Does anyone know when the re-release they have been talking about will actually happen? I haven't heard anything about this in ages. I want to give this game another chance, but I have been hoping to wait until the big patch happens. Being that this patch was originally dubbed 'Darkfall 2010', I am surprised that now in 2011, it still isn't out...

Its called Darkfall Arena....
This is Darkfall the game that was supposedly ready for release in 2007, 2008 and then 2009 - did you really think it would have this "epic patch" ready in the year they stated?
If you look at the details of the patch you will find that there is not a great deal different from the original. Still no meaningful race wars, no sandbox elements - you can't build a house anywhere or a clan city - they are still in dev placed areas.
There is still no regional banking or regional resources.
What Darkfall does good is it brings to the table decent MMO combat and really amazing NPC AI. Apart from that it is not a sandbox MMO and is still a clan vs clan game rather than an immersive world with racial wars and territory control from ORc taking human lands and the other way round.
Such a crying shame !!!
Darkfall has no decent combat ......
I'm more excited for the re-designed controls/UI and the graphical updates they've been promising. Also I heard they might be re-designing the world map somewhat to make it a little smaller. Plus, if they actually start agressively advertising the game, maybe they will actually get a decent population going. All of these things I think could really help the game in terms of getting me (and others) interested in it again...
I hope they can pull at least some of these things off in the near future.
It comes with the next expansion, codename arena.
They are considering a russian server as well as a f2p asian server. Don't remember where I read it.
Id have to agree, Darkfalls combat is pretty close to awful.
Darkfall has already the best combat in an MMORPG and with forced ambient shadows and ambient environmental sounds it will be even more dificult for another game to come close to it.

Darkfall is one of the few mmos that actually has decent combat. This genre is known for a few things, combat isn't one of them.
"Mr. Rothstein, your people never will understand... the way it works out here. You're all just our guests. But you act like you're at home. Let me tell you something, partner. You ain't home. But that's where we're gonna send you if it harelips the governor." - Pat Webb
{mod edit} Darkfall does have the best combat out of the current MMO's. If you're bad at aiming your own moves, it doesn't make the combat bad.
The relaunch comes along with release of the upcoming expansion 'Darkfall Arena' the current ETA we have is sometime in early Q2 (which is very close). Doubts say we'll be waiting a few more months however AV has yet to change their ETA as no exact date was ever given.
I'll try gather together everything going into this remake of the game in a new thread, will take time though.
In comparison to what exactly?

I just want to say, I suck at DF combat, but it is clearly the most fun MMO-combat I have tried!
Other than that, I too wish for more sandbox elements, Im in this game for the pve not the pvp...
Wow,this is the first time i've heard someone is in Darkfall because of PvE. I respect that, but at current state Darkfall PvE is designed for only one purpose.Grinding your character stats/skills/spells so you can be better in PvP.
That is not entirely true, granted 90% of the players look upon pve that way. But it is à question of mindset, myself I enjoy the character progression and the pve itself. The pvp bring some spice to the world and is not at all as uncomfortable as I had imagined it to be. I like the crafting and gathering as well, but yes, the game lacks a lot of sand for the box.
It is important to stress though that this is not fantasy quake. Hopefully with more sand there will come more clans with a broader view of the game. But for fellow pve:ers, ffa full loot is nothing to be afraid or even annoyed about. I felt more aggravated when killed in wow than I do in DF!
Edit: total playtime 3-4 months, so you can put my post in perspective, for better or worse
Edit 2: To make this wall of text readable, Iphones obviously don't think readability is important...
I wish more people had your attitude towards mmos in general.
It is indeed all about mindset, I'm not sure why some people have a hang up about the pve in DF, it tends to be only the people who think they have to blitz through everything as fast as possible to pvp. But then they would have to do the same in any other mmo as well, or are they trying to say that the pve in other games it great fun?
In the majority of games, the majority of the time, pve is total and utter shite. DF is certainly missing a bit of added 'world' content but at least the pve is a bit more dynamic amd the combat that much more fluid (imo) than it is in your bog standard mmo. That coupled with the added excitement/danger of being in an ffa sandbox and I really can't understand why people would be suprised that some would find the pve/crafting more of a draw than simply blitzing a grind to kill nubs.
"Come and have a look at what you could have won."
PVE in other games to me is something to just blitz through as fast as possible until I have the toughest PVP character that I was aiming for. It consists of going from floating exclamation point to the floating question mark for the most part. Going down deep in to a dungeon is cool for the first hour . ... but then I start to get very sick of whatever role I am playing whether it be healer or tank or CC or DPS so I will try and put on music or have a fun party who chats about funny stuff in vent. Without music and with boring people I would go crazy from boredom because PVE in most MMORPGs are generally boring.
Logging in once in awhile to do some PVE quest is much more enjoyable but when it comes to me and what I am playing for, I want to get to the max level and the gear that I want ASAP so that PVE is over and done with and I can just PVP the rest of the time. If it is an open world with twink than I like to have several in different tiers so that if one is getting camped out of the game than I can simply just log onto another. I usually try and do this right when the game comes out. Usually even the PVP becomes boring after a couple months but I will typically sub to a game for at least 6 months to get a feel whether or not its for me if it has a lot of people and PVP. Its pretty rare that a game can keep me subbed for years on end.
In other PVP games I usually kill without mercy and grief players at their spawn and camp their corpses until I have bled them dry. Darkfall is different though. There is a lot more depth and meaning in a weird way that other FFA PVP games lack (besides EVE, which does this well too). There is more to it than corpse camping or hunting down people you do not like and preventing them from PVE. In Darkfall there is endgame PVE that require a group and cooperation and cities/hamlets can be built or conquored during a constant political struggle. The PVP in Darkfall is not just a gankfest like what I was expecting.
I tried to play this game solo and take on the world or whatever but it sure limits the amount of fun stuff available to do. The community is much tighter than most games as well so people tend to remember me by my actions or what I was like in vent or chat . ... or even the forums. I didn't care in most other games what people thought and wanted to be the most hated and hunted player (which I accomplished a few times . .. but I mean I wasn't a total jackass and would hook up someone that totally lost and was cool about it). In Darkfall creating relationships is a hell of a lot more important for having funner PVP and overall gameplay. This game has made me not only want to be more social when I am typically a solo-PK type with one or two buds in other games and I find myself helping noobs and negotiating like I care, etc.
This is my favorite PVE found in any MMORPG by far. It reminds me of Elder Scroll series but the combat is a lot funner because it isnt as easy and the game is a lot more edge of the seat feel. Darkfall is the first MMORPG that I actually look forward to going out to PVE regardless of who I am with and I do not need to listen to music while I play.
Darkfall re-release may not happen any time soon. It depends on what problems arise and how the code lays. It seems like because the world is so big and without instances that it would be more difficult to make any change to the game. It must be so much easier to work on instanced games. I do not think a lot of people realize that.
How long ago did you stop playing, Anubisan?
