the game’s current playable content and levels with no purchase required.

The version 1.4 Free Agent update, expected to go live in mid-April, will support free play across all character classes through level 50.  This update also introduces a new Dome Defense Raid as high-level player content, a CTF- style Mercenary PvP game-mode with pilotable robots, revised skill-trees across all four character classes, and other changes and content.

For an optional one-time purchase of $19.99 USD (£13.99 GBP,€15.99 EUR), players may upgrade to Elite Agent status, which will accelerate the rate of earning character levels, gear, and currency and also grant access to premium features such as the login priority, auction house and in-game mail. All players that have previously purchased Global Agenda will be automatically upgraded to Elite Agent status.

“Global Agenda has never required a monthly subscription to play and, for a while now, we have offered a generous free trial for the game.” said Todd Harris, Hi-Rez Studios COO.  “Our experience with the limited free trial has demonstrated to us the great demand among free-to-play gamers for a AAA-quality Shooter MMO like Global Agenda. We believe this latest change will further broaden the game’s popularity and appeal.”

“With this change, we allow players to experience all of the game’s current content and levels for free. We’ve done this in a way that ensures that free players do not have to spend real money to compete on a level playing field with those who do, while still rewarding those loyal players and fans that have purchased the game or otherwise supported the game.”

Effective immediately, until the Free Agent expansion launches:

  • Global Agenda is available for $19.99 (£13.99 GBP, €15.99 EUR)

  • Upon release of the Free Agent expansion, any player who has purchased Global Agenda will automatically be upgraded to Elite Agent status

Global Agenda: Free Agent FAQ

Q: What is Global Agenda: Free Agent

Global Agenda: Free Agent is a sci-fi, third-person class-based shooter with jetpacks! You assume the role of an elite special agent, acquire futuristic gear and weaponry, and battle enemy agents and robots for survival, technology and territory. With the release of Global Agenda: Free Agent, the entire game is now Free-to-Play.

Read the official press release here.

Q: What is Free-to-Play?

Simply, anyone can now play Global Agenda: Free Agent through all 50 Levels at no cost. You don’t have to buy the game. You don’t have to pay a monthly subscription. You don’t have to spend money within the game. Simply register an account, download the game, and play as long as you want - progressing multiple classes and characters without any level restriction on free players.

In the Free-to-Play model, you can optionally purchase services, items and content to customize your gameplay experience. Purchasable items are currently available from the Global Agenda Store website and in the future will be available within the game itself.

Q: Will I need a credit card to play?

No. A credit card, or other valid payment method, is only needed if you wish to purchase an optional item from the Global Agenda Store.

Q: What is the Store?

The Global Agenda Store is a web-based shop from which you can purchase a set of gameplay enhancers and services. In the future we will introduce additional purchasable items as well as the ability to purchase from vendors within game itself.

The current store can be accessed here.

Q: What is for sale in the Store?

The store will sell:

  • Elite Agent package

  • Boosters

  • Account Services such as name changes

Additional store items will be added in the future.

Q: What is the Elite Agent package?

The Elite Agent package bundles a large set of premium gameplay enhancers for a single, one-time purchase. Elite Agents progress their characters more quickly through the game by earning double the XP, tokens, and credits. Elite Agents earn an Elite Loot drop at the end of each mission. And Elite Agents have access to premium features such as in-game mail, auction house, priority access to servers, creation of player Agencies and the ability to choose your game mode preference when queuing for Mercenary PvP missions. You can purchase Elite Agent lifetime status for a one-time payment of $19.99 USD (£13.99 GBP, €15.99 EUR). No subscription required.

Q: What is a Booster?

Boosters allow you to further accelerate your progress thru the game. A Booster will give you an additional Boost Loot drop at each end of mission, double the rate at which you earn XP, tokens, and credits, and automatically reward you with 2,000 extra tokens a day. Boosters are limited in time and are available in 10-day, 30-day, and 90-day increments.

Q: What is the difference between a Free Agent and Elite Agent?

Free Agents are those Global Agenda players who have chosen to play the game without purchasing the Elite package. Elite Agents are those who’ve elected to buy the Elite Agent package. The full set of differences between the two player statuses is described in the Features Matrix.

Q: Can Boosters be purchased by Free Agents and Elite Agents?

Yes. Boosters will further accelerate your progression, earned currency, and loot whether you are a Free Agent or Elite Agent.

Q: Can individual items be purchased in the Global Agenda Store for real money?

Not right now. But we plan to add purchasable items in the very near future. Many of these items will be cosmetic (examples: dyes, suits, flair) while others will affect gameplay (examples: weapons, armor). Items will be purchasable by both Free Agents and Elite Agents. Being a skill-based game, we will not introduce purchasable items that unbalance the gameplay. You will never be able to purchase victory using real money. But you will be able to obtain balanced items more quickly thru direct purchase if you wish, and if you have already earned the appropriate character level in-game.

