Mass Effect's Executive Producer Casey Hudson says that an MMO based on the property "makes sense" but that Bioware hasn't figured out a way to do that yet. In one of those "there's nothing here to see so just keep moving" type statements, Hudson says that there are no definitive plans for a Mass Effect MMO. But, if there were, what would YOU think?
“We haven’t yet come up with a way to do that, so we don’t have anything to announce at this time. But, obviously, multiplayer is something we want to do more of in the future as a company.”
Asked about the possibility of an MMO, Hudson admitted he feels the franchise is a good match.
“A lot of people say that they want to see an MMO, I think that kind of makes sense for this universe,” he said.

Dammit was just about to post that!
anyways, would love to see a ME mmo, love the games and the universe!
All I have to say is, hell to the yeah baby! Bring it on Bioware!
Mass Effect is a great MMO IP. If TOR is successful and BioWare decides MMOs = good!, we might just see a post ME3 MMO (because who knows how awesome and universe-changing the final game in the trilogy will be? Can't make an MMO until after ME3).
I'd rather they made a ME MMO than a Dragon Age one, though both IPs could work.
Will there be more gameplay than cutscenes? And No over the shoulder TPS? Then I'll "try" it. I'm probably part of a very large minority though, who didn't find any of the ME games very fun.
I've wanted to see a mass effect mmo ever since finishing the first game. I agree with bioware in saying that if ever there were a game that just made sense to have an mmo, ME is the one.
Retired: EVE, SWG, STO, EQ2, Ryzom, AO, LotRO, FFXI
Currently Awaiting: SWTOR, TSW, ArcheAge
I'm all for ME MMO if they make it so you can actully fly your ship around the galaxy in realtime.
That would be cool but I dont see it happening any time soon. *sad face*
Its coming out this year under the name SW:TOR.
In fact, TOR will just be an even more dumbed down version of ME:2 where you don't actually have to aim to hit. There will be more skills and the talent tree will be redesigned to give slower bonuses. Combat will change a bit too to match WoW's.
The core of the gameplay stays.
Ship sequences (which in ME2 already have the same sound effects as Star Wars ships in the movie).

"living world"... gotta admit, some of the adverts and news in ME2 are hilarious. I like the one where Galaxy of Fantasy reaches 11 billion players.
Whats the big difference really. No more Shepard. Lightsabers. Different era and story line. Better soundtrack (i hope).
2015 at the earliest, but more realistically, 2017. I called this way back. In fact, I suspect that Bioware specifically created the DA and ME franchises to turn them into MMOS. IMO, the mature setting of these games, combined with story elements + whatever mistakes they fix from TOR will make these games unbelievable.
With the current technology we have, it would be cool if your ME1/2 Achievements could give small bonuses to your MEO character when it comes out.

