I've gotten tired of WoW, and been turned off it a bit due to the changes in arena not letting 2v2 give you arena rating. I do still like WoW on the whole but I liked the idea of getting top gear with only having to play with one other person. In saying this I still enjoyed doing end game dungeons, just not as much as I did arena.
What I look for in an MMORPG is
Looks - I like 'western' style looking games as apposed to the cute anime styled games. ( If the game is quite good I can overlook this )
PvP - This is a big factor, its what draws me to playing computer games, being able to kill some other dudes character.
Dungeons - I dont want to get to end game and find every tom dick and harry with high level dungeon gear because content is easy, I like a challenge.
Crafting - I love crafting, prefer a game where crafting is rewarding and not just something you can do for the heck of it.
P2P or F2P - I dont care if I have to pay to play the game. Although in cases of F2P im not a fan where you can buy your way through the game eg. I dont want to grind a large amount of time for something then find someone has just bought it with money.
I may be asking to much lol. I did try RIFT and was not a big fan for a few reasons, some pvp some pve. I was scared off from buying DC Universe online after reading their forums and seeing so many complaints for what ever reason be it lack of content, bugs etc. plus I dont think there is crafting in that game?. I've watched several Videos of EVE and not really attracted to it. I am looking forward to Star Wars: The Old Republic but am sick of waiting for a release date, let alone the actual release of the game.
Any pointers will be greatly appreciated. Not having an mmo to play is driving me insane.

Sorry to say, but you're probably not going to find any other MMO out on the market right now that fits your criteria any better than Rift does.
To make it simple... there's no MMORPG for you, if you're interested in good arena-PvP.
They're all the same as WoW, only worse.
For crafting/ecinomy and massive PvP EvE Online is still the best MMO outthere, but for someone not liking to fly spaceships it's out of the question unfortunately.
Darkfall and Mortal Online are all about PvP, but they lack all the rest of content, that makes a MMORPG and they don't have safe-areas or consequences for going rampant.
Good luck searching, and waiting for SWTOR will be wasted time, as it's allmost like WoW just with another paintjob and more storytelling, so I wouldn't hold my breath there aswell.
EDIT: Maybe The Secret World will be the game you're looking for, but that's to be seen.
I would say the most like wow is Rift.
You could also try:
Runes of Magic
LOTRO
EQ2
Vanguard
DDO
AOC
Warhammer Online
In my opinion.... Rift is the new WoW. (you can take that in a bad way or a good way depending upon what you like)
Some of the above may or may not have pvp.
I had a feeling this may be the case. With RIFT I spose what turns me off the most is the balance of it's pvp, granted I only played the beta but I have watched several videos on youtube of the pvp with a mage class one shotting others and melee classes doing the same dmg at range as they do in melee. With the large array of class/role abilities with the 3 talent tree setup the game has I can't see balance coming anytime soon, but I may be wrong.
WoW is really the only MMORPG I have played properly. I spose after playing the king of the hill, it will be hard to be pleased by others.
Thanks for the feedback
You could try sandbox games.. You dont lose anything by testing darkfall or maybe eve trial... Warhammer Onlines pve content aint good imo.. Age of Conan pvp sucks imo and pve is discusting grindfest now.. Lotro has anymazing game world but pvp is something you must try your self ... I have dc universe but im not active sub now, but it is nice game imo... There is fast pvp and game is very fast based... DDO is f2p like lotro you could try it its pretty unique... Hmm... Everquest 2 extended is awesome too but there is no pvp realm in extended so it lacks in pvp imo ( i like world pvp). Everquest 2 "live" you should try its not expensive at leveling its pretty empty but if you find a guild then u might fin someone who wants to roll char with you=)..
Imo you should try Darkfall just becouse it has much to do and maybe Everquest 2 "live"..
Lotro has abyssmal PVP. If PVP is your thing don't play lotro for it.
Rift. It has enough similarities but is thankfully NOT WoW.
For the first time in several years, I'm having a blast in an MMO again.
Take some time to look into Lineage 2, then let me know what you think. Read the forums here.
