They have been sending waves of beta invites once a week for the past few weeks. I don't know if I should go into details, but I bough a realm stake for 6 months because I am enjoying it so much. The community is the best I've seen in an MMO. The dev's are really friendly, and it has some real nice ideas. Everyone should at least post of the forums to get an invite and try it out.
Playing - EVE, Wurm
Retired - Final Fantasy XI, Anarchy Online, Mabinogi
You can apply for beta testing just by creating a forum account. They sent some invitations recently. If you give it a try, you can get an invitation too maybe.
Beta invitations are averaging every 2 weeks. You sign up on their forums in order to get an invite and then they send out a mass e-mail to the new arrivals when the time comes.
A lot of people compare it to UO, but beware, the only similarities are the isometric view. Don't expect that "UO experience" when you start playing this game.
Just thought I would let everyone know, that they are now allowing a number of beta account signups each week. Go to the website and if it says "Available", you can create an account without a code. As usual, you can also join the forums to get a beta code emailed to you (usually within a week.
Really, if you're expecting UO, don't play this game. It has more in common with WoW and its clones than it has with the classic UO or Diablo games. Being a top-down, isometric view, doesn't make it a UO clone.
What I'm mainly talking about is the lack of any real PvP. 99% of the zones are "safe" zones and the only loot you lose are stackable things like potions and other "junk loot" if and when you enter a PvP zone.
Some other details:
The skills don't raise at any logical rate. It takes as long to get from 30-35 in a skill as it takes to get from 60-65 in that same skill. And it's not as if they skyrocket along the way. It's as if they took the standard learning curve other games used and made it a straight line.
Realms are cool and all, but the editor's buggy as all Hell and I guarantee you'll spend as much, if not more time, out of the game in the editor than you will playing the game.
The world map is also 99% empty space. The art work looks nice, but there's no reason to explore it all. No mobs, no random encounters, nothing. There's virtually no reason to walk around anywhere once you have the ability to teleport, especially since there's nothing out there to see.
Although you can make your realm PvP, are you seriously going to wait for someone to walk by randomly to try to kill them? As I said, no one has any reason to walk anywhere on the map so the only company you'll ever have are friends and guild mates.
They have, maybe, 3 or 4 people developing the game and it's been ongoing for years now. They're really making almost no progress with the game execpt for adding a new item or two here and there. We'll be lucky if this game ever sees the light of day in our lifetimes.
There are beta testers in the game who have been playing it for years now as well. They're perfectly content with the game being the way it is so you basically have a bunch of "yes men" backing up the devs and no one's really open to any kind of constructive criticism. They have their maxed out skills and don't want anyone to change that.
Take it for what it is - a fun, free, time-sink. But don't get too attached.
Why have I never heard of this game? This thread is 57 pages long and I haven't even noticed it before. Looking into it now. Looks like my kind of thing.
Gave it a try, and Im very sorry to say, that if you don't improve the 'newbie' game, people won't stick around long.
Its nota hack and slash / action feeling when u make a swing. wait 7-9 seconds. Then make your 2nd swing. All while the monster your fighting has hit you 5-6 times, and only has NOT killed you if he missed.
Make the game a little faster in combat, make it feel like something is actualy happening.
Sorry just found it very very boring. (Im sure i could have wanderd around picking tomatos or something but imo thats not my idea of fun)
please do not take this message as a necro post. I checked game forums and couldn't find a linkrealms section so i am posting my ideas here.
when i first downloaded and jumped into the game I came across with an amazing bunch of people. they helped me to get stronger in a special newbie dungeon. they offered me free gear. they answered every single one of my questions on world chat for days. devs seem nice. i actually talked with one of them in a dungeon while he/she was checking on a recent implementation. game world is really interesting. you can customize parts of the game world (you claim a map) and build whatever you like at that part of the world. you can grow plants, hire vendors, have livestock etc... you can have cockerels as pets and make them fight in tournaments. Skill system is very interesting. graphics seem nice to me. i really like this game's graphics for some reason. i believe i posted my ideas about this game here somewhere before. in addition to this:
there is only one flaw with this game. people who owns a land (ppl who claim a map) treats you in disrespectful ways when they see you running around their maps. to explore the game world you need to move around different parts of the game world and you come across with other people's maps. claimable maps have two parts: center of a map which is customizable by owner and corners of maps which is not customizable by owners. as a newbie i was running around ppl's maps by simply avoiding corners. everytime i came across a map with an owner while the owner is online i was treated like a scum. players ask you all sort of questions like "did you steal anything from me?" or "i am gonna have to kick you from my map." or " what da hell are you doing here?" and that is only the beginning. believe me it doesn't go anywhere nice from there.
other players say there are burglar players around who sneak into player owned maps and steal stuff from people's farms afaik.
after i was asked to leave player owned maps a not very less amount of time i quitted the game. the community is extremely helpful. there were volunteer players who were assigned to show newbies around back in my playing weeks. players answer every question on world chat but they get weird when they see you on their maps. those moments did not leave good memories.
Comcicomca, after all that, I have no ideea if I'd wanna join.. the community is vastly important for me, and a bad one would drive me away faster than some would spell "wow".
First you draw an idilic picture of great people, then some are utter paranoid (to not say worse).. kinda split in the middle.
I wonder how many sub fanboys are playing this game and saying.. wow it's f2p and it's good.. what do I do now.. all that energy wasted on being a sub fanatic..
Isn't it great how you can just try the game without commiting to a possible wasted investment.. just a thought xD
Most people go through life pretending to be a boss. I go through life pretending I'm not.

