Serious question. I played beta and really wanted to like FF14. I did like the feel of the world but there was too much in the mechanics and gameplay that brought it down. Have they fixed anything since release?
Comments
They fixed a lot but the game still has no content.
My theme song.
My advice is go to the lodestone and do some looking. They changed quite a bit.
At the moment, right off the top of my head, they made it so you can regenerate power/stamina, whatever the heck you call it, without having to go to Aetheryte to replenish it. They added a search for the market wards, they added an additional type of targeting and one can store up to 8 receips in the recent recipes section.
there is a whole list of things that they have changed and will be changing or at least looking into.

they give us free cookie!
So they haven't changed
- The piss poor ui
- The stiff combat animations
- The repetitive nonsense leves
- The lack of content
...is what you're saying?
I really wanted to like this game as well, but let your hopes die because they are not going to be able to turn this ship around. I hope i'm wrong but don't count on it.
same here played the game for a while from start so i only want to come back if it is improved a lot. like the battle system
give it more time, they have only had what, 8 months? lol
I am surprised they haven't just shut it down and took the loss. Everyday the servers are up and people are working on it just means another day with losses in the thousands.
Unlike most MMO's tho FFXIV does not have investers. It is 100% funded by the developer/publisher Square Enix. They will keep throwing money at it until it is fixed
But S/E is a publicly traded company (TSE ticker number 9684), so it does have investors. However, it has some high profile releases coming out soon that, in addition to any cash on hand, it can use to help buoy this "readjustment period" in their flagship title (Dues Ex 2, Dungeon Siege 3, etc).
No, the game has not experienced any drastic changes (aside from personnel changes in the management). A lot of little things here and there have been updated, but if you didn't like it in beta or at release, your probably still not going to like it.
The good news though, is that it's still sans subscription fee, so if you have purchased it, it's still free to play and they haven't announced any concrete date for when subscription fees will start (other than "When it's good enough").
With its newest MMO in its flagship franchise, Square Enix delivers a gigantic, beautiful fantasy world to explore. The flexible class system means you'll be able to mix and match abilities from many different roles so you can change your specialization at will. Much of the promise of the combat system and depth of the crafting mechanics are drowned, unfortunately, under a sea of interface and performance issues that hinder the experience at nearly every step. While there's a lot to consider when building your ideal class, there's far too little interesting structured content to chew on, resulting in an experience that quickly grows tedious and tiresome. All MMOs are designed to keep players logging in for long into the future, but at launch Final Fantasy XIV's questing mechanics feel more like a subway commute than a fun gameplay experience. Patches over the course of the next few months may address many of the technical issues, but for now this is not a world worth visiting.
UI and Combat animations (which never bothered me, I thought they were great) are no longer problems. Ui works dandy now imo. but there is lack of content and piss poor leve system still, and no towns at all yet.
True, but the mmo division of SE is a tiny fraction of the company, and those investors are to the company as a whole
I think the thing about these forums for FFXIV that cracks me up the most is: a game company released a game to some very bad reviews, and the companies responce to the bad reviews was:
"Ok you dont like it, then we wont charge you for it until we can make you like it" And all the peeps around here (maybe not all but alot) keep yelling is "close it down it sucks!! why won't they just close it down?!"
Now, if there are players enjoying it (and there are) and its not costing any players (and its not) and SE is setting a pretty good example of what a company should actually do after they release a game that people complain about, then why is anyone yelling for its end???
To funny!

Maybe because it will never recover..
Damage at launch can be fatal, and the community know this all to well..
Just look at AoC . a game that is great, nevertheless, Funcom screwed up the launch, and it will not recover the same status.

ye but still:
really, why?
Never heard of anything like it, and that ppl still scream for closing it down really shows what kind of ppl are on these kinds of forums imo.
What I find notable is that in a thread where I asked basically "is it worth buying yet" and in which not a single person has asked that it be shut down, someone has to come and say they wonder why people keep asking for it to be shut down.
Maybe because of this comment?
