And i prolly would get a temp ban or a deleted thread but here goes.
Why do selected few follow this game not in thier intent of hoping it to succeed but to find topics on the main board to show the world how bad SV does this how SV does that, I really just want some information why some people doing this for almost a year about a game, yes a game.
I mean it is a game yes it is bad yes it had bugs and yes it need work, but why dont people just try to understand that SV and other indie devs trying to break the generic mold of themepark gaming and try to show the MMO community that other kind of MMO can be done but the indi devs have limited funds so yes we see half baked MMOs.
Even the big boys making the same fault but why shoulnt we support the ones who try to break the mold?
If it's not broken, you are not innovating.

PMd you the answer instead, it is to serious for the direction below posters are taking it in.
haven't you heard? this is the butthurt-session. I thik most people on mmorpg.com spend more time bashing on games they hate than playing ones they like.
This! Haha!
Well, I cannot understand it either, that some ppl devote their lives (or spare time atleast) to bash a game they don't even play!
But look at it from the bright side, atleast they spread the word about Mortal Online on the first page so it is visible for others every day! There are not many constructive threads here anymore since the ones playing the game, and enjoy it, have better things to do in life, lige play the game!?
I really like the game, but have some hours sometime to surf around, so mmorpg.com and some other sites has my attention then. It is sad to se, but still quite fun to see them make themselves a laughing stock with all their bashing (often also without anything behind it, and sometimes downright lies that have been denied for a long time ago). And when they have the "evidence" for anything, they make it sound like world war 3. Just look at the: SV forgot to pay for the wesite bla bla. it's pretty fun to see what madness they come up with all the times
Well, I usually to try to let it all go, and see the good in their actions -> Mortal Online gets spread on the main site from all their posts. All publicity is good publicity imo! Especially now when the free trial is out!
"almost a year"? It's clearly been more than a year for a couple of the more vocal critics.
This thread probagly won't get deleted as long as people avoid personal attacks.
Now to the one simple question... Mortal onlineis trying to create an open world where the players define the goals, conflicts and alliances. Some people get passionate about that type of game and when they are disappointed by the results that passion turns against the game.
Those posts are from 2 years ago, X is Mortal Online, Y is Darkfall and the poster is a current critic on MO. Exactly which one is unimportant, I just posted this to illustrate the almost cut and paste nature of the posts. That is not to say that they are not valid. Some people came to both games with similar expectations and were disappointed in much the same way.
Two years later and the closest we have to "we'll see Y again from Sony or some other company, perhaps with better animations and graphics too." is WoD online and that probably won't be out for another 2 years.
The commitment some of these haters have to bash the game is quite astounding. Mortal Online has a lot of problems, and i unsubbed after a short while because of it, but then I just moved on to another GAME.
I mean the dedication...it's silliness.
For the same reason we see the same few faces proclaiming all is well in the game.
Personally I can't see the point in repeatedly bashing it, but then I also can't see the point in repeatedly trying to bullshit people into thinking that it is all hunky dory.
"Come and have a look at what you could have won."
I think many of you make one big mistake, namely to count SV and MO as one single object, which they are not. Many posts which are negative in fans eyes are aimed at SV as a company, and not at MO as a game. While I personally am quite interested in MO as an unique and interesting project, I detest SV for their attitude, methods, all the lies.. the list can go on, hoping they won't become an example for other companies. So please, don't mix SV and MO together as one object when discussing topics such as this one.
We indeed need to support the concept, but that doesn't mean we should support MO or SV, because they have done no good to the genre.
SV didn't handle things very well, regardless of the limited funds. Henrik's ego was one of the biggest problems, as well as the way they wanted to handle certain things.
If you want to succeed with limited funds, at least try to have a realistic project and don't try to milk people 15€/month for a broken not even half finished product.
Make it a small, but well fluffed and well functioning MMO like, say, Runescape, don't try to go for a new badass 3D engine that alone itself would trick people into believing the game is awesome (yes i'm refering to the original beta trailers)
don't go for a super duper complex battle system, don't waste time giving penis's and vagina's or rectums to characters...
But do go for a well designed world, with lots and lots of interesting places to interact with, lots of spells, lots of armors, weapons, different mobs, fun dungeons, quests, tradeskills, etc.
Make something different from the rest but do pick what's already proved to be good from past games.
In other words, its very possible to make a good sandbox MMO with small funds, as long as you have a good game designer, SV has good ideas and good will, but an aweful design team and an egomaniac CEO.
The thread can stay as long as the posts are reasonable and actual discussion instead of simple bashing.

