Armour works fine aswell, you just gotta have high lvl crafting/gathering skills to make better quality armour, at the moment non-one ingame can make the best armour yet and it's mostly poor quality so doesn't protect you much.

There IS a compass but it's built into the enviroment.

I know what stats effect what so i know how to make a starting charactor build, others do to, i say starting char because your stats change over the course of your game life depending on what you do ingame, for instance you might roll a charactor with low strength but over a few months if you do labouring jobs like cutting down trees and hauling the logs around your strength will increase while your intelligence might drop because you havn't been crafting at all.

If you look in the game files you will notice that there are more than 4 animals, hopefully they will be turned on soon.

That highlighted point sums up the game perfectly.  There's a lot of potential for Xsyon, but that's all it is - potential.  They charged people to buy the game and then a monthly fee on top of that (albeit, you get several weeks for free) yet they haven't turned on most of the features that would make their game, a game

Armor is, in effect, broken.  Unless they come out and say otherwise, it's hard to sell the idea that it does anything.  Bone is bone, leather is leather, there is no quality involved in the materials.  During beta/pre-wipe, many people had high crafting skills yet the armor still failed to do anything noticeable.

When you say stats change, do you mean up as well as down, or just down?  For ages they only had stat decay implemented, not stat gain.  Just about everyone lost points in most of their stats, especially the ones they didn't use often.  No one, however, ever gained any points.  Oh, and they launched the game in this state!

Combat though, isn't tab based, it's the exact opposite.  It's a clsuterf*** of latency and random hits.  There's no skill, no tactics... nothing really involved in combat that even hints at the idea of being combat.

And since I haven't played it since 1 week after launch, perhaps people can tell me if they ever fixed/added the following:

Faith - does it do anything yet?

Buildings - serve a purpose or just look pretty?  Does it still rain indoors?

Comfort - was supposed to give buildings a purpose - is it in the game yet?

Terraforming - still lag everything down, or can everyone start digging holes and the game stays stable (with more than just 12 people logged in)?

Trash - I had thousands of buttons, coins and can tabs stored up with no use for them at all.  Have they added recipes that actually use some of these worthless items?

Invisible walls - a ditch or mound that went 4 levels deep/high became an invisible object you couldn't navigate around, even if you could esily jump the ditch, you'd hit an invisible wall mid-air and fall in the ditch.

Animals - Do they run off into the Mist or stick around finally?

Combat - Have they gotten that specialist they were hiring to fix the combat system yet?

You are wrong on the armour part, it's not broken. it's working as intended.

Private baskets are lootable if worn right?

Tested this with an alt the other day and it seemed I could access all the baskets of the poor sap I killed... well, me.

Just want to clarify to know if I'm missing something.

Name's Book ingame if you want to send me a whisper and test it out.

Oh, saw something about a lack of compass.  That would be a great addition, but in the meantime, clouds always move to the north.  Look up :).  (sorry if that was already mentioned)

Xsyon, at the moment - and perhaps in the future too - is not a combat-centric game. In it's current state it's a sandbox that is much more like A Tale in the Desert (a MMORPG without any combat at all!) than Darkfall or other wargames. Everybody thinking about joining Xsyon to battle mobs and other players should stay away, at least for the time being. You also should stay away if you expect a finished game, Xsyon is not.

Yet, it seems to be extraordinarily difficult for many current MMORPG players to grasp the concept of an MMORPG that is not focused on combat. Thus let me restate the obvious: Xsyon is not the game for you if combat is the main thing you want to do in your MMORPG.

Perhaps it's this for many people almost alien concept of an MMORPG that causes usually respected posters on these boards (@Kyleran, yes, you) to post a bunch of mis-information about Xsyon.

I maintain this List of Sandbox MMORPGs. Please post or send PM for corrections and suggestions.

Yeah it's a bit annoying the amount of misinfomation about xsyon on this website, but you can't lay all the blame at the players (most of it though) because the way xsyon is setup. The devs won't post alot of the new additions or patch notes because they want people to find out 1st hand ingame, which leads to people getting confused about certain mechanics ingame because they don't know any better.

Feel free to post corrections to any mis-information I put about Xyson.  Outside of tab targeting I'm not seeing much else that I was mistaken on. (armor doesn't matter a whit at lower levels, fight naked for all it matters)

And while its true that I insist my games have combat mechanics that has nothing to do with what I posted nor was there any malice.  No one else seemed to be responding to Yamota, please provide your own version so he can be better informed.

Xsyon is faaar away from finished but it does provide fun if you are into building crafting and gathering. It is quite relaxing for me to Work on how my camp looks like rather then to slay 1209209202 boars. It gives me a creative feeling.

Combat is 100% broken right now. So are animals and hunting.

There is also resources imbalance. Too much junk around and too few trees.

I'll give them another 2-3 months and if nothing changes I'll pull the plug on my gaming, there is only so much you can do and I expect to exaust it within that time period. But even if I walked out now I would have the feeling of getting something for my money back.  Again I like crafting and creation opposite of destruction most games offer.

Now if someone could mix Xsyon with Borderlands... Uh, life time subscription would be ok.

Edit: Items have statuses but they are hidden. Armor does provide protection and weapons deal more damage if crafted by people with high skills.

No fate but what we make, so make me a ham sandwich please.

No doubt the game should not have launched... but i wanted to note:

To everyone mentioning the broken piles of worthless junk such as beer tabs, buttons, etc.; It's clear the devs intended for players to use these items as currency.  Notice when you scavenge these things you always uncover a large quantity.  Since there no in game currency I imagine they were hoping players could set a currency scale with these items.  It's a neat idea, but good luck having an entire player base be that organized.

I'll give you 17 buttons and 12 beer tabs for that rusty shovel!

  • BooksterBookster Member UncommonPosts: 5

Yeah, organization can be hard to accomplish.  It's feasible though.

Last week, I traded someone dollars for a human skull** and rubber scrap I needed.  He wanted the dollars to buy baskets from one of the local tribes.  I now know that when I find dollars, quarters and pennies, I can call him up and see what he's got to trade.

Could also go to the tribe in question directly, but I like working with small business owners :).

So perhaps organization will take quite a bit of time as the ripple effect moves across the map.

Maybe another tribe on the other side of the map will choose buttons as their currency, and I will one day be trading buttons for their dollars...

I'm enjoying the game very much.  It's not for everyone, but no game is.

**the human skull was scavenged, no actual humans were harmed for this transaction.

Just because the game released in this state doesnt mean the game was intended to be that way.

They talked up combat and PvE before but have failed miserably.
