That depends on how much you are going to play it, and how you are going to play it. If you focus on filling the HoM then you might be able to get 30 out of 50 points, this will get you all of the items as well as some titles. But in my opinion the items which are truly worth effort are gained from the first 10-15 points.
I takes quite some time however. On the other hand it is a very well made game (just don't expect an mmo) which does not cost a lot of money for the amount of gameplay you get in return (something like 30 bucks for the three campaigns and 10 bucks for eye of the north).
This just came to my mind: the HoM rewards are actually meant for GW1 veterans, as they refer to various items/locations/events in the original game. I can imagine that I and many other GW1 vets will experience quite some nostalgic moments when seeing the HoM-rewards finally in game.
I started my foray into Guildwars late last year, I play very casually and solo and currently have 19 points. I'm really dissapointed I didn't try the game sooner, it's been loads of fun. I've spoken with a few other people who are new to GW and most seem a little overwhelmed in the beggining. Best advice I can offer is to bring a little patience and just relax and play the game, you will get points, but not straightaway.
I started playing GW casually back in October and I am at 20 points and have a plan to get the last 10.
I remember when I first started the whole HoM thing was a bit daunting and didn't really see myself being able to get more than the first 5 points (the armor sets) and decided I would be happy with just that. Well, the points eventually started to flow and I figure that I will easily be able to get the last 10 before the GW2 launches.
On the upside, GW has been a blast and I wish I had started playing it earlier.
If you are looking for skins then it is worth it. Otherwise it is not since weapons are scaled(so i hear). If you want the black widow spider or the black moa it is worth it. If you want the gun that looks like a fish it is worth it. The rewards are like novelty items since they wont give you an advantage over someone who doesnt have their HoM filled.

That's how I see it. Do you want different skins that won't be that unique as a hell of a lot of people will be running around with them anyways. Probably can't sell them either, so no profit there. But if you loved the first game then maximum respect to Anet for having some carry over. Personally I will be running around with all the new stuff.
Yes, Guildwars is a great game and worth spending a few bucks on. I have all the expansions and I have played for about 6 months now. I'll probably play it until GW2 comes out. It's a great game and a good time waster
While I generally agree with the "Play it because you like it stance", I didn't start back at GW because of it's many merits and fun staples... I started back BECAUSE of HoM.
In doing the HoM stuff, I started having fun - in starting to have fun, I started getting HoM points. I am up to 21 from scratch as of August last year. I still have yet to do a bulk of easy content too, so if you casually invest 6 months into the game - you will probably get 30+ and have fun

Is the gear from the hall of monuments attainable rather easily?
I hope I can seek some insight from those of you who did. Thanks in advance!
i wouldnt do that just for some gears from hall of monuments.....
Arena Net said on their website that you will need Eye of the North expansion in order for that to work.... so you would have to buy GW1 + all the expansions including the last one.... just to get a silly gear for a different game (GW2)
i have GW 1 + factions + nightfall ( the combo deal) and i wont be able to get that gear because i dont have Eye of North (and i wont buy it just for that reason)
i see it as a waste of money.... i reserved GW2 already and taht will be my game of choice untill a sub based game worth of my time comes out to pair it with GW2

I'd say that the first 10 or so are easy to get, afterwards it gets a bit trickier. You definitely need to have all campaigns and Eye of the North to even be eligible for the first 3, which you get automatically. After that's it's mostly a matter of playing the game, more or less.
I'm up to 13/50 after about a month of playing. Here is what I did, in no particular order. Keep in mind that you need to have all of the tapestries in Eye of the North so you need to do most of the storyline quests in the expansion.
Character: assassin/ranger
- tamed a tiger pet and got him to level 20
- tamed the black moa
- upgraded the armor of the sunspear heroes and MOX (armor already upgraded)
- finished the Factions campaign for the title.
- got 5 companions
- got Kurzick elite armor (expensive)
That's basically it so far. It's probably not the most streamlined way of unlocking HoM items but I'm mostly just playing the game and doing the unlocks on the side when I can.
As far as whether or not it's worth it. It probably isn't unless you're a fan of GW. The items that you'll get from HoM rewards will not have better stats, they'll just look unique. I definitely wouldn't buy all of the campaigns just to do the unlocks but if you already own the games, then you might as well get at least some of them. If anything you'll learn a bit of the game's lore and have an idea about what's going on in GW2.

Maxing it will take quite a while, but 30/50 is doable. Just focus on finishing the campaigns, getting all heroes and armors and you should be fine.
GW1 is a great game and is worth buying for that reason alone :P. If you happen to unluck stuff for GW2 that would just be a bonus!
HoM rewards are supposed to be like ingame items from a collector's edition. They won't give you advantages, it's just eye candy.

This was helpful (Link)
The HoM items are not just 'beginner stuff' as the stats on these items scale so they can be used at all levels.

A few points are really easy to get, many takes some work.
Guildwars is a fun game, but you really should play it to have a good time, any unlocked items should be a second priority.
I don't think it is worth all the work just for unlocking some skins. If you like the game it is really worth it and you will have a great time.
My advice: Try out the free trial. If you like it buy it, if not it is not worth it.
This is the best advice in my opinion. Play Guild Wars because you enjoy playing it, not because of Guild Wars 2.

If they will scale then it is even better, since usually this kind of item is something useful only at the early levels.

I hate these kinds of questions. There's no real answer to it, because everyone has different values and belief.
Is it worth it to torture yourself for months just to get some HoM stuff? NO, if you don't like it don't play it.
but I will probably be gravitating toward the mass of people that look like me if any events should pop up suddenly.
