Someone must have found these code/updates in the junk file (from when SoE actually supported content updates) and released it as new and something they just did.
Oh, and I can see nips. Love them slave Twi'leks

I completely forgot that Image Designer was a profession in SWG...it seems really strange now to have a profession completely devoted to adjusting the stats and physical appearnce of avatars.
Still one of the best MMO out there.
Yeah yeah dumbed down, yada yada, etc, still enjoyable.
I still believe that Entertainer is one of the most unique and enjoyable "Professions" in any MMORPG.
Its also one of those last glimpses into the original SWG Developer's visions for a Star Wars Galaxies that was attempting to let people be whatever they wanted in the theme.
I still don't understand why they don't restore this game to what it was originally. Make it free to play and let a small team of Devs work on it.
The NGE 2.0 is about to launch (SW:TOR), let the old SWG sandbox come back.
Agreed. The only let down is the combat system.
Yea, yea. I know. It's the tired old insult, but the combat system just doesnt fit the game and is still buggy after 5 + years.
-Bugs still persistant from the launch of SWG.
-New bugs introduced into the game each patch that are never fixed, or "paved over" with newer content or mechanics (why fix, when you can replace?).
-Everyone is jedi, and you cannot pick up bounties on player Jedi anymore specifically. You can however pick up bounties for pvpers who got bounties placed on them for killing people (lol?).
-Game is broke, blah blah blah
I imagine anything with a decent "StarWars" skin will be playable, not enjoyable . Very similar to how SWTOR is going to go .

Care to explain why that is the case?

Entertainer was a great social game play based class and is a really nice addition to the often so overweighted combat gameplay.
Sure, some people dont like to have their casual game play time consumed by anything that is not purely combat related but it was back that days a great experience and i really miss it to sit in the cantina, feel the star wars feeling, have friends around to socialze while star wars themes come out of the speaker and skilled entertainers delight the audience, heal combat exhaustion with their acting.
Sadly SWTOR will not capture this mechanic for a better in their game.

