    10six!  ~March 2000.

I remember watching over my brother's shoulder late one night as we blew up the highest base we could find....thousands of this high ranking victim's "jitters" or loot scattered across the screen when the base finally blew up. We were two giddy little kids.....thousands of hours of MMOs across every game on this site's list since and this is my only fond MMO memory... along with an ambushed seige in Darkfall....too bad 10six died so quick and you had to macro in Darkfall to be competitive after the first week.

    Ultima Online.  Hurray for dial-up!

Hell hath no fury like an MMORPG player scorned.

Ultima Online for me, but life for me was alot of travelling and movements back then.  Play was far too infrequent because of my occupation.

But the first MMORPG that I put alot of time in was SWG.  Would've been more if my computer was up to specs when that game came out.

"I have only two out of my company and 20 out of some other company. We need support, but it is almost suicide to try to get it here as we are swept by machine gun fire and a constant barrage is on us. I have no one on my left and only a few on my right. I will hold." The beta and release of Sierra's "The Realm" (circa. 1996).  I'll  Never forget that beta as it was my first time beta testing a game and Sierra was kind enough to actually mail each of their beta players a Sierra game of their choosing for participating in it.  Man, those were the good old days of beta testing!  LOL!!

EQ1 for less than a year because it was on my friend's rig and I paid him a good portion of my lunch money so I could 'claim' portion of the subscription fee and some rights to my character on his account.

Met someone who was playing Asheron's Call as I picked up my first rig that could handle an mmo. Played that for 5 years so I consider it my first really great mmo experience.

Dark Age of Camelot -- two college gaming groups kind of merged together and suddenly there were about 10 of us running around.  We started in Albion as Highlanders and just zerging stuff was crazy.  Everyone was using auto-attack those first few levels (because we didn't know any better) and then I happened to pull off a skill attack that required positioning and everyone freaked out -- it was great.

And then, of course, there was the first time you approached Camelot.  That was simply a gorgeous spectacle.  Finally, there was that first dungeon just outside of Camelot.  It was one thing to be running around with your party and even occasionally seeing other people running around, but when you're in tight corners of a (non-instanced!) dungeon with fast respawns and large aggro radii,  people from other parties would be fleeing because they got in over their head and then you realized you had to haul ass too, or you were in the grinder as well.

And this is why I fell in love with mmo's.

My first mmo was UO/NWN, UO because of a friend who got me interested in it and the idea of shards. I bought a copy and played on the origin servers for awhile before I went to shards mostly. Loved the difficulty and actual sense of doing things rather than just button clicking.

Shadow of Yserbius/Fates of Twinion on the Sierra Network, followed by NWN on AOL, followed by Darksun Online on TEN.

First "real" MMORPG was Ultima Online.  Still have my founder's boxed set :)
