I was currious so I tried it and it was painfull. No joystick support and a bad control system too.
I gave it 10 min. if you include the 5 min. it took to setup my joystick. Disapointing because if the game had a better ui and flight control it might have a future as a cool space flight mmo seeing how Battlestar has plenty of deep space back story. Sad really.

"Tried it = painfull" - and nothing about the game? Only about you problems with a joystick?
This post might actually have had some value if it had any information in it. Not that one can expect to get any perspective in 10 minutes.
I really hope that *insert game name here* will be the first game to ever live up to all of its pre-release promises, maintain a manageable hype level and have a clean release. Just don't expect me to hold my breath.
My big issue with it is the control response to the keyboard. When on board the ship it seems fine but when flying around, there is a fairly large like 1-2 second delay before your ship moves in the direction you specified, and then you end up overshooting your target. It is possible to compensate for it with practice but they really need to make the keyboard more responsive before I will spend any more real time in the game.
I honestly dont expect much out of browser games.
I thought the game was decent.
Ill be messing with it while at work thats for sure.
Playing: Rift, LotRO
Waiting on: GW2, BP
Well I spent all of 30 minutes in the game. The game itself on board ships is ok. The movement is standards wasd movement that most games have. The npc interaction was well ok. I checked out the ship and various areas. I found the person to talk to about using the store (cash shop) to buy weapon upgrades, armor upgrades, and yes ammo and fuel for my viper.
Now lets talk space combat. The controls were bad. Honestly I ran though the tutorial several times before I just finally gave up. I played swg space combat was easy. I have played other flying based rpg games over the years including wing commander. The control system was like nothing I ever seen. Not even using the mouse could I get my viper to go the direction I needed it too. Docking was crazy as well, you had to get close enough then while trying to move around you had to hit d to dock except d is also a movement key and can send you away from your docking target.
The graphics were ok. Addama looked so fake as most of the npc's had that cheep pasty look. Space looked better.
All I got to say is I thought the game was a total waste of time, but don't take my word for it, go give it a try yourself. Then come back and let us know what you think.
It just did not do it for me.
I'd love to try it but the game won't launch for me. I login.. select a server.. and then it just puts me back at the mainpage and wants me to login again.
Tried everything on their forums about clearing caches etc.. even tried it on a second PC...
Oh well. didn't have much hope for a browser game but was giving it a shot due to the fact that it's BSG related.
All time classic MY NEW FAVORITE POST! (Keep laying those bricks)

Is still in beta, you may want to try again when it goes live. You can also try different browsers to see if that helps
I tried the game out for about an hour or so. It had a good concept but it was meh.
To buy new ships you need to either grind like crazy or use RL $ to purchase the coins that are required for the ships. Some ammo needs you to spend the cash shop currency as well.
There were no "skills" to speak of. You just buy a ship and can outfit it with whatever you feel you want. Each ship has different this and that.
layed it up to level 5. From what I have seen, new players are at a severe disadvantage. Some idiot decided that all the alpha and cb players were allowed to keep their ships, levels, items, etc.. So you have a bunch of fairly large and well outfitted ships running around with people in the level range of 25+. Now, the game is open pvp all the time, and you can find colonials or cylons or the third non playable entities all over the place.
As for what to do after the tutorial is a tad of a letdown. They seriously just tell you to go out there and mine, shoot, and do w/e you want with no real direction. No quests, no objectives (besides mining and killing the other side), and not much point. Without a group your a sitting duck for most of the populace, and even worse, if your a poor gamer who doesn't want to spend a dime, your gonna have a real hard time competing.
All the extra ships, best equipment, boosters etc, are all purchasable with cubits only. Cubits are the in-game currency that you have to buy to really get anywhere. Oh sure you can try to complete the list of assignments to do for a little amount of cubits, but since most everything above basic level requires some cubits to spend, your going to find yourself at a severe disadvantage really quickly.
The flying is also kind of slow, like flying through jelly. You do have skills you can train based on level and they "train" in real time. They give increases of 1% here or there and get longer and longer as you get higher levels. At level 3 I was at 2 1/2 hours of real time to train. Insane.
The game is clearly a cash sink. So unless you got money to burn, or dont mind mining asteroids all day long. This is one to avoid.
Never have and never will play a cash shop game. Maybe I am too old school in that regard, but the idea of having to spend money real time in order to buy some ammo is just silly to me. I know that I do pay $15 a month for most of the games I play, but it just feels right to me when I can pay that and have access to all the content, instead of tidbits of it.
Wish the game the best, the browser MMO idea is pretty cool, not for me though, and I LOVE space games.
There are a bundle of passive skills to train, but no active ones that i saw.
99% of most cash shop games are designed like the old arcade games in the 80's and 90's. Seriously, take one a play it on an emulator. You'll spend an insane amount of "quarters" as you get higher - they design the levels specifically for you to die. Only now, instead of quarters, they raised the fee to $1 - $5 per credit.
I was a little leary about this one. I tried it yesterday and after about 30 minutes was pretty frustrated with a couple of issues. One of those issues was the fact that when loading into new areas the browser part of the game itself seemed to hang. I was able to get it going by hitting the "refresh" button on the browser but it was not ideal.
Controls are "wasd" with other buttons for targeting and max/min speed and weapons arm/fire. Closest thing I could compare it to is Freespace in the ship combat/movement area.