Sure :
- Tons of content. Quests, heroics, pvp, etc. You got one huge main storyline to get your char from level 0 to 90. Then you have multiple "themeparks" (very long questlines with interesting rewards). Then you have all the secondary quests that will give you more about the lore/background and ofc items. THEN you have the random missions generated by terminals and some NPCs. And if you're bored there are the achievements that will give you unique items and titles.
- Graphics aren't that bad for a very old game (even Kotor 1 and 2 look worst).
- There are so many resources to collect with so many different properties/qualities... resources gathering is a game of its own. You can set up harvesters/extractors that will work for you ... but you'll have to make sure they got enough power ... and their quality (because those are crafted by other players) will affect the extracting results. Resources spawn in a random fashion so players are always hunting for them.
- Crafting is quite complex. Resources qualities and properties + your skills will affect the outcome of your crafts. You gotta craft different components with different properties before assembling your desired items. You can cook (buffs), be a tailorer (load of clothes, and you can define the colors), make weapons and armors (high quality weapons/armors are tricky to make), make spaceships (and all the components that goes in them), structures (houses, camps, decorations), and even droids.
- Then you can set up your own shop with the housing system. Place vendors or simply rely on the auction system. Keep in mind that there are maintenance costs to pay.
- Bio engineering system. "Craft" your own pet. Gather DNA, various enzymes, and lots of chemicals components. Refine all this, mix it... sounds simple but that will take days/weeks and millions of credits. Then you'll have to train your pet from level 1 to 90. Make sure to feed him properly and teach some good combat techniques. Of course if you want to combat with a pet, you'll have to sacrifice some skills from your own profession. Or you can make a mount. Who the hell never wanted to ride a Rancor ? Oh and I almost forgot a mutation system that creates unique and very rare creatures ... and most of them haven't been discovered yet I believe.
- Space stuff. From combat to space mining, there again loads of content. Quests, fit your spaceship with lots of different equipment to suit your combat tastes, you can even invite your friends on some bigger spaceships. They can walk around your ship while you do some piloting (and yeah, they can see everything move around them). They can help you repair the damaged systems, or even use the turrets to help you fight. + there are some special places you can only access thanks to spaceflight.
- Galactic Civil War. Not really my cup of tea tbh, but you can join the rebels or the empires and trully fight for your faction. You can help your faction gain control of cities and even planets... that will grant you some bonuses, and ofc unique rewards and stuffs.
- Bounty hunting. My most favorite part of the game. Bounty Hunters have access to special quests that let them hunt other players anywhere in the galaxy.
- Jedi/Sith have their very own lightsaber crafting system that also rely on resources qualities/properties, their skills and ofc known lightsaber schematic. Sure, the game loses a lot of credibility when armies of jedis are roaming around. But well... many players like them and I think they are fun to fight.
- Officers, spies, commandos, medis, smugglers, entertainers... each have their very own game style.
- Many planets to explore ... and by "explore", I do really mean it. You can go wherever you want, there are places to discover, quests to be found, etc.
- Players ran cities. Most big guilds have their own city (and those ain't instanced). Based on the population the city can gain different structures (cloning center, shuttleport, etc).
I think I've outlined the most important parts of the game... now for some random stuffs.
- There's the Trading Card Game that you can play with your friends, or against the AI.
- You have a rare loot system that will give you rare/unique items if you're lucky enough.
- You can drive vehicles (from a speederbike to an AT ST) or mount creatures.
- You can fish ... yes that's actually rewarding and useful.
- You can go on a treausre hunt (treasure maps are dropped by creatures... or found)
- You can decorate your house in any way you want (rotate, move, all items are droppable).
- You can even decorate a spaceship ... if you like having your home in space.
- You can create quests to share with people ... or even create events with the storyteller system that lets you "decorate" the ingame world during a limited time... with props and npcs.
- etc etc ... way too much stuff to do in this game.
There, happy ? x)
Shit, I feel like some public relation dude now.
Oh and don't get me wrong ... there is plenty of stuff that SOE did wrong.
Dumbing down the game being onf the them... but everyone already know about that.
But you also have winged ewoks with crossbows of love during the Valentine day event (love festival). And you can win angel wings and other trully star warsy items.
The "loot cards" in the Trading Card Game ... it's like a bad item shop.
You can have a winged ewok companion/pet ... that is bad.
Combat is borked (Line of sight bug in PvP... plenty of ways to exploit game mechanics)
etc etc. Game ain't perfect, far from it.
That's why I only said "one of the best", not "the best".
I think the big problem is their servers more then bugs. They really need to improve server/client performance.
Everyone is Jedi? Ummm when exactly did you play and see this because more people are NOT Jedi then Jedi. The professions are ALL played. This statement "Everyone is Jedi" could not be more wrong.
As to TOR. TOR will be nothing like SWG. NO REAL SPACE side for one. No real galactic civil war where you fight anywhere in the open world. No player cities which can be setup any way players wish. No player housing. No advanced crafting that holds a candle to SWG.
TOR is WoW with a Star Wars skin.
And Post NGE wasnt an attempt at the same?
most sad thing ever
I have to wonder if people saying that about TOR have played it at all. Or paid attention.
While Im looking forward to SW:TOR, I have to agree with Evile for the most part. The only reason why I will check out TOR is because its made by Bioware and its about Star Wars. I hope to find the same immersion again as in Kotor. Just that this time Ill be able to play with my friends.
But looking at the gamemechanics, its a lot like WoW or LOTRO. Even the devs basically admitted that they were going for that kind of game. I dont see anything wrong with that however. If you dont see the big comparisons from game mechanics perspective, then you maybe havent played really different MMO's.
And about the housing, well..TOR will definately not have SWG kind of housing. Itll be an instanced ship. So dont get your hopes up about this part. Same goes for other noncombat things like crafting. Itll be sidestuff just like in games as WoW and LOTRO. This doesnt have to be bad, its just that the main focus will be on PVE adventure like with other themepark MMO's(I dont have an opinion about PVP yet).
Definately started out that way. But most of the sandbox elements have been reintroduced (except skillsystem ). There isnt any other MMO out there at this moment which is as feature rich as SWG. The main bad point about SWG is its ground combatsystem. Which is simply crap compared to newer MMO's. But without rewriting the game engine, they will not be able to solve this.
Currently Playing: World of Warcraft
The small loyal faithful that play SWG will either play both SWG and SW:TOR or return to SWG after trying SW:TOR. SWG will be around as long as the loyalist are or until SOE finally pulls the plug. SW:TOR will not affect SWG one bit.
With the exception of having the same IP they are totally different games from what I've seen.
Thanks for the reply, I was going to go through a point by point rebuttal but there is really no need.
The games combat mechanics are absolutely woeful.
The servers cannot handle more than a few people in the same area at once in combat.
The pve is a joke, Imperial themepark or yet another EK (nice timeline there btw lol), ooh running an incredibly easy mini raid for the 900th time sure makes you realise just how good the pve in other games is.
The economy is shot and regardless of how 'deep and complex' the crafting system is, the only real repeat custom is through power-ups and food as nothing else decays.
The GCW system is really just one big pve base bust, alt farm. In terms of a territory control/RvR system I can safely say it is the worst I have ever encountered in any mmo...ever.
There may be a range of profs, but for pvp groups only a handful have any real point (officers/medics/Dire snare prof). Each of which has it's own cookie cutter template and itemization.
Ultimately the game could have really good pve content and and awesome system in place for the GCW, but the fact it's combat mechanics are dump and the servers are rubbish mean that it's a no go from the start.
I'll give it kudos for trying to be many things at the same time (it's not really a sandbox now, just a mishmash of badly thought out and badly executed mechanics), but aside from space, it does them all very, very badly.
It's great that some people still enjoy the game, but to say it's one of the best mmo's out there...not a chance in hell.
"Come and have a look at what you could have won."
AAAAAH!!! walls of text!!!! what SWG has that will be out TOR is the space I love the space and the crafting in SWG
Actually the major thing that destroyed SWG when NGE came out was the demise of item decay. This basically ruined the economy as the crafting system became almost useless. I can't imagine many play the entertainer role any more, last time I looked the cantinas were empty of them most of the time.
Another big problem with NGE was that they put even buggier code on top of buggy code and most of these bugs are still there. From what I understand the SWG team is no so small that even these minor patches are a major challenge. Bug fixing is just not allowed unless it causes major issues.
Trying to portray this games as still great seems to me a travesty. IMO everything that made it great is gone.
Damn I miss the housing and crafting system in this game. Being able to place a house in the open world and create player cities was ingenious. The fact you can sell items through vendors in your house, driving people into your home, was brilliant. Why no other MMO developer has stolen this concept is beyond me.
The combat system with it's Benny Hill animations just killed the fun.
