Other cool things in Archeage...

Mounted combat.  Very cool, special skills while on a horse to fight with.  You also raise your horse and he gains skills as he levels.  Very impressive.

Monorails(the little kid in me who loves trains just loves this)

Carriages.  Very nice.  You can hop in and out to hunt while traveling on them, sweet.

Labor Power, houses you can relax in or add to a village/town etc, ships you can build with friends and use in naval combat.

Is this game for real?  It almost sounds to good to be true.  All I know is, if it delivers on all of these and makes the game fun to play while having all of these awesome features....well every other MMO ever, can kiss my tush.  I really hope it does deliver and makes the genre reel back in surprise and maybe start focusing on adding this type of depth to every game here on out.

http://www.youtube.com/user/archeage#p/u

Just watched this video and holy crap....my jaw is still hanging open.  Few things I noticed in that 10 minute video were:

Knocking down a wall in the dungeon as a party then climbing over the rubble to continue.

Using a torch on the wall to burn down an wall of something flammable, not sure what it was, also climbing ladders/ropes etc.  Many interactive world objects it appears.

Player got on a horse, ran over to a mob, turned the horse around in order to deliver a back kick, from the horse, to hit the mob.  Awesome.

Placing a house in the town, practically anywhere and then having the party help build it.

Placing a trebuchet/catapult on the docks and then getting into it to fire on ships offshore.  All player controlled.

Building a ship with the party at the docks, it even rolled out just like a new ship would and had confetti and cheering when it was finished.

Lastly, getting on the ship in open water and walking over to cannons on the deck and sitting in them and firing at the shore.  All things that World of Warcraft didn't even have at launch(even though the RTS game was all about siege weapons and doing this type of thing).  I am literally astounded at how good this game looks.

The sounds were nice, the music was nice, and the lighting of the environment looked REAL, as opposed to games like Lineage 2 or Aion where the light is nice but it doesn't look realistic.  Think of the lighting in the Shire in LOTRO and ArcheAge matches that realistic light quality.

    It's real. :)

It looks to be the real deal Jim. They have had 3 closed betas I think, more on the way and are very lose with the information they let out so we can actually see what is going on, they're not hiding behind NDAs like some certain other companies to lure in box sales.

The scope and ambition of what this game is aiming for looks amazing so far, but I have thought that about other games before experiencing the reality. We shall see.

At the very least I want/ need AA to prove that games with a heavy themepark element don't have to be small, narrow, derivative, and uninspired.

We shall see, but fingers crossed :)

I've heard talk about this game being F2P.

If that's true, then this and GW2 are going to be my two go-to MMORPGs, and it'll be REALLY hard for any sub-based game to get me to even give a second look at it.

Yes, I realize there are pretty much downright evil F2P models, but they don't HAVE to be that way, there's plenty of ways to design a pricing structure, and I'd be perfectly happy with paying 15 dollars a month in the cash shop because of the amazing ability for me to =keep on playing the game= even if I stopped paying, something sub games don't give me.

Can you link some of this talk Meow?

Not challenging you or anything, just interested in who said it and where it's come from :)

Yeah I only have one reservation. Nothing against AA but I have been let down in the past. So even if this game promises pretty much everything I've ever wanted in a game I have to sit back and say "wait a sec" don't get your hopes up again they might get crushed. That said if they are able to bring all of this to the table and there doesn't end up being any glaring issues with gameplay or anything major this could be my new home for a few years once it's released. Thing is devs learned from the abismal performance of games last year that you need a finished product for release. Rift seemed to deliver on it's promises so that's a good trend, just sucks that nothing they promised interested me lol.

Almost everything the OP said has been done in closed beta so yeah it real, heh. The only time i ever see the f2p thing come up is when people find out this is a korean mmo. Jake Song has not said what this games payment model will be so until then, its all just speculation.

