Join us LIVE from San Francisco on Thursday, April 28, 2011, starting at about 5:30 p.m. Pacific as we bring you LIVE coverage of this first "Marvel Universe" MMO event. Did we mention that we'll be there live? We'll have a live video stream of the entire event right here on Marvel.com (it will replace the video below) and we'll be taking your questions via Twitter, Facebook and the liveblog below once the action has begun. Always liked Marvel but thier universe seams to be too full of Mutants and lacking in other types of hero . Still as a game it may stand up but I'm betting it'll be too full of mutants too . Bring on a nice does of the sentinals I say .

i always prefered marvel to dc, i found it more magical, reading their comics compared to dc.

^ Sure Marvel has alot of mutants, but it has alot of everything really, Aliens, gamma iradiated heroes / villains, tech heroes, Gods like Thor etc, the list goes on, all kinds of diffrent races / hero types in marvel.

It wont be too full of mutants, it depends what story they will focus on but im betting the Avengers will get the main attention in the start, and there will prolly be a mutant exapsnion later on or something.

I just hope the Marvel MMO's explanation on how your character came into being is a lot better than DCUO's. DC's premise that your hero or villain only got their powers from an exobyte was nothing less than insulting. It was as if DC was saying "your character isn't good enough to be an established (albeit minor) part of the DC Universe" to the players.

YOUR CHARACTER!!!! funny you put it like that, you don't have a option for your own character, you play all marvel characters, no customization of your own.

I would choose MU anyday over DCUO.

I think it was a fairly decent way of explaining how people got their powers imo. But i hope that in MUO you can choose to have gotten your powers from like experiment or something, have tons of diffrent background storys you can choose for your char. Like getting bit by a spider, gamma irradiated or tech etc.

Interesting trivia, Champions Online was originally going to be Marvel Universe until Marvel pulled licensing for no apparent reason in mid-development.

I wonder what this game is going to turn into when Marvel pulls licensing for no reason again.

Reading the transcript...it's going to be F2P (6:02), aimed at the PC, and you'll play Marvel characters in memorable moments of the marvel universe (5:57).   They really harp on the whole "more playable characters than any previous Marvel game".   I've likened Champions Online to a Marvel Ultimate Alliance Online, but this is literally what it sounds like they're making......  They also mention that the game has been in development for a year now, but they won't talk about what technologies are involved.

"The panel did reveal that the game will take place in venues and timelines gleaned from the entire Marvel comic universe, in Bendis' words, "back from the classic era all the way to the modern," and that unlike other superhero-themed massively multiplayer games that require players to either create new characters from scratch or act as sidekicks to existing superheroes, Marvel Universe will let players play as the actual iconic Marvel characters they know and love. The panel rattled off only a handful of Marvel's iconic comic heroes that will appear as playable characters, such as Spider-Man, Captain America, Thor, Ion Man, and, as Bendis added jokingly--or at least, while laughing--the obscure hero known as Squirrel Girl."

    I think i'll pass.

Can't create my own hero? What's the point, then? I might as well play Ultimate Alliance and save myself the headache.

I make spreadsheets at work - I don't want to make them for the games I play.

So basically, we're getting a more grown-up version of their Super Hero Squad online game.  Considering its going F2P - I could see this working.  Doesn't sound like a MMO at all - more like a game built for multiplayer from the ground up.

Dibs on Squirrel Girl!!!!  Otherwise knows as the walking I WIN button image

Yeah, the game doesn't sound terribly exciting, an Ultimate Ultimate Alliance?

I guess that could be entertaining if it's F2P.

    This statement vexes me...

...because... the second "M" in "MMO" is...

    ...nevermind.

Hehe, I think it was more about not sounding very "massive".  The F2P aspect is going to be what helps us gloss over issues like the seeming lack of massiveness and not being able to create our own heroes.  It will be interesting to see how they handle multiple Squirrel Girls on a team, etc.  Or perhaps it will be more of a lobby and you have the equivalent of looting features (first come, then first pick or  highest roll).

Why cant they just make this a normal MMO and do like DCUO did, add some chars like batman etc playable in certain areas / battlegrounds etc, and rather do so we can make our own chars and work WITH Spider-man and the Avengers etc instead of playing as them all the time.

This game just sounds fucking lame now, too bad cause i was soo excited for awhile.

I don't like the  direction right now at all...

I'll wait for more information but... I don't want to play as wolverine or spiderman.  I want to play alongside them with my own hero.

The best part about superhero games is that you could create what you wanted to create, and start from just another person and then become this amazingly powerful hero.  Sure you had those that would mimick other heroes,  but they just lacked imagination.  If it turns out that I can't create a character based on my own ideas.. it won't matter if I like marvel more,  I don't think I'd be interested in playing the game.

*facepalm* And here I thought it couldn't get more ridiculous. I can already see... a guild solely made of Spidermen. >.<