welcome to my world ^^ i was sick of explaining myself to other players everytime i come across with them on their maps. the thing is community is very tight so players help other players to encourage them to stick around. but they like their maps A LOT i guess : )

I'd reccomend this game for anyone who likes UO type of gameplay. It's basiclly a crap version of UO but I mean that in a good way.
afaik there is no full loot pvp in this game. you can only loot other players' consumable items when they are dead. lootable items are drinks (for healing) or food. pk is allowed only in a dungeon and it is not a newbie dungeon. you can not loot players gear. pvp can be enabled by players on their maps if they want a pvp enabled map. at least pk and loot was like this when i was playing. i don't know if it's changed to something much more. game is still developed.
about being similar to uo:
only the interface (some parts of it like the bag or skill book) and isometric view is similar to uo. two games does not share game mechanics. there are no full loot open pvp zones. it is a safe sandbox fantasy world.
There's no reason to play this game, It's like some other guy said, 99% trammel.. err safe zone.
It takes them half a year to create and add a one single dungeon to the game which is on their top priority list.. That tells you all you need to know about their developing speed.
And this game does NOT have full loot. There's only a few things droppable on death and they are hardly worth even picking up. Combat system is a bad clone of UO without fizzles and a ton of lag delayment especially in movement.
DEVs have also given out really amazing and crazy unfair items to the old vets. They had planned on whiping all those items before implementing their cash shop but for some reason they didn't and then it was too late for them (in their own view) to remove all those unfair rares from the vets.
This game has no open pvp. PvP is done in PvP zones.. which consists right now of one PvP dungeon and 1 PvP Instance that you can have tournaments in and place bets.
The game world is split up in zones aka realms. Players can rent realms for irl cash but there's not much point in owning one except using it as extra storage space and farming. You can set it to PvP enabled but it's only the center of the realm that's PvP enabled, So if someone is stance on the border he's safe. Also while he's inside your realm all he have to do is press the "leave realm" button to instantly teleport to safety outside the PvP enabled area.
Made this account just to show my hate for the game.. It had amazing potential but these DEVs are hopeless.
So lets all wait for the next game to try conquer the niche sandbox-full-loot-open-pvp loving playerbase and then fail.
I played this game the last ten days straight. This game has one of the most interesting gaming communities out there.
The second day I was playing a player who has a "Guide" title ported me somewhere and killed me just for his fun. Guides are players who has the responsibility to show newbies around and answer their questions. Luckily I was able to take a screenshot of him right after he killed me. I sent the e-mail to the company and I showed the screenshot to other guides. Well the developers didn't do anything. They told me he was warned. The playerbase was thinking that I am some older/veteran/banned (i dunno) player who just recently returned with another toon. People were actually saying me this. Can you imagine trying to convince people that you are a newbie? It is ridiculous right? Well it seems in this game you have to convince people that you are a newbie.
For some reason these so called guides were answering my newbie questions on world chat but all the people who were currently playing the game were somewhat convinced that I was an older/banned player of Linkrealms. That guy who ported me and killed me was swearing that he didnt do that and my screenshot was a fake. Well he remained as a Guide. It seems if you are developers' boy in this game you can survive this kind of behaviour. I was able to convince only one (1!) person that I was a newbie and he was my guildie.
The thing is developers need old/veteran players to test newly added content to the game. Maybe this is why they like them so much.
People can say nasty things even about your family members while a developer is on and noone really cares.
Macroing is allowed as long as you are in front of your computer. People say devs teleport to you and ceck if you are afk or not. If you are afk macroing it is against the rules they say. Well you get the idea... Attended macroing... Yes... The next issue is world peace.
This game is like a mismanaged Ultima Online server where you can do/say whatever you like to other players if you know the owner of the server.
Game companies should try their best to comfort their playerbase if their cash shop is up and running.
Can you put a screenshot here as well just cus I'm curious lol.
DEVs protect corrupt "Game Masters" in this game.
Guides have pretty much the same powers as a GM in a other game.. I've sent millions of PMs to DEVs telling them about Guides abusing their powers they just keep saying they will give a warning but I'm sure they just go and congratulate them.
And yes, You can even afk macro right at the bank.
The players will even protect you while you're doing that.. as long as you're a carebear.
Thank you for taking your time and making this great post. I won't have to waste my time now on another corrupted macro-fest (like I did with Xsyon...)

I can not post a screenshot HERE because the game is still in closed beta. I didn't see any kind of NDA but closed beta pretty much sums up game's phase. Yet there is an article about this game on massively. The issue occured in Stone Abyss. A dev saw the screenie and guides saw it as well. The dev later told me he was convinced that I wasn't a banned player but the playerbase kept adressing me as one which is pretty annoying.
About macroing: Well some players say they report if they realize someone is afk macroing but I don't know if they get banned or not. Because devs don't keep game logs. Even if you have a screenshot about an issue they can not confirm your complaint by checking game logs. Well you get the idea...
There are banned players though. I know that as a fact because I was adressed as one pretty often and it is really annoying. Noone knows why a player is banned though. In almost every mmo this kind of information stays with the community manager so I can't complain about this : )

This game is true Indy MMO with like less than 10 devs...so judge it for what it is

Great game.

ya, so far I'm having a blast. I never played UO but I imagine this is very similar. Going to try and make a realm in a bit.
