The environments look fantastic. The effiminate, anime style characters do not. I feel dirty just looking at the asian ideal of "male". I lived in Japan for a while, and I am pretty sure they're not all females, not really sure why they conceptualize themselves that way. And yes, I know the game is not Japanese, but it's a common theme through all asian popular culture.
I'm going to roll a female avatar anyway, so I don't care.
When I was younger, the MMO avatars were an extension of my personality, so they were always male. These days the avatars have a life of their own, a living (well, digital) embodiment of my imagination, thus it's easier to care about them in a female form.
Maybe it's the Eastern Mythology of themselves and hence the aesthetic clash is very "non-ideal" for Western pov? Cry3 does an impressive job with the environment, but overall the design feels alien instead of fantasy for me albeit with a few Medieval castles and Swashbuckling broadsides thrown in plus some welcome create/destroy interactions to supplement combat is another plus.
Still fly-by vids are two a dime, would prefer powerpoint presentation on the underlying game features/design and mechanics as that would be real information. But it's a pretty beast for sure.

Well I never lived in Japan, so I can't comment on your experience, but from what I have seen from all my asian friends, and having grew up in hong kong, I can tell you the whole "metrosexual" style definately exist, in Hongkong, you will see guys spend 20 min in public toilets looking at the mirror to fix their long gel'd up hair. With arms and legs skinny like a twig. Combine with the fact that most asian girl's chest feature are not as apparent, it is actually very easy to mix up some of the guys with some of the girls..........which I embrassing did so when I was on a trip to Hong Kong loll
So in the end, I understand where this art style is comming from, do I like it? I don't hate it, but I certainly loved a depth in artstyle, not having only one type of male characters in a game.
And to the guy with the problem with 360p, whats scary is that it actually looks decent in 360p lol, plus I loved the fact that the first guy was speaking english, you don't see that in any Korean games, this says how much they want to invade into the global business.
EDIT: when I type decent, I meant really good
How much WoW could a WoWhater hate, if a WoWhater could hate WoW? As much WoW as a WoWhater would, if a WoWhater could hate WoW.
I like a lot the official site. Instead of the heavy style sites other games have, this one is simple and precise. And it does a good job at presenting the game feature list.
MMO Culture translated what jake song said in the vid
The first generation online games had Lineage (Jake's creation) and Ultima Online as the representatives, giving gamers the first joy of online gaming. But these games lacked rules and guidance.
The second generation online games improved on these 2 aspects, adding in more content and visuals. However, players can only follow whatever gameplay the developers set for them.
The third generation online games use the previous 2 generations as the basics, further improving content and visuals. More importantly, players themselves can now create content and playing styles themselves, permanently reshaping the in-game world. When players log into the same place after some time, the place might look totally different.
They need to fix up the player housing. I don't want to live in a small box. I'd at least like a house with a few rooms in it. Need some variety like there was in UO.
The HD version is 37% uploaded. A little under an hour to go. Curse my slow connection. :X
Well thanks for doing it. I saw the original was in 360p and didn't bother. I have a 40" monitor and it would look like hot hammered poop so I didn't even bother because I knoew it wouldn't do the game justice. Regardless though as great as ArcheAge sounds on paper, I am still on the fence.

Holy crap, thanks for sharing. I can't believe I'm actually considering a Chinese mmo. This game looks like it's going to be phenomenal. The genre could really use a game like this, I hope they can deliver.

I really want to see this, but I don't want to ruin the experience by watching it in 360p.
Does anyone know if I can find it in HD somewhere?

Lets just hope it launches feature complete.

I can't play it yet cos I am in work. Is it in English?
I'm super excited about this, it really seems like a game to call home. I am going to try and limit the amount of hype and expectations of it however.
I'm trying to locate an HD copy right now.
EDIT: HD version is now available at...

Only two parts where a guy who practiced his lines a lot had the courage to speak. It's mostly marketing stuff, though.

My theme song.
Heads-up, this version of the video has English subtitles for all the spoken lines!

I'm not sure why, but I'm digging this game. It reminds me of FF art wise for some reason.
