Trying to check this out...
...but the patcher is borked.
I signed on for the free weekend to see this game. I believe what people say, when they say this game is great, if you can get in. Through the registration process, after entering my email and password, I get "Version download failed. Cannot update to the current version at this time. Please try again in a few minutes. Error #1016."
After poking around the tech support of the official forums, I see there's this massive crash of multiple servers. The question I have doesn't even have a thread, mostly because I'm not allowed (probably as a trial user) to start a thread.
So what gives? Another constantly broken product in a genre plagued my such issues. MMO's have been around over 10 years, this particularly game over a month, and people still can't figure out how to make things work , and keep them working.
Just another letdown. I'll give it another 45 minutes, and if it still doesn't work, skip Rifts all together. Signed, just another gamer.

I did last weekends trial and had no problems at all. Game was kind of fun. Still not sure if I'm going to go for it. Hope you get your issue resolved.

That link does not work. It says file not found. Thanks for the reply, though.
I did notice it said beta version patcher and it made me wonder. Figured when it said " ...to current version..." it would figure that out on its own, since this is the link given from the registration.
So hey, come check out the broken game, with broken links, and here's a link to the wrong patcher so you can really get a feel for what they're trying to sell you.