I've recently started playing LoTRO and WAR. I'm having a blast in LoTRO following the story and just hanging out enjoying the world. WAR......idk, so far it has failed to grab me, but I'm still poking around in it. I'm going to try Rift this weekend for the free event, but I doubt I'll stick around (predisposition against non-established IPs, /shrug).
PvP is not my thing, so I can't give advice there.
You could also look at some of the F2P stuff like Alganon or Forsaken World, you might find something there, but don't hold your breath.
Conan might be the thing you are looking for.
I want a mmorpg where people have gone through misery, have gone through school stuff and actually have had sex even. -sagil
Lineage 2 could not be much farther from "similar to WoW"...
There really aren't any good pvp games out there. WoW's PvP blew hard, but arena's were kind of fun for a bit.
RIFT isn't gonna have what you're lookin for. Can't think of any other game that has homogenized classes and arena's. Some games have some of what you want, but lack in other areas.
RIFT dungeons and what not are ok.
Only honorable mention for 1v1 or small group pvp these days is Darkfall, unforunately.
Don't think there are any games worth mentioning that are balanced for small scale pvp.
I honestly haven't seen a game in recent years where crafting wasn't nearly pointless.(other than EVE) I actually heard good things about RIFTS crafting, but haven't bothered to try it.
Honestly, has there actually been a game with decent crafting since WoW came out?
Rift is the best game similar to WoW, in my opinion it's better.
An mmo with quality two man team arena pvp and with good crafting? Well you've got me stumped OP.
"Come and have a look at what you could have won."
Rift is a pretty good pve game, but he's looking more for Arena and 1v1/2v2/ style PVP. RIFT doesn't really have that, and the class combo's in RIFT are different enough that there will always be a class that will Pwn another one.
Maybe wait for GW2, that might fit your style a little better.
RIFT. You´ll love it.
Wait for SW:TOR just my thoughts... go play outside, spring has sprung and summer is around the corner.
they are working on balancing some class issues in RIFT, they already hit the warrior domination specs some, and there will be continual balance. The best thing about RIFT is that there seems to be 1 dominating spec for pvp at a time during each patch phase, and you can always change to that spec, or modify one to include more survivatbility.
The Inbalance is what makes RIFT fun to me, honestly, it gives me something out of game to do with spec research, testing and theorycrafting.
It literally takes 2 weeks tops to get to 50, so you could esentially have 4 50's in 2 months, and play around with tons of different combos.
Runes of Magic plays and even looks like WoW. The races/classes are a little bit different, and it has a bit of that F2P "Pay to Win" mentality, but you couldn't get any more closer to WoW without copyright infringement, and if you don't pay for the cash shop item enhancements, it's quite challenging. It has some PVP options (notably the guild sieges), but I played on a PVE server here when I checked it out, so I can't comment on it much.
RIFT plays very similarly, but has a few unique differences and doesn't feel quite so cartoony. This is probably your best PVP option
Aion may be an option too, once you get up around L40, the game is basically one big free for all PvP battleground, and still has a pretty good player base. It is a bit more Eastern themed though.
Check out Forsaken World as well, it's laid out pretty closely, although it's a bit more Eastern in it's flair.
Someone mentioned LOTRO as a possibility as well. It's not quite as close to WOW as some of these others (especially in the PVP arena), but it's definitely not an endgame race, has very good quests and dungeons (in the form of Epic quests, laid out like chapters in a book, that tell a very good storyline) and it has some fun crafting with it. I haven't played this since it went F2P though, so I don't know how much of it has changed.
Might also check out Guild Wars, I hear after you've spent some time unlocking quests and items the PVP in it is very good.
And if you really only want PVP, you can't get more PVP Sandbox than Eve. The videos really don't do it justice, it's something you need to sink a week or two into (and be willing to overcome it's extremely steep learning curve). This is probably the premier PVP game out there right now, and it focuses on keeping the PVP well done rather than introducing artificial content: the players are the content.
Rift is a fail dunno why you people bump it over WoW. If you want hardcore pvp go Lineage 2 or Aion. NCSoft rules at pvp.