There are areas where you can walk around inside the Galactica but those are pretty small. Also, you are limited to getting missions from a limited number of people on Galactica or fixing/purchasing/equipping your ship in the hangar.
Overall, for a browser game (compared to "Farmville" or "Yoville") it is a vast leap ahead of those. I too can not help but think that this game could have been really fleshed out had it gone a more traditional route. Time will tell if the game makes a mark or not.
Let's party like it is 1863!
It's a fun little game for a few hours, then it gets very old very fast.
You can either grind up (and i do mean grind) to the bigger stuff or....well....thats all there is to do atually.
If it was 100% free, like other browser games, then yes, it'd definitely be on my faves as it is a great job for a browser game.
Expresso gave me a Hearthstone beta key.....I'm so happy
Well, everyone complains about how bad STO is, and I for one can't get enough of the game. Both because it features one of my favorite series of all time, and second, cause I like the game's mechanics and graphics alone.
So I remain very irritated by people who make posts like
"OMG PPL DONT TRY THIS GAME OR U WILL REGRET IT FOR THE REST OF UR LIVE LOL OMG ROFL"
It just proves that those people do not have anything better to do than complain. It never occurred to these people that maybe they don't need to play the game, nobody will miss them, and few people who actually clicked the link here care about their revolution against the human imagination.
I'll try it, looks interesting.
?????? ?????
This game got potential. But what keeps me from logging back into this game after my 2 weeks of play is the lack of content as of how the game stands right now.
Only thing to do in this game is: mine, do repetitive daily missions, farm NPCs and PVP. It might work for some players but just doesnt cut it for me. If you find yourself looking for a quick fix in between lunch hours or doing spreadsheets then this browser game works pretty well.
But if you turn it into your "main mmo" of sorts, you would run a risk of burning out on this game very very quickly.
Try this game with simple expectations and not a promise of grandiose and you might just find yourself having fun for atleast a little while.
I wouldn't be at odds with the game if it were easier to get into the PvP groups.
I have gotten extremely lucky, at around 5 am, two days in a row I saw announced in chat, about needing the "Fleet" in a certain sector. I went to the sector mentioned and asked for an invite and for 20 minutes, enjoyed playing the game.
Unfortunately the groups can only be made up of 9 ppl, and it's rare that anyone is communicating anything, about where to go next, or even a heads up that they are going to blow you off, to give your spot to a line ship, which is understandable.
There needs to be a mechanic in game, to find and join,"The Fleet" on these operations.
20 minutes of enjoyment, on two seperate occasions, in ten LvLs, isn't really up to par, but, as long as it's free, I'll take it. Thats more a statement about how few games I find enjoyable, than it is about this game in particular.
Also somewhere I read that there can only be 25 ppl in a sector at one time. I think this number may be wrong, but I have been locked out of a sector and had to que for it, only to find it empty when I did get in.
When in a "Fleet" Ive seen the whole group jump out at once, without anyone saying a word, and then spent an hour trying to find them.
I would like to ask questions on their forums, but cannot post on them. That needs to change.
Would I spend a few bucks to get an escort ship? Yeah I guess so, I would generate more, just by not having to run from all but the smallest NPC's, and be able to kill a good portion of what I come across, (NPC wise).
Grinding doesnt generate enough to make meaningful upgrades, and forget about buying a decent ship before I just hang the game up all together. 3 - 6 months, probably of grinding to save enough for an escort and then a few months with that ship to get a line, maybe.
So yeah I can see getting buying 12 bucks worth of cubits, get the new escort, and grind in it for a month or two, then get a line ship. But I can't see spending more than that, not that they don't have a decent game, it's just, times are tuff.
I dont spend 14 bucks a months to play the game I like, because times are tuff, so I look to a free browser game. 12 bucks, one time? OK ...... one time. But Im a cheap Bastard , playing on a machine I built, and have less than three hundred bucks into, and internet is free, where I live.
Long time player here.
It may appear HARD to make cubits but it's not. Once you get a nice healthy mine and extract that planetoid for maximum effect? (Tit/Water IE) you sell that for the tillium needed.
Cubits come in waves. On two accounts *(my first being the one I refer here) I have a fine escort ship (Maul ADV maxed out) the basic maul took me...1 day to mine.
1 single day.
I had no tillium, I mined a toid, sold that water and had like 3x the amount of til needed.
Point is progression is not slow if you realize you are just doing it wrong.
Yep getting a toid all to ones self, of water, would do very nice. I just spent the twelve bucks, what Ive seen is , at the moment I put a mine down, Mauls spawn on it and I cant handle a lvl 15 maul in a raider, or couldnt at lvl ten, which fascilitated being in a group.
Today we had 2 water mines all to ourselves, group of 5 lines myself (escort) and couple other escorts. we were able to hold the system, and keep the NPCs off the mines. till they de spawned. I made 18k water, nice!
In short, I have my escort now, and am lvl 17, things have changed. I got into one of the bigger Guilds, and things are going as I had hoped.
They use Teamspeak, therefore I find the battles, and get invited. These two things made it possible for me, to really enjoy this game, now.
I think an in - game, feature or (mechanic) to join a " the fleet" or "A" fleet in a Battle, would address the two things I was at odds with.
I found my own sollution. I think the game would be better with a feature as I describe, for others, who have not found their own sollution.
Of course there is the possability of "flippers" exploiting that idea, so it may not be possible.
