What should Rift improve on?

VespuraVespura Member Posts: 71

I've only played for a bit, but here's the 3 (4) major things I'd like to see improved...

1. More diversity. The Kelari and Bahmi and most of the mobs have to same skin color... What's up with that!? It'd be good to see this world painted a different color.

2. Dungeon finder. There's a warfront finder, but not dungeon finder.

3. Animations.... Pretty bland and boring...

(4. Riftblade class... When choosing the class, it's spelled Riftbladd.... Lol. That needs to be fixed!)

Mostly just a dungeon finder and more open world PvP objectives in the same vein as Warhammer's RvR lakes.

    No.4 was hotfixed today :)

The dungeonfinder will make the game a lobby game, no-one will move from the Auction House.

A summoning stone would be useful however!

More animation frames are always welcome. Can't say it overly detracts from gameplay much though.

    1. Endgame - something different to do other then grind experts/raids

    2. Alt play needs to be considered and a whole new continent put in to do so.  Yeah, probably won't happen.  But there it is.  This game world's continent feels like half of WoW's eastern continent.   Leveling up through the exact same quest lines on every character doesn not a fun replay make.

    3. Better art on gear.

    4. More fluff like minigames, housing, fishing, and cooking.

Only four things you don't like? Wow! My favourite mmos ever usually had a couple of hundred things i'd change and most new launch mmos have hundreds of problems. You must really love Rift.

I've only played to level 15 so far. I'd probably change the crappy starting areas for Guardians, that could be a deal breaker for anyone doing the free trial.

They need to seriously turn down the frequency of Rift's showing up, cause it annoyed the heck out of me when I finished closing a Rift and 2 more just spawned close-by. I think the actual rifts in Rift would have more of an impact on the world if they didn't just spawn every half second.

I haven't made it to end game yet, as I didn't have time to play much until recently. But here is my own grocery list of improvements:

    • Get more quest lines. I don't know if adding many zones is a good idea, as this may be a problem should the population spread too thin in a dynamic world. But adding quest lines so you can pick different paths while leveling might be enough.

    • Add more crafting recipes. It seems there are only 1 set available at all time while leveling. I didn't see any 'rare' sets, which might require rare materials (from Rifts, PvP or what not) that would appeal to me.

    • Anything to help finding a group Dungeon Finder is a way, though an improved group finding tool such as what was in World of Warcraft before Dungeon Finder (where you decide the role and the dungeon/quest area you would like to group for)

    • More soundtracks in towns. When you are walking, questing, exploring the soundtrack supports whatever you are doing. When you are crafting in town, reading quests, or chatting with others it seems to fall short...

I've only invested around 25 hours in the game so far, so my experience in the game is fairly limited, but the one thing that I have noticed is the lack of player interaction with each other. Outside of ramdom groups (which disband after a few minutes or when their objective is complete) there's very little chat in chat channels or via PMs, heck even group chat is full of tumbleweed. I'm not entirely sure why either. Perhaps there's too much going on, but compared to other MMOs that doesn't feel like the case to me.

The few people I have managed to strike up  fairly long conversation with have had similar experience on the server (Steampike/EU) which is a fairly high population server too. I realise many people are in guilds/clans but MMOs don't survive on guild populations alone, it's rather sad to see general chat areas empty for hours on end when there's plenty of people running about solo - why bother playing an MMORPG?

Only an initial impression of the game and I'll happily continue to play until my subs runs out at the start of May to give it a fair ol'whack.

Not entirely sure how they could improve this situation though :)

    1) A PvP system that doesn't feel as tacked on as WoW's did in Classic. It's like a sideshow. A reason to do World PvP would be nice.

    2) The devs to stop screwing with hybrid builds. I was annoyed when they added those passive incentives to invest more than X points into any given soul for a percent bonus per point invested. Then they recently said they wanted to add further incentive to go 51 into any given soul. Yes, balancing all these different builds is probably difficult, but they designed the system to be flexible for a reason. Forcing everyone into a 51 point soul to be viable is a terrible and terribly lazy way to design, and I hope they aren't going that route. In my opinion, if the passive effects and abilities you gain by going 51 points into a soul isn't worth it, then you shouldn't have to for one passive ability that gives a percentage increase to your damage/healing.

    3) Spell animations and sound effects. Very bland. Character animations are alright.

.. But in a good way.

1.) I agree with the spell animations

2.) No dungeon finder but a LFG for your server would be nice.

3.)  Lastly, crafting items should be better than dungeon items or at least on par

These are not make or break but would be nice.

More land mass and less mountain(ed) in paths would be nice

    More dynamic quests and puzzles.

More types of quests within rifts.

Maybe more incentive to break wardstones in opposing faction towns (take over the town maybe?)

    Not to add flying mounts

    More lower level dungeons.

mutliple starting zones...having 4 characters go through the same zone was a bit bleh

Dont get me wrong i love the game but the above would be nice.

A dungeon finder would  remove people walking around like it did in wow :( i missed seeing large parties of people traveling places. I wouldnt mind it if it didnt teleport you there.

(besides you already only need one person to run there)

Its funny to me, I actually really like Rift and only subbed for a month. I un-subbed cause I found myself bored with the community. I even rolled on an RP server because generally RP servers have nicer folks. I dont even roleplay. If I could pick some things the development team should be focusing on besides the hohum everday life of creating new endgame content it would be....

1.) Guild search tool. Something that shows all the guilds recruiting, what the guilds about, and what the guild needs etc. This would make it easier for people like me to meet up with other people instead of accidently winding up in a religious military guild. Woops.

2.) Player/Guild housing. FFS just take EQ2s housing. Add trophys from dungeons/raids/rifts to put in your place. Create a new tradeskill from it. I dont care if people think it has no place in video games, I freaking loved it in EQ2 and Rift would be great with it.

3.) I personally think Rift would be pretty rad if they actually gave us the ability to access all the souls from each archetype, 32 souls to choose from in 3 trees.

4.) Gonna have to repeat  from a poster above. The races just aren't that interesting.

    Just my few cents.

Very important points that have been mentioned:

    - LFG finders especially Dungeon

    - Objectives & Events for open world PvP or no point in having PvP servers at all

And, if they want to keep players who are reaching or reached max. level, a overhaul of what they thought would keep subscribers after 2-3 months. Of course if they do have incoming content that's totally unique to what there is now, it should be fine.