Q: I already purchased Global Agenda? How does my experience change?

If you previously purchased Global Agenda, we very much appreciate your support and we will automatically upgrade you to Elite Agent status. You will not be charged any additional fee and your experience within the game remains basically unchanged. Your characters progress, and earn currency and loot at the same rate they did before. You continue to have access to the same content, items, and missions as before. And purchasing a Booster remains an option as it was before.

Q: I have a previous Global Agenda account but have not been active. Do I still have access to the game and my characters?

Yes. Your account is still enabled and your characters are still available within Global Agenda: Free Agent. You can come back at any time to experience the game and see the new content and features. If you were a Trial player, you now have Free Agent status. You can continue to level your characters with no payment required and now without a level limit on free play. If you were a former purchaser of Global Agenda you will be automatically upgraded to Elite Agent status. No additional payment is required.

PS: Here you have 50% coupons code, can be used to buy GA and boosts packs ( after full f2p there will be only 30% codes )

    first

i will be playing this game definitely

    edit

I like how they are using "get your stuff faster" as a way to make money instead of "get bogus stuff NAO"

this game could easily be ruined if they introduced special gear that free players cant have, ruined for me at least.

Wasn't GA F2P for some time now? Only difference now is that its F2P/Buy2P instead of F2P/Sub ??

It's always been B2P, like Guild Wars, AFAIK.

HiRez just keeps impressing mye.  They must be making a ton of $$$ off the game if they're able to drop the box price like that.

Now that the pop is sure to pick up, I just may come back around.. And stay a while..

I can already hear the bitching from the free players when they get in-game and find they have limited/no access to the auction house, chat channels and mail.

    Hi-Rez need to wake up.

This game has so much potential if they add more open world zones like the desert area.

The combat is fun as hell (I love the jetpacks)

But queing up for the missions just kill this game

If I like the gameplay, then I'll pay for the Elite Free Agent package. $20 is nothing.

This is great news indeed. I started a trial account a few weeks ago and am really enjoying the game. The combat is so fun, and it's a lovely break from the typical fantasy MMO experience.

I think Direct2Drive is currently selling Global Agenda for $10, so perhaps I should purchase it now so I can have Elite Status when it goes live.

Global Agenda is totally worth it and now its going F2P!

  • TheCrow2kTheCrow2k Member Posts: 953

Its a smart move to combat the falling number of players. Like all PvP Centric MMO games once you start losing players and the poulation gets too low you start losing more players because they ahve no one to fight against.

    This.

Not to mention they'll have competition coming up with other shooter MMO's coming out. But being F2P/B2P isn't going to be enough. They need more open zone content. The Sonora (sp?) Desert doesn't last too long. One or two more open zones would be awesome.

Isn't HiRez making Tribes Universe as well?

Yes they do. Whats most importanat they have made a video yesterday, and what we can see..there will be no "power up" items for real money shop ever!!! You will be able to buy weapons at that shop, same weapons as dropped from the mission and with same lvl restriction. So nothing to worry about.

Im playing GA since CB and still love it, mostly raids / pve coz waiting for pvp merc is....

PS: First post edited with more info.

Good luck for new players that will be able to join new raid....is quite hard to complete with bonus with random players ^^

Watch how fast the hacks get out of control in this game when it goes free. people wont care if they get banned its free!

I already know a bunch of people who hack in this game as it is, i cant even imagine how bad its going to get......

  • SetsunSetsun Member UncommonPosts: 286

This game doesnt have half of the hackers APB used to have. I bought the game long time ago and i do SUPPORT F2P. If they  tame the aimbotters everything will be fine IF they dont ill quit, simple.

The 50% off coupons for buying GA now will be used for buying the Elite Agent benefits instead. But they'll also be dropped to only 30% off so if you buy GA now you'll automatically be upgraded when the patch hits and save money.

Similarly, the trial still gives out loot + XP, credits and tokens at the Elite Agent rate before the patch halves them, so you can get a head start on your Free Agent before the level cap is removed.

All coupons 50% off and only valid on the GA store (though you can play through Steam using the current trial):

There is much more then just aim botting going on trust me. there are plenty of other hacks in this game that are very hard to detect that lots of people use.

Hmm, I didn't really look at this game when it came out I am more of a boring old fantasy MMO person. But this looks like an excellent game, can't wait to try it out. If it is worth paying for I will, if not its F2P!

HR is working on Tribes Universe for that.

They posted a reason as to why GA would not have more of that.  Basically in their development of the desert and what not they came to the conclusion that massive zones that had many people some thing like 100 vs 100 would not be performant.

They had already worked on some optimizations they thought would work out, but making it all work would be a redesign of the engine.  So they bought a license for the Tribes IP and are working on that now and expect to be in Alpha soon.

I beleive the Tribes came is meant to be a 3 faction game similar to planetside in many ways.

I don't know that Tribes universe will have PvE questing though.   I think they may not be doing that.
