I wanted to know if their are any tutorials around for beginners or videos on youtube that can help you out. I also wanted to know if the game will be to slow for me. I heard people really like this game, but I also heard a lot of it is kind of slow and can get boring looking out at space all the time. I just want some opinions... thanks

Overall I'd say that EVE has great potential. Though still struggling through the early stages of MMO growth, the game seems to be shaping up quite well. Live events staged by the developers are already being planned, helping to make the game that much more fun. And the game mechanics make it possible for pretty much anyone to have fun. This game is for anyone who wants to be able to truly affect the game world around them, and be a part of the force that shapes the story of EVE. This game is not for those who want to be told where to go and what to do next, and is not for those who just want to go out and kill things. There are consequences to your actions in this game, and if you are unable to grasp the political situation and learn to battle in that arena as well as you battle the other players with your weapons, you won't survive long.
The game contains a fairly comprehensive tutorial system already. It should get you started in the right direction right off the bat. As for slow... meh, it is not for everyone. The biggest different in the progression system in EvE to other MMOs is you cannot powerlevel. It is impossible. A player that logs on 10 hours a day will progress their character just as fast as one that logs on 1. The skills simply take time. Now, yes massive play times can result in more money but honestly I have never had an issue getting what I wanted at a decent pace. The game does take patience. It is more about playing the game than 'beating' the game which is what most gamers these days seem to care about. As for scenery, well it is a space game. Lots of beautiful nebulas and space stations to look at. It is 100%, the adults MMO. It is harsh, it is complicated, it is unforgiving, and it is social. If you are looking for a very indepth MMO where you really live in the world rather than plunk a quarter in and ride the ride then this may be the one for you.
It's true, but satisfying if you are into that.

Sorry, that one made my chuckle a little. EvE launched in 2003 a year before World of Warcraft and is now on its 14th expansion.
I'm about a week in as a subscriber. Do a bit of research of all of the different kinds of roles that you can do in Eve and throw yourself in head and foot to become more efficient in that role. Immerse yourself and reap the rewards.
Thanks guys and GT for that wonderful graph, I just thought a tutorial of some kind may come in handy just to speed things up a bit and get into the action of the game. Also so I don't get my ass handed to me by some Super Starship Destroyer when I accidently enter some pvp zone or something lol.
You'll be doing PvE until you get the skills to pilot a certain rig. Remember that a ship = a role, and not everything works for any given situation. Most people stop at battleship, which is probably the strongest ship that you can fly in secure space, but there is a point to all the smaller ones as well. Research gun tracking speed, it will give you an idea of what ship works vs what. The distance to a target affects accuracy, and small ships need to get closer to the big ones (who can't track them that close). It's a fine battle of logistics and whatnot, but it can be really satisfying.
The general progression is;
frigate > destroyer > carrier > b. carrier > battleship > capital ship
Capital ships take forever to skill in and more resources than you'll ever handle personally. They can only stay in low sec areas, and are therefore susceptable to ambush, and they are sloooow. You bring those out as a powerhouse during mass PvP, not for strolling in.
The rest all have their place, but the smaller ones have advanced roles like interceptors (frigates), assault ships (destroyer), logistics (forget what class it is). They are great for when you are in a well equipped group, but you'd want to solo/PvE in a battleship normally (it's a prerequisite skill for some anyway).
Also, don't expect to be the king of 1v1 PvP. You get in fights because someone else has the advantage (whether it be numbers, or a better ship). Join a corporation, be social, and you'll find there is lots to do, and plenty of jagoffs to hunt down.

Thanks Gt i'll keep that in mind.
Just a little correction.
There is no ship progression, just different tasks.
yeah there is no real ship progression. You could just as easily go frigate>AF>Cruiser>HAC>HICTOR (you'll pick up the abreviations as you play. basically you train what works for the task you need.
Yeah, for me it was:
Cruiser -> Logi -> BC/CS -> Recons -> HAC -> BS -> Frigs
Great visual aid what you can do in Eve. I'd post the picture instead of the link but its rather large!

Not neccesarily true. Of course, if you're just starting the game and don't know anyone, this might be the most probable course. But since a (less than) 3-day old pilot can fit a rifter pretty decently and go roam in lowsec.. You get the idea. (I did this with an alt, and got a few kills as well - although, I already know what to train, what to fit, etc.)
But you can very quickly get into pvp, and there's a saying; The longer you wait, the harder it gets.
My best suggestion, should you want to get into pvp, is to join a corp that trains people for pvp. Not neccesarily blob-pvp, but small gang pvp or similar.
I joined 0.0TAP (I honestly can't remember the name anymore, it's a training corp/alliance that trains highsec people to go to nullsec) on my alt, and they trained a good amount of new players for small gang pvp, and went on regular low-sec ops to give people some experience.

dont, EVE is garbage. takes some people 5 years to realize it, but most veterans hate the game.
That's a subjective statement. I know people who regard Eve as the second coming. I also doubt people would play something for 5 years if it was garbage from the start.
If you could explain WHY it is garbage it would help your statement out.

myself and my entire corp still plays, 6 years later. all of us think the game is trash, but the occasional, decent pvp encounter makes it worthwhile. why do we play it? cuz theres no other sci fi mmo out there worth squat.
When you start a new character, you have the option to do multiple tutorials. Do all of them. You'll get ISK and ships out of it as well as knowledge.
If you want a manual, the best one is a player guide: http://www.isktheguide.com/
Give me liberty or give me lasers
just FYI: All zones in EVE are "PvP zones". Never forget that. You're relatively unlikely to be attacked at random in hi-sec, but don't ever make the mistake of thinking that means that you're automatically safe there.
Give me liberty or give me lasers
That doesn't mean you should tell new players (potential targets and encounters) that the game is garbage.
I've been playing 4-5 years, and I don't think the game is garbage.

Malcanis is right, the closest thing that there is for a reading tutorial is the ISK 3.0 guide. Best thing to do is find a corp and/or find an experenced player that is willing to teach you what they know.
Mostly, ask questions, but make sure that you check the in-game tutoruals 1st before asking a question. about 95% to 99% of the answers are in the tutorials and using the search function in the tutorials is a quick and fast way to find what you are looking for.
Enjoy!

OP, just remember this. EVE will never ask you what you want to do. She will never present you with a shiny list of goals that you can acheive. She will sit patiently for you to tell her what you want to do. You never beat EVE and there is no end-game. There is only taking which ever path to personal fufillment that you chose on any given day.

EVE Online is a fantastic game which is not that hard to figure out but to master it will take some time and experimenting. Perhaps the only true sandbox game out there and it only gets better with every patch. Joining a corporation is a must but you might have to jump around a bit before you find the coorporation that is right for you. There is a hell of a lot more going on in the universe than you will realize at first. Take your time and communicate with other players. EvE is a very social game and having ventrilo or some other voice chat software is also a must. Anything you can imagine that could take place in the depths of outer space is entirly possible in EVE.
