Wait? how is this good? It was orginally supposed to be a monthly subscription, but they messed up on alot of things so the players were given "extended free time". They announced last year that Global agenda was going to be free forever and that they would only charge for expansions. I thought it was great because i had global agenda already.
Now they announce that they are going to start charging for the content that was free for players who paid for the game already? thats silly.
Players that have already bought GA shouldn't notice a difference as they automatically become Elite Agents. Essentially, this switch to F2P renames trial players to Free Agents and increases their access from level 15 to all content apart from a few features. Blocking the AH and mail slows down crafting mods/upgrades for weapons by quite a lot, and with no free end of mission loot more rarities of weapons will now be purchaseable. Combined with having the rates they earn XP, credits and tokens halved, it'll take a lot longer to level and buy everything.

I will point out that i said "Supposed" to have a subscription. It was of course their original intention to charge players to play Global agenda at a fixed monthly rate. The charges of course never went through because with their lack of content, not many would pay a monthly fee when they could just pick up another shooter and be happy with that.
True, HiRez changed their minds before including a sub. However, they replaced it with boosters, which work essentially the same in terms of a monthly fee, and they've been quite successful with them.
This is definately a fun game... especially if youve been playing MMOs for over a decade and just want to shoot stuff. 100% worth paying for the box when it was released. 100% worth playing now.
Are they really in that big of a trouble? Or do they get so much more sales this way?
A little bit of both really. Not making enough as P2P, so they some how need to bring in more money or drop the game all together. And based on the massive influx of new cash flow for games that have recently gone F2P, D&D Online and LotR Online for example, I'm sure Hi-Rez and many other companies have been taking note, they simply went F2P to try and make it all better.
I believe it's simply a matter of time before all MMOs that are out there at the moment, besides the mega monster World of Warcraft, will go into some form of F2P soon enough. Even Ragnarok Online, game has been out forever, just went F2P...
I have been playing Global Agenda for the last year since it has came out. I can say its the best money I have ever spent on a game. at the time I played like 35 dollars for it. Not one game has kept my attention this long other than wow and that game milked me every month.
I'm not a fanboi or anthing but if you like team-based shooters that the main idea is to complete objectives (Capture the payload over 3 points, Breach style maps where you defend against attacks or drive the enemy back to their dropship and lol @ them afterwards) then you will love this game. The Graphics are top notch, city chat is full of trolls and thats for waiting between matchs and its different everytime you play it.
Not everyone's bag sure and it didn't hold my attention for too long but I still love jumping in to play every so often.
I'm guessing they more than recouped the development costs and are now wringing it for every last penny by going F2P, which is good for the players all round (pop. boost) and good for Hi-Rez as they can reinvest some of the cash into GA, invest some in Tribes and likely give a decent bonus to themselves too.

Of all the herp derp moments.. If I'd known this was done by Hi-Rez, I would have been in it since day one. Oh well, better late (and at a significant discount) than never.
"The Global Agenda dev team is working on a bunch of new content themed around the Recursive Colony faction that is now becoming aware of the human threat and attacking Dome City. We are excited about delivering another open zone with a quest-line and repeatable quests, new devices, new PvE Special Ops content and new PvP content."
So they've said for the last year and still haven't seen even so much as a "concept art".
And we didn't see any screenshots of dome defense until like last month, and supposedly it's coming out this month (and already playable on their test server of course).
It made me laugh outloud every time I read someone say "the f2p model will generate more revenue". That is such a funny line. How do you "generate revenue" if you are a f2p game? And if you are a f2p game, why are you generating revenue? We consumers sure must look pretty stupid at times don't you think?
I have played a number of these so-called "AAA" and so-called "f2p" games and none of them are actually free to play. And if they weren't below AAA status before going f2p they slowy become less then AAA.
When your business model is failing, anything is better than nothing.
MMO rule #1-- No game goes free to play unless they can possibly help it. People will debate this ad nausum but when it comes down to it, ask yourself an easy question: Which is better? Guranteed income or 'maybe you'll stop in and buy something' income? If you answered anything but guaranteed income, you fail Economics 101.
I would have agreed to that 2 weeks ago, but last week I was visiting an old friend who (and his GF too) is now in a company that developes browser games.
The bottom line is: they have a shitty SWD culture, so should work pretty inefficiently, they are making basically cookie cutter games with always almost the same primitive mechanics you see everywhere these days, and of course the games are F2P but with a cash shop. And they make a crapload of money! I don't understand what kind of halfbrains are pouring money into that, he doesn't understand it either, but it happens all over! And the company is not of the garage type but has around 600 employees. So even if my common sense still tells me "regular income is better" this rule does not seem to be applicable in this industry anymore. Still puzzles me though.

