With the massive popularity of console systems, the PC Gaming World dies more and more each passing day.

WoW is one of the few entities that entice present and future players to buy a PC that's capable of 3D Gaming.

If it wasn't for the popularity of WoW, PC gaming would be on life-support.

You could argue that WoW is actually killing the PC gaming market because the people playing it aren't buying other games. It also has the knock on effect that developers aren't getting the sales from their games that they need to make better, pc-centric titles and have to rely more and more on cross-platform ports.

    Thanks WoW.

Honestly, I hate Farmville too, but to discount it and to say it is not a video game just beacause it does not appeal to you or your "hardcore" nature is closeminded and is what is hurting the industry. Anyoone who palys a game or GAMES, is called a Gamer. Casual, hardcore, stupid, or smart, regardless of who, they are gamers, and we as gamers should respect other types of gamers regardless of who or what.

Im sorry i have to dime in here.

1st off I know roughly 100 people into PC gamming most of which are into MMO's and not one of them plays WoW. Because only children with low IQ's play WoW and i really dont thik they have anything to do with PC gamming success...

2ndly you havent a clue about what people want from PC gamming i am building a new PC but not for WOW not for any MMO its for Skyrim and other stand alones comming out with all new Graffix Engines that make MMO's look like MUDS..

Just so we are clear little girls World of Warcraft is NOTHING anymore and quit trying to bring it back PLease just let it die.

I agree with the OP.  In the gaming stores the PC section has been virtually dead for years, only taking a couple small shelves.  There are only a few companies and game titles coming out each year that even make it worth the stores while to keep this shelf space open.

Blizzard is one of those titles.

Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it is bad.

I'm not that "hardcore"  the reason I say that those games are not included is because those games are played as an after thought. Its a very small percentage if any at all that have gone out and purchased a 3D gaming rig to play farmville or other like games, alot of those people who do not usually play other games would not have the PC needed to even be in the discussion unless they are planning to play games that have more of a production value. Closeminded? no man, thats just the real world, I didnt say people cant enjoy those games at all, have at it! but to consider them part of the PC gaming market is absurd.

...I don't want to sound prejudiced, but claiming playing Facebook games such as Farmville makes you a gamer is, no offense, an extremely loose defining of the term gamer...just my opinion, but that's like saying "I'm a gamer, because I play Fruit Ninja on my iPhone"... It's like driving a smart car really fast and claiming you're a racer.

    I think it is more:

    You drive a car, you're a driver.

You play video games, you're a gamer.

The fact you drive a shiny sports car that drives faster and handles better doesn't make you a driver. It's the fact it is a car.

So by your words to be a gamer it has to be 3d? Or they have to own expensive hardware? They are gamers, casual gamers, not PC gamers per se because those games can be played on tons of different platforms, but they are gamers.

Ok to address this, They are casual gamers, like mentioned above.

Driving a car fast does not equal racing a car, against time, or another person.

However, the act of playing a game is called gaming, and gamers game, casual or hardcore, in between or otherwise, no difference. It is gaming, and they are gamers.

That argument doesn't hold so much weight these days with the popularity of Steam and other digial distribution.

PC Games are just first to do what consoles will soon do them selves. They have gone Digital so dont think that just because they are not on shelves that they are not being made. There is a service on PC called STEAM. Dont know if you ever heard of it but you should read up on it and its not the only one of its kind.

Also is it just crazy to think that WoW has saved pc gaming. There are more people playing Free To Play games on PC then playing World Of Warcraft. You will be suprised at how many people play games like Maplestory.

Well done spot on.  Wow has shown that there is still a massive market out there for PC games, thus the reason we`re getting loads of MMORPGs coming out there days.   Although the wisdom of your statement will fall on deaf ears on this website.

Rather than face up to the truth people on this website would rather just live in lala land and call wow the spawn of the devil, when it’s in fact there saviour, exactly for the reason you mentioned.

With cheap online box prices and generally cheaper digitial copies there is a reason I haven't bought a PC game at a brick and mortar store for years now.

Forever looking for employment. Life is rather dull without it.

No they are not both racers.  But they are both drivers.

Anyone who plays a video game is a gamer, just like drivers that term can be split up (professional, race, casual, commute...) (for games - hardcore, MMO, pc, casual, officebreak...)

How? Racers perform the act of racing, against time, or another person(s). Games are played by gamers, I don't care if its solitaire, to discount someone because it is not your definition of a game is just wrong. They are playing a game, therefor they are a gamer.

There is no such thing as a loose definition here, they are playing a game, just like you does not matter what kind of game, therefor they are gaming, therefor they are gamers.

Driving fast is driving fast, racing against time or another person, is racing, there for they would be a racer. You are just seemingly not grasping a concept of someone playing something you hate, or look down upon as a game, and as gamers.

This is a really simple concept, I promise you.

Thank World of Warcraft for what?

    Thank Blizzard for what?

For making a huge profit by creating a easy cartoon MMO that most old time MMORPG Players rejected and as a result luring Investors with greedy intentions to this genre? Investors that later have ruined this genre with their ideas that we Players are just cattle to be milked and butchered? ... just like they have done to TV audiences, Movie fans, and those who purchase automobiles?

I wish Blizzard had never taken Warcraft and made a MMO out of it.

Due to Blizzard, the MMO genre has 100 times more players in it than is healthy, most of whom don't really know what a MMORPG is.

Oh... and by the way... I consider the word "Console" to be a four letter word.... this is a MMO website and there is no reason to use such foul language like that around here...

    (He TASKED Me...)

    ;)

I am the Player that wonders... "What the %#*& just happened?!"

No argument there.  I admit that the word gamer can be used to define anyone that plays any kind of game, but the line must be drawn somewhere.  Like I said, just my opinion.
