Interested in playing this game because I love crafting. I've played WURM and crafting wise it's pretty good but graphics....errr. I've been told that A take in the Desert, Istaria, FE, EVE and Ryzom are good crafting games. I want to hear about Xsyon but others are welcome to disclose info about other games.
I would love to find a MMO like EVE but land based (but to interested in staying in a ship-forever). Love the ideas of altering the terrain, farming, harvesting, chopping down trees, planting crops, building homes, wells, ships, cars, trains and plains..hehe. Breeding, making wep of all sorts and armor. You know the works.
The Secret World with WURM, EVE, FE crafting would rock.

im also on the fence with this game..
sounds like what im looking for but hearing alot of bugs still in it and combat is horrible..
would be nice if someone can update me?
Same here, it's getting late(r) and anyway I always stop at thinking why they chose such a weird sounding name? More info.
Ryzom is F2P and worth a try. Really nice game world. (See "ryzom" I can understand as it's referring to the symbiotic relationship that almost all plants have with a fungus that grows ultra fine filiaments as part of it's root system to absorb nutrients due to the many times smaller diameter that the fungus can achieve and increase in uptake area; as well as connecting roots of other plants altogether...)

Errrr. Just got off the chat on the Xsyon site and folks playing the game a saying alot of the listed features are not available like cooking.......................Bettom line...Fail.
Guess I'm stuck with EVE or FE ;o(
Perpetuum has been described by many people as Eve but ground-based. However ships are replaced with robots so if you were hoping for a human avatar you'll be disappointed.
Always read the small print.
but the stuff already in place in xsyon... how is it?
i understand in a sandbox like that they would continually add more content. the question is how is the feel and mechanics of what is in there now?
Before you purchase Xsyon, read up on what PRELUDE is about and what that means. Look at interviews and read the FAQ. Try and understand what's being said in there.
Don't expect the features list to be all implemented/turned on or nearly all completed until after prelude.
There's a big webpage with a lot of information, don't look at one part of it.
If you are a solo player, you'll have a ton of stuff to keep you occupied for a while. There are a few things that will turn people off, the first is the combat. Really there's no reason for it to be even on at the moment. The second is that due to the dynamic monster AI, the monsters run away from highly populated areas, therefore you don't see mobs until a server restart.
Positives are that the dev team, although small, love to keep the community informed quite a bit and there's been constant improvement even if we're only 1 day from the first month done. Combat is a priority right now after the stability issues are finished.
I'd wait a month or two before trying it out if you don't have patience.
After saying this, I still like the game. I've still got a bunch to do.
Ok, so cooking is not yet available and that automatically makes it FAIL. You make me laugh. If you want a sandbox game, this is the one to try.
As someone who stopped playing recently, take the following with a grain of salt...
Xsyon is the very definition of a broken and empty sandbox. Sure crafing is expansive but there is very little reason to craft. Item decay is not on (at least as of last week when I stopped playing). Crafted armor and weapons do not make any difference in combat (which is horrible btw) and the starter pre-order weapons are wayyyyyy over-powered. There are no NPCs to fight and the wild animals that are supposed to be in game for people to hunt and PvE are broken. The AI is broken so the animals head towards the "green mist" where they are not accesible to the players.
I say, wait a few months and see if it improves. Just my 2 cents...

Pretty much this.
Xsyon was the final nail in the coffin for my "indie" sandbox gaming. The crafting in the game is great - I loved it! I loved it until I realized there was no point in crafting anything. You end up tucking a lot of stats and skills away for "later use" because there just isn't anything to do with them, the problem is, no one can say how much later, "later" is. A week? A month? A year? Never?
I like the fact that the devs keep the community up to date, but in most cases, it's too little, too late. The game laucnhed... geez... I forgot how many times. None went smoothly and each time when it looked like the game was working well, they launched it or added a feature and it all imploded on itself.
They're also treading on dangerous ground by letting hte community decide what the game will take shape as. It's supposed to expand as the months go by and more "green mist" areas are supposed to open up. But not even the Devs know exactly hwo its going to progress... and it's pretty scary to think the ones making the game don't have a plan for it!
You can look at the amount of flip-flopping that's already taken place on several decisions and just imagine what would happen as the game advnaced more and there were more issues to track.
Lots of complaints on the forums about lack of content. I never played myself but that thread is what dissuaded me completely from playing.
I wouldnt count this game out just yet. It seems with a little tweaking in a few patches, the game can turn itself around. Kinda in the way eve was
I am playing Xsyon, but I can tell you that everything here said about the lack of features and all the stuff that are "works in progress" is spot on. Currently not worth the price tag for an indie game that is... 25% there maybe. Also the population has taken a serious hit recently.

I agree with what you have written and wish I had not bothered buying and have just cancelled my subs due to the lack of stuff to do. Give it another year or so, but I'm not prepared to sub their wages when there is jack all to do in this game, it's very unbalanced and you cannot even kill mobs from the off.

$40 for the amount of time I spent in the game, still a better purchase than Black Ops for me....
