Being given "stuff" {mod edit}

. . .for events or happenings that I didn't participate in isn't the reason why, after enjoying the journey to level 50, I unsubbed.  And missing out on free stuff won't encourage me to re-sub.  Im not saying that's the intention, but that's my jaded interpretation after receiving this email from Trion.

This issue I have in my mind of many mainstream themepark mmo's being less about community-centric, community-influenced, massively-multiplayer gaming and more about individual entitlements, easiness, and welfare just seems to be reinforced by this email I received from Trion.

Sure, I like to read and keep abreast of what the developers are doing, but please. . ."we wanted to make sure everyone got a chance to experience these rewards". . .even if you didn't play the game and participate, so everyone will "have a special Event Reward Pack in their mailbox!"; the epitome of the welfare state and dumbing-down of gaming imho.  And I dont like it. . .lol.

Sorry, if my opinion rubbed some of you the wrong-way, but I've got a bit of non-gaming free-time on my hands.  *mumbles: another solo-rpg masquerading as a mmorpg*

No - in all seriousness, I did enjoy the journey, and recommend this title, but the shallow redundant nature of Rifts end-game consisting of running the same dungeons over and over and the same 10v10 Warfronts over and over, as though it is a single-player lobby-system coop game, for the purpose of farming a purple item, aint for me.

that email isn't about trying to get you to re-sub, it's an apology for messing up the world event.  Basically, stage 2 of the world event lasted about 30 minutes, therefore a lot of people missed out on it and didn't get a chance to participate.  Trion sent out the gift bags as an apology, and so that people had a chance to get some loot from the event.

The mess up is actually worse than that.  TONS of people flooded the game when the event started and many found themselves in queues, only to finally be able to get in the game an hour later to find out the event was already over.

This most definitely wasn't about entitlement, but Trion responding to a huge messup in an effort to keep their brand strong.

This is how i feel as well. Endgame doesnt feel much like a persistant world anymore. Its just sitting in town waiting to find an instanced dungeon group or queueing up for warfronts. it really is no different than looking for a game to join in an online multiplayer game like battlefield 2 or starcraft. the world really has no life in it either. its just a place to find and kill quest mobs.

Most memorable games: AoC(Tryanny PvP), RIFT, GW, GW2, Ragnarok Online, Aion, FFXI, FFXIV, Secret World, League of Legends (Silver II rank)

Yes it was due to issues with the world event, but if you have played Rift you can understand why the OP thought this was another example of Rift Candy Store. The problem is that you are not going to get away from this; pointless achievments and titles are here to stay. In modern MMO's they seem to have level pegging with quests as to the importance of having them in game consistantly to end level.

So... what you do differently? Give some ideas. You'll gain more merit with your complaints if you give feedback as to what can be done to make things better. It's like complaining about the President when you didn't go vote at all... it's pointless.

And BTW... it's like this in every game MMORPG.

On a side note... I'm tired of people complaining about "Oh... all you do is this and this and this over and over". Show me a MMORPG where you're ALWAYS doing something different. Show me a developer who's able to push out content quick enough so that there's always something to be done. It's not going to happen.

Trion has least been pushing content much quicker than most, if not all, games. With 1.1 releasing a month after the realease of the game and 1.2 (which is adding a ton of new stuff to do)  being right around the corner... I'd say Trion is doing extremely well.

Just check out old school games like EQ, VG, SWG, etc, where you had tons of things to do at lvl cap, not just grinding dungeons.

Those games, with less technology and resources, managed to create more interesting worlds where players could set up their own cities, the economy was complex and dynamic, guilds would fight for the right to kill an overland non-instanced raid boss, the best items in game were crafted by players, etc etc etc.

I won't go into details, but really, if you want ideas I could flood this thread with a massive wall of text just by copying what other games were doing many years ago.

you got to feel a bit for trion they actually released patch 1.1 in good faith despite the fact most devs would have waited till after the free month .

they wanted a patch which balanced the classes and give people a fun event.in the end they had a patch which made classes even more unbalanced, broke a few souls along the way and gave a fustrating event .

by releasing it so close to the end of the free month i am sure they lost quite a lot of subs .but had it had its desired effect the opposite might have been true.

Its true awesome customer service. Sure they could have done it more personally but that would have been even more ridiculous. Imagine them trying to round up all the accounts and characters that were actually active for the event? Yeah right.

    Mad props to Trion.
