ever spent. I am enjoying this game so much. I am already at lvl 35. You're missing out if you can't play this game all maxed out. It's the best looking mmo out there. With full bloom and everythings else at 1080. Amazing experience.
Combat; - wow what a fresh breath. I actually have to PAY attention and use combo attacks. No more boring 1-2-3-dead crap.
BS you hear all over. No players ? - What are you talking about ? - I see tons of people running around. Twice I needed a group to finish quests and it took less than 10 mins to group up. They say the same thing for AIon ( another awesome game) - dead, will go f2p ... LOL . I signed up and it's full of people everywhere. All this doom talk, what a crapola.
Oh and the music is just amazing. I always loved Conan movie soundtrack, this game gives me a warm feeling.
I will def subscribe. And actually feel it's worth paying for it because of the originality and the whole atmosphere of the game.

i just resubbed from a year ago or so. stil think its too difficult. but i agree with the most things you said.
I personally think AOC is easily one of the best mmorpg's.
The poor launch alienated a lot of people, sadly.
Right now I am waiting on guildwars 2, but your post has me wanting to play AOC again. damn you!
You forgot to mention the boobs!
I still have this installed and still play the lower levels for free when I get bored of other games. If Rift had not come out, I would probably be subbed to AoC.
Glad to see more people starting up with AoC. It's a lot of fun, and we're starting to see the numbers that left to try Rift come back as well. I'm really hoping that more people keep trying it out because they've improved so many things with the game lately.
All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.
I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.
I enjoy the serenity of not caring what your opinion is.
I don't hate much, but I hate Apple© with a passion. If Steve Jobs was alive, I would punch him in the face.
I'm just about to resub after a while away but decided to try the free trial out first so I can see firsthand how the performance of the game is now. Just about to hit lvl 20 and haven't crashed or experienced any lag yet which makes me very happy to start subbing my proper account again.
I've also started playing recently (bought it at luanch, dropped it after the include 1st month) and so far it's ok, but not great.
And the graphics are damn good, if you got a machine that can handle it.
On combat though, combos only apply if you are a melee class. Casters don't seem to get much of anything interesting combat-wise. Most of my fights so far (32 demo) are 1,1,1,1,1,1,1,loot I don't even touch the three arrows >.>
Someone asked in chat what the most desired classes were and someone responded caster dps and heals. I don't know how true that is but given my experience with casters so far (boring) I could certainly see why.
I came back last April and have been her ever since.
I am rolling barbarian. It's def challenging. I need to pull one by one. But also it's extremely fun. I don't know something about swinging a huge axe Heads rolling .... Badass!
AoC is one of the rare mmos that I actually miss. Sadly after I hit peak level the raid gear grinds and little to no PvP turned me off. Freaken awesome game though, I'd recommend it to anyone.
AoC is a great game, I do miss it but once you have leveled 4 characters to 80 and done a lot of raiding it gets stale. Khitai was enough to get me to resub after my first Hiatus but they made a mistake making it faar too grindy (to keep subscriptions as long as possible obviously) and they also broke several of their early promises in relation to the expansion.
I dunno its a beautifull game world & has some great mechanics but endgame is still half arsed and crafting (despite all the improvements) still feels half arsed. There are a handfull of items each crafting profession can make that are in demand and the rest never see use.
Funcom should have offered a F2P option by now to get the server populations back up as the game truly is dying a slow death with Rift having dealt it a serious blow in recent months and I think the release of SWTOR is going to practically put AOC in a coma which is a shame.
One of the major criticisms of Hyborian Adventures was its lack of content. This complaint has been solidly addressed. As soon as players finish Tortage Island (the tutorial zone for Levels 1-20), they can immediately travel to a brand-new zone. The Gateway to Khitai lies in the shadow of the pseudo-historical Great Wall, harboring a disabled caravan in need of assistance and all manner of ferocious beasts and men. Though Khitai’s Far Eastern mythology is exciting, we’ve seen these dusty brown ridges elsewhere in the game. And yet, it manages to find greatness in moments like the gods smiling on you after placing a donation on their altar and the burnt orange fur of the wooly rhino. The authentic-sounding, powerful Eastern soundtrack is in a class by itself.
i still consider this one of the best mmo i'v ever played. not the funnest, because this game is just a bit too hard to be super fun (especially in pvp) unless you spend some serious time perfecting every aspect of combat. the gap between a skilled player and a non skilled player it's just insane. hands down the most graphically stunning, engaging and brutally exciting game ever. for 10 $ it's an absolute steal.
in the end what killed it for me was all the instancing(especially when travelling long distances), preformance issues in large pvp battles (sieges), the pvp gear imbalance and premades in minigames. damn premades were just awful....
AOC sucked at launch and it tarnished the repuation of it forever. Then Funcom took care of the rest.
What made me turn away from AOC is the fact that devs created a beutiful world and animations... and then destroyed it by having gameplay that puts stupid shields on our screen...
Thats like watching a person taking a dump in a beutiful sunset.... You never see the sun again in the same light.....
It looks like Amazon is selling copies for 5 bucks plus shipping.
Wow!
I'm thinking of picking this game up since its that cheap....
I love AoC, but I can't see me leaving Lotro (f2p) to pay a sub again. If AoC had the same f2p setup that Lotro has, I think FC could draw folks back in that left early on due to the horrible launch.
The soundtrack and combat system alone are better than most games as a whole.
Wait for lvl 50 (I think) and get to know Spellweaving better. Its not much used due to you have to be stationary while using it, but you can deal alot of damage if done right, and supported by healers. (Spellweaving drains life from the caster)
My sentiments exactly.
Then there is the ridiculous decision they made of changing it so that casters cannot use Stamina potions.
I resubbed tot he game a few weeks ago and am still enjoying it and plan on playing it another month after that, just not sure whether i'll get bored again by then due to the lack of PvP action in the game right now.
I also still think AoC is easily one of the best MMOs out there. Not a SINGLE MMO can challenge its technically. The game-engine, graphics, animation, combat system etc.. they are topnotch.
Only thing what lets me down is a stupid game director who focuses too much on PVE instead of PVP...
AOC!
I agree with you. This is the best MMORPG at the moment. Too bad it suffered a rocky launch like most other MMOs nowadays. I am in Crom and the server is flourishing. There was a little decrease of players after Rift launched, but most who left are coming back to Age of Conan (at least people I know).