Yes and I agree with this, well put and so true.
Now im not sure why they post al lthe time on here..
I pre-orderd the pile of crap that MO is and I was ripped off, the game was a lot more expensive than a standard AAA mmo but thought id give them a chance, my fault really for trusting them..
Anyway i dont spend my days on here constantly crying about the fact i put my hard earned cash into a turd as shit happens LOL
I dont think people here actually bash this game, but the company behind it.
Like many, I too want to see some game that breaks the WoW mold that AAA titles seem more than eager to adopt. But it is companies like SV who take a good conceptual game like MO and turn it into a disaster and further their failure by spinning a web of lies and fanboi propaganda in hopes of keeping it alive, is what is killing innovation.
Once people get burned by shady "indies" like these, they will think more than twice to give their money to another "indie" dev team who promise them something new other than the generic WoW crap, even if they CAN deliver something substantial on a small scale.
FYI, you dont actually support new developers by dumping money into a failing game, spearheaded by one of the most successful snake oil salesman in today's MMO market. I mean c`mon...even with half a brain you must be able to understand that anyone and everyone involved in MMO creation will know about SV and would be taking pointers on what NOT to do when creating, launching and maintaining a MMO. Do you think by prolonging its slow death you are actually doing it a favour? Or maybe you are under the impression that Henrik is going to sign a seven digit cheque to all upcoming indie devs from his "profits" off MO? Begs a thought, doesnt it.
As for me, I had MO on my watchlist since it was stated to released (multiple times) last year but gave up on it for obvious reasons. But these forums have been a blast and I always feel like the MO gamespace on the mmorpg forums has been one of the best free entertainment I have ever gotten off the internet
This is a great post!!

I follow this game for a few reasons, and I'll admit... I'm rooting for the failure of SV.
But why? SV decided early on that they wanted to bill customers without telling them. This affected a few of my friends who were on tour in Afghanistan and Iraq. They basically stole money from these guys, and ever since they displayed their lack of ethics, I realized what type of company this is.
It's a train wreck, basically. I poke in here from time to time and watch a slow motion view of a company coming to a crash. It's entertaining to see them put patch after patch out watching them fail every time, make up excuses, and find the leaks from their own staff explaining how stupid and inept the "management" are.
Either way, this train wreck will eventually unfold, and I'm surprised it's taken this long... but given their latest offerings, I would imagine that it's not far off from a real crash. Either way, I'll be poking in here once in awhile to check it out.
Meh, people follow MO for the failures for the same reason people watch shows like America's Funniest Home Videos. In the beggining they got cut slack because they were indie and people tried to understand. After awhile you find this goes far beyond just being an indie dev house. This is run more like a hobbist dev house, couple of guys making a game for the hell of it and giving some favors and special treatment to friends. Don't really know what they're doing but having a good time trying to do it.
This of course would be all fine and good, but they are charging people and promoting it. They attempt to generate hype and get new players to come join and pay.
That kind of makes it the joke of the industry. They are below indie level developers and try to charge people AAA prices. Every time they make a major blunder it becomes something funny. It's funny seeing a kid hit his dad in the nuts with a baseball bat when he misses the ball on the T, it's a lot funnier to see bad things happen (Deleting a whole town lol) to bad people (in this case People that try and charge outragous prices for shoddy products).
This isn't how everyone treats all indie devs, this is special treatment that SV and MO have brought on to themselves.
If it were treated like a hobbyist type of endeavor and they weren't trying to charge people AAA prices until the game was ready and took critisisms with a little grace it would be a different story. But SV kind of set itself up for this.
If you want people to cut SV and MO some slack then you have to start at the source of the problem, SV and MO.
I do wonder how serious OP was, considering he never came back to the thread..
My point is when you play a MMO and you find it lacking, bugged, or unplayable you write on the forums how you feel and how bugged the game is, it's quite common across the gaming boards, they write a few lines how they hate the game and how buggy it is ect., and after a few weeks they forgot about the game and play another MMO instead.
My question still stands, why constant links how bad SV are doing or why the link on forums that for some strange reason is important to post here.
Yes I can understand new players are angry about the game but we have seen same few people constantly looking for flaws in MO for over a year, so my question is why, why follow a game you really hate on a board, really why dig on the MO forums just to find that little small juicy thing to make a thread here.
Why the crusade?

There been several answers to that above, feel free to take another read.

Actual results would prove that last statement to be wrong... One would think that any new player would signup on the forums. Remember when Henrick was pushing "Forum Accounts" as a key indicator of interest in the game on his press releases? Well, as you can clearly see, if we use his own criteria interest has fallen sharply. There haven't even been 1000 forum accounts created all year and that is INCLUDING the free trial players and anyone who created "alt" forum accounts!
So yeah, like I said above. The great posts were the ones I listed

Aye, well to me the numbers of playing ingame is the key number. And that has increased so I am happy. I do not care about the forums numbers
And graphs is like statistics, you can do them they way you want to present them. I can make a good looking graph as well
It would be interesting to see some proof regarding the increase of players, maybe players just moved their focus to towns from random open PvP resulting in this illusion.
That I cannot asnwer, but I am booth in towns and in the wild, and experience more players everywhere. So, as I said, I am happy!
I would like to see that graph. Please do so!