  • FoomerangFoomerang Member UncommonPosts: 5,628

oh and yeah, once this game comes out, every other mmo will cease to exist for me.

Have they even announced that they were going to port the game to the West?  I read some article where they said they were thinking about it, but no decision had been made.

Actually, archeage is being developed with a western target audience in mind. Jake song talks about it on the main website in one of the faqs i believe.
  • RajCajRajCaj Member UncommonPosts: 704

I remember reading that...but that AA was having some trouble finding a publisher in the West.

  • PsythosPsythos Member UncommonPosts: 124

Im really hoping this game turns out like they want it to. It looks WAY to good to be true.

  • RelytDnegelRelytDnegel Member UncommonPosts: 261

They better find a publisher in the west or it would be quite a waste of time as they have targeted this at a Western audience. For me to play they need to find a publisher in Australia... Apparently that isn't an easy thing for many games.

Updated my original post as I watched some more vids on the ArcheAge youtube channel.  I am literally shocked at how good this game looks and seems to play.  Move over SWTOR, you are now 3rd on my waiting list behind ArcheAge and GW2.

Also, anyone know how to make my links clickable?  I always seem to forget the html code we need to use.

After searching around a lot, I found a fairly recent interview (December 2010) where the answer to the pricing question was 'We're looking into what pricing system we want to use'.

If it's a well designed F2P system, this game will definitely be up there with GW2 as my top games to play.

I've bought so many P2P games, and I can't play any of them anymore unless I'm willing to pump out the few hundred a month to renew all my subs. :(  That gets frustrating after a while, since every once in a blue moon, I'm like 'Hey, I feel like playing X'

Hell, I don't even care if its P2P or FTP, although it seems to be feature laden enough to warrant a sub, I just know I'll be playing it.  I mean, forget games like Tera, THIS is the kind of innovation/evolution in MMORPGs I want to see.  Sure Tera has nice combat changes, but I play MMO's for exploring fantasy/scifi worlds and living in them in a sense.  If I want fast combat, I can go play any number of console games or FPSs that cater to that crowd.

Anyway, I digress.  I just wish this game would get more coverage, it NEEDS to come out here in the west, if anything just to break the western mindset about eastern games, oh and so I can play it to my heart's content, hehe.

Love this paragraph from the game synopsis on AAportal.net

"The size of the game world exceeds the size of the world of WoW including all expansions. The interactivity of the world in Archeage is very high. There is a day-night cycle. One should take a torch with him in case he gets caught in a dark place during the night. The developers have promised to implement season cycles. In one of his interviews, Jake Song asked to imagine a lake, created after someone casted a meteor to hit the ground in a battle a week ago. It is possible, that things like this await us in Archeage."

O.O sounds awesome.  I like BIG worlds to explore and if I drop a meteor in an area and it the game world fills the crater with water creating a lake/pond...holy crap...has this even been done before?  To me this DOES sound like Next-Gen features.

That last part about the meteor and lake seems... well, suspicious.

Is meteor a legenendary spell people can only cast once in their lifetime?  Because if it's a normal combat spell, the whole planet is going to look like swiss cheese after a couple months. ;)

No I made a post about group channeled spells, possibly is going to be a spell which can be cast once per week ( was hoping group spells would have CD's of maybe a few hours max).

Meteor is Magic's normal spell, the effects in CBT1: AoE damage & 6 seconds tun.

If you had to aim your spells, I guess this game would have it all :)

Will definitely keep an eye out for this one.

Watch some of the videos, combat is definitely tab-targetting type.  I wish it was more like Darkfall, but I can accept tab-target combat if everything else is even half as good as it seems right now.o

There are plenty of games out there that focus on First Person View, twitch based combat.  Manual targeting (especially for ranged classes) janks up the movement controls and the fluidity of game play.  While combat is part of ArcheAge (as it is in any FFA sandbox MMO), other aspects of the game shouldn't suffer because targeting in comat isn't "real" enough.
