Rift Problems

Zeppelin5083Zeppelin5083 Member Posts: 410

I am not on here to hate or anything, I just heard that Rift was supposed to be a great game, so I checked out these forums. I see a lot of bugs and problems with the servers and wait times, and characters disappearing. One would think these problems would of been addressed before release?

I'm just wondering what's going on with it? I was thinking of trying it out but now I'm not so sure.

No wait times after the first month is over and a good portion of the gamers that came for the new experience but didn't like it for the long ride left.

Minor bugs here and there that when reported are solved in record time. Nothing gamebreaking so far.

Characters disappearing? That's the first time I see it mentioned.

Overall the game is both polished and stable. One might say these are its only redeeming qualities. So I wouldn't worry about the technical aspect of the game really and focus more on whether as a game I find it fun to play.

I haven't seen what the OP talks about with server wait times or characters disappearing.

Having now played to level 50, I have enjoyed the games graphics, character creation(of which there are many class combinations), storyline, ability to go anywhere ingame.

I haven't enjoyed crafting as I think there is allot yet to do with it by the developers. PVP is okay and that's about all.

Like so many MMO's today, the game is grindy working your way up. And there is now this feeling, having made it to level 50 of "now what"

In all its a very well done game. I don't know if I'm going to continue to play it though.

I have played in all beta's and never did my character disappear on me......it must be some people who just use wrong drivers for their GFX cards, nothing more.

Wait times was just a fiew weeks after release.....all the people who dont have an irl life rushed too 50 and then left because they got bored or needed some sleep after lvling their toons to max lvl.

There are no Q's anymore but there are plenty of people around.

I think you are pretty safe. The bugs I've found are exceptionally minor. I've seen one or two posts with players characters vanishing but if thos were true they are extremely rare. wait times will always happen with new popular games.

If those things are keeping you from playing then you can put your fears aside. This is one of the most stable launches I've seen in a while.

Characters do dissappear sometimes, it must be a new bug after patch 1.1. You can solve it by logging out and re-logging (at least thats what worked for me)

Rift runs pretty much rock solid, very few bugs and has been mentioned, they are fixed fast. The only thing that dissapears for me is the evening as like most good MMO's, once youre in youre in for awhile. really enjoying it. Am not a hardcore player so my levelling is quite slow but I enjoy the journey. There is a lot more to this game than meets the eye, but it depends on your playstyle. For me I even get a laugh out of some of the NPC's and mob animations, i.e. the witches in scarlet gorge, when they die their staff spins in the air and drops on their bod. I like to see animated NPC's, it brings the world to life... but i'm easily pleased. Enjoy.

It's an extremely polished game for release. I didn't experience very many bugs or general performance issues. That said, it is basically a mashup of the last six years of themepark MMOs. I got bored quickly because it felt like I'd already played Rift. Trion will not differentiate the game enough to keep people interested who are currently burned out/looking for something new and interesting.

I was playing an my character dissapeared. I could still run around and cast spells, but the character wasn't showing up. This happened only once and a reload of the UI fixed it. Havn't had any probs with it since. The only thing that has been aweful is the random D/C's. After the little updates I am getting a message that data is missing or corrupt, even after I do the recovery as per the instructions. Game still runs, even though some of the words flash across the screen kinda buggy. I chalk it up to my pc however and not the game.

RIP Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan and Paul Gray.

actually I logged into rift at 3pm eastern time on saturday for the phase 2 even which is the time it was suppose to start.  5:30 rolled around and it still had not started and we got a a server message saying it would start in 30 minutes.

Shortly after that my wife disappeared and didnt return for at least 2 hours.  Something about dinner?

The major problem with the game is more of an annoyance more than anything.  It's the amount of attempts have been made to hack accounts.  With the coin lock system (I don't know why every game doesn't have this), it makes it more of an annoyance since a hacker can't do anything with your account even if they're successful.

The game is alright, the bugs the OP was talking about I know nothing about. Characters disappearing? No. You mean hacked accounts?

There were queue times in the beginning, then they stopped. I saw one on Saturday for the event, and never got it, but that is it since release week. And the event was the worst event execution I have ever seen in an MMO, ever. Kind of left a stale taste in my mouth, like they really have no idea what they are doing, they just copy everything.

I will probably stick around another month or so, we will probably have all of GS down this week and it will be onto the next zone (if it even works). Either way, the game isn't anything special, basically exactly what to expect out of any game for the past 6-7 years.

I think my only hope is GW2 and EQNext (though SoE will probably ruin that completely). The entire genre is just getting pretty stale, and every game feels basically the exact same as the last. You get bored, buy something else, only to have it be the same thing you just played in a different world, with a different name.

No idea what you're on about with wait times... I'm on one of the headstart servers, EU Icewatch and haven't had any queues at all since the first week of retail release came and went.

    Not experienced characters disappearing either...

There's been no issues with the server i'm on, infact quite the opposite, I'm getting below 70ms latency at all times...

To be honest, don't read forums because you will always have people on there that have had problems of some description, the people that don't have any problems don't use the forums so it's a very small percentage of people that have problems (although I bet most of the problems are end user based and not Trion's fault anyway).
