how do i use the Artifact? do i use them by them self or with weapons/armor or what?

Its a offhand item, double click it to equip it. You can find shields that go into the same hand.
Just make sure your not using a two handed weapon if you want to equip an artifact or else you won't recieve the benefits from it.