since you obviously have no idea what you're talking about with GA you should know it was never P2P, originally they was going to (before launch) then later decided to not charge a sub (still before launch). it was a B2P game like Guild Wars , cept that GA offered a trial that capped at 15. nothing is really going to change, they're just hoping to get more people to play. some people are too cheap for even a B2P game, now you'll be able to play it all for free (no more level cap) it will just be slower leveling. i bought it at launch and defffintly got my money's worth for it, and play it off and on when i feel the urge for some good pvp. (bored with tab target pvp games) and its scifi wich there isn't many of at all.
honestly it will be a good influx of people, i play off times in all MMOs i play so it sux getting groups, more the marrier i say!
I really loved this game until i hit like level.. 30 i think? WHenever it is i was put with the more "Elite players"
I couldn't get any kills and just kept dying over and over again.
I could just start new characters all the time, but I'd rather not
kept trying to do better, but I've always sucked at shooters :<
Think i started playing a little before the release of the first pve zone and quit not to long after, amazing game, but i sucked to much Still, 15 bucks on steam for 66 hours of gameplay? More then most other games for that price have given me
Well, I wouldn't knock it until I tried it. But this is a good step for gaming companies. If it is an excellent game, I'm sure there will be plenty of opportunity to find ways to make revenue. Example, ads that pay them to post their marketing on their site or while a game loads. Also, for a small fee a player can get access to a special level that will allow more upgrades, hidden stuff, maybe dedicated server access and such. But yes, it's a good step in the right the direction for gaming.
I was in the closed beta for this game. To say it failed then would be an understatement. The PvE content is based on instanced missions. The same goes for the PvP. There is no free roam world to speak of at all. The staff was barely tolerant of bug reports that came in from people there to actually test the game. It acted as more of a word of mouth advertising campaign.
After a solid month of testing and reports, I quietly packed my bags and uninstalled the client.

There's an exception to every rule, but Global Agenda isn't it.
Which also brings us to the fact that this was a plesant surprise? Really? This shouldn't have come to as a surprise to anybody. If it did come out of left field, you really shouldn't be reporting on this sort of thing to begin with.
MMO Rule #1 is wrong, and has been for a while. If WoW is the only example of being successful in the MMO market they you really need to play more games. In truth, WoW is really the exeption to the rule that games with a Subscription plan can succeed and grow as most games that have one actually peek and then shrink substantially over time and a lot of them just outright fail, mainly because by charging a sub, they are directly putting themselves in competition with games like WoW and people who already play those games have to decide whether or not a new game with a sub is worth their money (most of the time it isn't).
In most of the world, for around a decade, MMO's have been working on a Free 2 Play model of some sort or another. Many of these games are from Asia, specifically Korea and for a long time have been nothing more than WoW clones with cutesy anime graphics. Now that the technology is evolving to the point where it will be possible to make a game that has real time action combat on a massive scale without instancing you are seeing a lot more games that are Free-2-Play that are not WoW clones. As with all games, some are good and some fail, but now that we are finally seeing a more deverse group of F2P MMOs being localized and brought over to this market, American and European developers are taking note.
Not only are you seeing a broader scope in genre from localized games from Europe and Asia but you are seeing games being developed by American companies that are designed to be Free 2 Play from the get go or at least be subscription free, much like the original Guild Wars, it's highly anticipated sequel Guild Wars 2, Global Agenda and the upcoming Fire Fall.
If you are going to talk shit about a game then you should make sure that the reasons for you not liking are primarily because you suck at it. GA has a very steep difficulty curve for both PVE and PVP and can be very frustrating even for seasoned players. Also, if you are used to playing games like WoW and coming over to a twitch based shooter like GA then you are going to have a handycap. My point is that no game should be dismissed and that you should try to look at them as objectively as possible.

It hasn't "failed".
And I wasn't in the closed beta but I can tell you that there is now an open world area with a decent amount of quests (albeit only one large desert area).

LOL! You are SO Wrong! Its not a WOW type of game. But is very interesting, well done, with a good PvP, lots of fun and FREE!!!

Please don't post your discount codes in this thread. There is a thread over in the GA forum for those codes.

I will be trying this. If its good, I`ll be buying it.
I'm so gonna try this game now.... if my pc is capable of doing it (which I doubt =( )
