Hey, I was gonna make a separate thread about this one... cars?
THIS IS MADNESS.
Madness? No.
ThIS... IS... TYRIA !!

Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."
Yeah, yeah. I admit, that looked really great.
p.s. Those cars ... will they be Charr mounts? Could it be? (if so I will take back my teleporting complaints and laugh about all the fans that said they didn't want any mounts just because they hadn't been announced yet).
My brand new bloggity blog.
They SPECIFICALLY said on the GW2 facebook page 'No, those vehicles are not player mounts'. They only forgot to add in 'Mr. Darkpony' because they were rushing the post.
(... seriously, they actually said they're not mounts. Sorry to burst your bubble. )
edit: Guild Wars 2 Just a note about the video: there are vehicles that charr NPCs use, but they are not player mounts in any way. We are not committing to player mounts for launch. As we have shown in demos, Guild Wars 2 will have map and waypoint travel for a small fee. ~RB
(Added the actual quote)
Probably not mounts, but I think it's possible there will be certain areas where you can take control of all kinds of creatures and vehicles with unique abilities.
In GW1:
Junundu.
Siege devourer.
I suppose forms/disguises/vehicles/stuff like this may now be considered Environmental Weapons.
I was sure the Charr ARE the mounts.
Another innovation of Arenanet: Play as a mount
Ah, too bad. V_V Thanks for enlightening me, didn't have time to dive into it yet.
@ Alot: Yeah, something like that would be cool.
Bye now, Pony needs to plough more.

There are tanks there!!! I'm just going to preen now because I called it and Meowhead didn't buy it.
*preens.*
Anyway, for those who're curious, they're visible at two points. The point where you see cars in the distance and Charr in the foreground, and the point where you see the cars up close. They have an armadillo/hedgehog like appearance, very spiky, but they also have massive tracks, what looks like a mortar gun, and a visible engine! If that's not a tank then I don't know what is!
The Charr have tanks!
Glee.
That's made my day.
(I will note in this 'ere edit that the HD version is worth downloading, it's much easier to see the detail on the tanks, that way.)
(Oh, and just as another quick edit - I'm almost certain that they'll be used in dynamic events. I was right about them being there, wasn't I? It'd be madness to design separate models like that and not let people use them. So mark my words, there'll be a dynamic event, likely near the end of the game, where you uset hose cars and tanks to help usher in a grand Charr victory!)
(Also... okay, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'll stop editing after this... also, is anyone else amused that Charr engineering obeys our most recent findings, meaning that they're more advanced than we even realised? There are many reasons why you want to design a vehicle or a tank without a big, flat, front paart. I'll leave the explaining of why to someone else because generally I stink at explaining and if I tried to explain this to you we'd be here all day and I'd be talking us in circles, I'm not a very good teacher. Anyway, it's better to have a sleek, sloped design. And what to Charr tanks and cars have? Heee.)
Perhaps they have some aerodynamic engineers in the charr ranks.
So, here's a quote from the Guild Wars 2 Facebook page:
Guild Wars 2 Just a note about the video: there are vehicles that charr NPCs use, but they are not player mounts in any way. We are not committing to player mounts for launch. As we have shown in demos, Guild Wars 2 will have map and waypoint travel for a small fee.
Especially interesting is that they say NPCs will drive these vehicles. Did I manage to call it again? In prior threads and in this one I've said that vehicles wouldn't be mounts, but rather elements of dynamic events, driven by NPCs where we do the shooting, as this makes the most sense. That means we can be mobile in a fight, which would be awesome, but we can concentrate on shooting without leaving the dynamic event area. It makes sense!
Great minds think alike! That's exactly my take on it, too, which is fascinating, really. This means that there are organised Charr places of learning and groupings of scholars, so whilst everyone is a soldier at heart, that's not the vocation of every Charr alive.
Interesting. Very interesting.
