Sometimes players create the most interesting videos about ways to exploit the games we love and other players, cackling evilly in the background while they're at it. A new video has surfaced on YouTube showing precisely why APB: Reloaded devs are right in their determination to 'nerf' the big, bad dump truck. Check it out, especially if you need a laugh on a Monday.
The End of the Grief-Truck Era
In addition to major changes to spawning, upgrades, witnessing and so on for the first version of 1.5.0 - it's also very significant for a VERY specific reason. 1.5.0 will be the death of the grief-truck. Many have rightly pointed out that what causes the griefing is the fact that it's very difficult to tell the Physics system NOT to blow you up, since collisions between car and car are tricky to separate from car and house, or car and pole (and those two cases clearly SHOULD blow you up, presuming you were not being rammed in to the wall or pole using a grief-truck). However - Aphadon dug around in the darkest corners of the code, and put in place code that actually fixes the issue. Now, there are a few strange side effects from this fix (the grief-trucker will BOUNCE you off a wall instead of blowing you up), but it basically makes you NOT blow up when a non-opposing player smashes you into the wall (no such luck when it's an opposing player). How will this fix play out? Well I for one cannot wait to see it in 1.5.0 to see how people react to it!

Funny stuff, though I don't know what that April Fool's link had to do with nerfing the big, bad, dump truck.
Griefing should never be supported in any aspect. It is just another form of terroristic behavior at the cost of other gamers just trying to enjoy the game.
Agreed 100%. I'm surprised GamersFirst waited this long to fix a very big and annoying reason many people quit APB in the first place - Griefers. I'm glad to see they're doing something to fix it, but I honestly don't think this little band-aid will do anything except frustrate people more. Sure, your vehicle won't explode anymore, but it can still be pinned, rolled over, thrown, and so forth. Best solution is to just get rid of Dump Trucks all-together IMO..

While I don't like griefers, I couldn't help but laugh through that whole video. XD
I don't think this game will ever be without griefers. The game is basically designed perfectly for a griefer, even the theme of the game would attract someone more susceptible to that mentality. Thats why I will probably never buy the game.
have to agree with this completely .i don't like greiving but i laughed the whole time lol
I can't see what the problem is.
Aside from the trucks never turning over.
Big deal the dump trucks own face via crushing, many of those plays could of gotten out of the way if they paid attention. This is griefing? To me it's winning using what the devs gave you. A very large armored doom truck.
This "generation" of mmorpg players have no idea what griefing is; if this is griefing.
This generation of MMORPG players have no idea what it means to work cooperatively anymore as 90% of them seem to play for the sole purpose of being an anomymous pile of garbage. Good riddence to that monster. It would be like if baseball players started carrying the bat around with them as they ran the bases and knocking the teeth in of any player that tried to put them out. "whah, the bat is part of the game. i r just using wuts in teh game." "Games" have rules to ensure that all sides play fairly so that 'all' sides, let me repeat that 'ALL' sides enjoy the experience win OR lose. People that grief are not there to play the game. They are simply there to do everything they can to ruin the experience for others. Plain and simple.
Winning? Winning what? They aren't against eachother at all, for all the person in the dump truck could care you can be on the same team as him. When one person is doing a mission on his own time and some bored person decides to mess it up for absolutely no gain or credit, it's definitively griefing.
Obvious griefing. That said, like others in this thread I just couldnt keep myself from laughing. Hilarious. Altho I feel for the ppl involved ofc
@astropuyo maybe read some before you comment. generation this and generation that, tell me how were things in your generation ?
Duh... Winning! Everyone of those people in dump trucks were warlocks filled with tiger blood.
So this issue has been resolved for the most part in the current build. To those who may not understand what the big deal it, the big deal is that normally only players you are on an opposed mission can kill you. This issue allowed an outside force to kill you and hurt your mission.
The fix to this problem was a clever tweak to the physics engine. Unfortunately things like that cannot be rushed. So it took time to push live. Also, to be fair, we've had the game in closed beta for 7 weeks and in that time we've released 2 pretty size-able content patches and 12 bug patches. It isn't like we haven't been doing anything :P

you dont like griefing, you are just amused by it, got it.
"I'll never grow up, never grow up, never grow up! Not me!"
What can I say every game I have played has some type of griefing in it, and you can still push people around and push them into walls anyways and make them loose missions, or just annoy the hell out of everyone.
The real thing people should focus on is the ammount of players using hacks.
When I first played APB reloaded I was kickin everyones behind and then all of a sudden people from the original APB came into this game and were obviously using hacks just the same as release.
So yeah dump truck griefing was just a minor thin and will still go one like it or not you can still block roads off and have fun.
I actually might have started this exploit.
explain:
When the original APB was announced I was extremely excited by the concept of a GTA style sandbox mmo, so I did my best to be one of the firsts to get into the early closed beta, it was on the EU server. Even though the game looked nice the actual playable content was virtually inexistent, after the first 10 minutes, you had done it all. I voiced my opinion on the beta forums about how the game should add this and that to make it fun to play for more than 10 minutes. This as we all know was the reason why the original game failed so hard.
So because I was so bored with the content I started messing around to try and have some fun finding physics bugs, and it was then that I discovered that driving around on a truck just being disrupting to other people was BY FAR the most entertaining part of the game. So I started doing it to get my point across, that the game had NO CONTENT and this was the most fun you could have. In the process I reported lots of physics exploits and bugs during the beta. I kept doing this because it was a blast, but other people starting copying me and then it all got out of control. I still think that it's not griefing, because those players can actually shoot (or at least they could on the original APB) the truck and kill me in the process.
I'm not saying that I agree with griefers in general but in the specific case of APB I actually understand why they do it.
Honestly, I love this type of 'gameplay' about the game. It's a good thing G1 is taking action, but I had so much fun being griefed and griefing, it should be illegal anyway.
But still, so happy I can play again!
hahaha that was the best! cant wait to get back in on this 100 player fuck fest fast and feruios action!!
I honestly don't see what's so fun, or funny about this. Maybe if it was the point of the game & EVRYONE was doing it for points, or something. Like in the new Twisted Metal game coming out ... It would be fun there because that's the point. If you're just driving around being a dick ... then you're just a dick. Do it when everybody has a similar vehicle and vehicular weaponry and that would be cool. Chances sre however that the guy in this video won't be playing that because he'll get his ass kicked. He'll have to do it in a game where he can mess with people who are trying to do something else
I would have played if the game had more of stuff like that.
That was awesome.
no matter what anyone thinks about griefing(i personally hate it), you CANNOT sit thru this with a straigh face! in all it's insidious glory, this proves the sheer level of ease of griefing in this game. but? i have to say to the vid poster, you definately have shown why so many find entertainment in doing it.