My 2c's...
Give it a couple of years before they start working on it, let's see how SW:TOR goes. This way they can learn from their mistakes. Also waiting will have the added bennifet of letting technology improve so they can do a ton more stuff.
Time is all I ask for, I know there is going to be mistakes made in TOr, even if it's awesome, pvp comes to mind here. This is the 1st time BioWare does anything PvP and from the get go, everyone and their mothers will have some sort of root
I'm a big fan of Star Wars, but I'm a bigger fan of Mass Effect and when it is made into an mmo, I want it to rule the world!
I Reject your Reality and Substitute it with My Own!
Something tells me that Bioware, of all people, would be smart enough to know that the world doesn't need more sword and sorcery mmos. Granted, the universe does have a markedly different feel, what with the lore and feel of the races (dickishness of humans might not pan over well), but the fact that it is rooted in high fantasy could turn a lot of people off.
I think the Mass Effect universe is very well suited for an MMO and I would love to play it. I think a lot could be done with the conflicts between the various races and the politics of the galaxy post-reapers. I just hope that if a Mass Effect MMO is made, it will retain the FPS-style combat system and not use the boring tab target + number keys system everyone else uses.
It makes sense since Bioware would always rather redo existing properties that=cha-ching than to risk creating something new, also the fact that ME is only supposed to be a trilogy, can't exactly let that mass popularity ($) go to waste after the 3rd one now can they?
There's no reason why it would have to be Mass Effect or any other existing property, other than to be lazy/reduce costs (by only needing to make the game and not lore/story/setting/etc, they would also probably clone SWTOR too) and to guarentee sales base on franchise popularity.. I really don't like Bioware's thinking since EA assumed control (metaphorically, I know they only own them in a legal sense, but there has been a growing lack of quality).
Knowing the entire background story of any game before playing it can kind of ruin some of that fun and sense of wonder too, it's like playing a video game based off of a movie before watching the movie (or vice versa), pretty much all of that shock and awe will be gone.. and I think it would kind of lose some value because of that.
Personally I would much rather see what Bioware would come up with from scratch.
Make an entirely new world/universe that could be designed with the sole purpose of being an MMO, the things they'd likely come up with would probably be pretty unique or atleast feel like a believeble and seemless world/universe, and not just disjointed par for the course zones.
Bioware, if you fail the DA or ME IPs by making an MMO I'll hate you forever, thanks.
You people do realise that MMO = death for a story driven game(IP)? Take warcraft for example... it was a beautiful story-driven strategy, AND THEY FED IT ALL UP... Problems with MMOs is that they cant have an "end" meaning any attempt at a decent story closure is futile...
It doesn't really make much sense at all with TOR coming out.
Who is to say that they haven't been working on it already and ready for a 2015 launch ?
This is what they should have been making instead of TOR.
I completely agree with this! If they keep the combat like Mass Effect and do not bring the trinity into it, I think it would be a great game. I would buy that in a heartbeat. If they are just going to take Mass Effect and make it exactly like every other MMO, then I would rather they did not waste their time and money.
Hmm fps combat for resorces or politics (general pvp) .. buildable and conquer able bases like the side mission stuff. mix of random generated missions ala ME style from ionic ME locations / city planets combined whit "sandbox" resource struggle /freedom and a nice themepark story line for the "end game raid lovers"
Eve meets FOM meets SWG meets <Insert themepark> Meets Minecraft hihi.. ohh if only we had the money..
If they did this, I sincerely hope they would rely on TOR to grab the WoW audience, and ME to grab the sandbox audience. ME has such potential to be a living breathing world, especially with all the lore that they put into the game and the stories they have. It would be incredibly disappointing to be sent on fetch quests and to have extremely limited freedom in a world where crime and gangs run rampant in the outer regions.
True but ever seen startrek or any other high sci-fi series? I mean, the reapers gona die (well I hope :P) or they are driven back for the first time in millions of years. that open up the ME story for thousends of new treats .. the story is about one guy/gal and his/her team but the ME setting is huge, far bigger then the almighty reapers.
theres this tiny bit of space some races work togetter but a large part of the galaxie is inhabitated by races that do have wars, the termines systems are highly unstable and that alone would make a fine setting for any mmo.
the reaper story could be compleetly left out of incl depending on the single player story line in the mmo be it in lore only or in themepark raid stuff.
and any new story line they wana do whit our beloved team could easely be intergrated into a mmo by lore or expansions.
having a mmo based on a IP does not stop any other progression whit/in a IP at all. just a little more tricky.
only make this if you will do the following:
Open World without Instance
Land that is as huge as the SWTOR right now and Space world that is as huge as EvE, and make it so that transition from Space to the Planet is seamless and even when you exit your ship, it's all seamless
i know.. i know =P, just messing around
So What Now?
Mass Effect without Shepard is just meh. I mean that would be like Mass Effect less 99% of the fun ^_^
Mission in life: Vanquish all MMORPG.com trolls - especially TESO, WOW and GW2 trolls.
The Mass Effect IP is rich and has a lot of depth written into it already which would make it a good starting point for a MMO. But I just don’t see EA or Bioware cannibalizing their own player base in SWTOR for another SciFi based MMO at least for the first 5 years or so the TOR is out. I kind of wish Bioware had chosen a original IP like Mass Effect for their MMO rather than Star Wars but I can also see the reasons they went the route they did. As it stands placing this MMO in a time period allows them to maintain the Star Wars feel without being confined by the movies. Something I always felt was a big downside to Galaxies (like why are their jedi all over the world?).
makes a lot more sense then another start wars MMO. Not sure what their logic was but hopefully for them their shot at a star wars MMO will be as successful as SOE's
