Pocket Legends: First Anniversary Interview

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

Pocket Legends is one of the most popular MMOs for mobile devices. Released just over a year ago, MMORPG.com Industry Relations Manager Garrett Fuller had the opportunity to sit down for a chat with Chief Vision Officer Cinco Barnes. The discussion centered around how Pocket Legends is doing and what developers foresee in the future. Check it out and then leave a couple of comments.

The ability to play from almost anywhere is great for people on the go. Do you ever track your users and where they are logging in from?

The game doesn’t use any sort of ‘location services’ and we do not track where players are logging in from. That said, lots of players want to talk about where they’re from (and it seems like they’re from ALL over the globe!).

PL is a fun dungeon-crawler. Gets a bit grindy for my likes but agree best thing about it is:

For me, personally, it’s the multi-stage combos. Well-coordinated player groups can now pull of three-stage combos (like the “PWND!” combo which requires an Archer’s ‘Armor Break’ followed by the Warrior’s ‘Crushing Blow,’ and then finally the Enchantress’ ‘Drain Life’ – which results in a big stone coffin dropping on your enemies and a huge damage wave that affects your targets). Characters each have combos that they can do solo. The more powerful ones are done by two characters. And these latest ones are the most powerful and require each of the classes to pull-off. I really love them!

It's addictive^ and the character designs; loot grabs are very "moreish".

    Roll on B*...

Its a fun game to kill a little time with and play here and there.

Its not an MMO that you would want to play like you would a normal PC mmo tho. If you expect that then your going to be let down.

Waiting for:EQ-Next, ArcheAge (not so much anymore)
    Now Playing: N/A
    Worst MMO: FFXIV
    Favorite MMO: FFXI

So you guys wrote another article on this iDevice game, which doesn't come close to Order and Chaos Online. Why have you guys not covered Order and Chaos? I hate Pocket Legends. I feel there is no point to the game.  Order and Chaos has little to in it as mmorpgs go, but at least it is a true mmorpg for the iDevice, not like Pocket Legends, which I just don't get.  Order and Chaos was released last week and has hit off well.  It could have a lot more, and it is litterally a WoW clone, except you can do more in WoW. The races totally look stolen too.  Sadly they didn't bother to copy the rich enviroments. There also seems to be no real dungeons and no pvp at this time. Please start covering the mmorpgs that come out for the iDevices.  There is another one coming out this year that has better graphics and more to do then Order and Chaos.

Give it time: PL has been out for 1Yr and has [had] over 3m a/c's; it's likely current user base is over 5-700k I'm guessing atm. I'm sure O&C will get a write-up if it continues to be popular? It's a polished mmobile for sure. Will be interesting to see if Gameloft provide strong support or otherwise going forward and how well they intgrate their servers/languages when Android hops on board later. As for PL you could go on about it being a mmog or corpg but that's tedious topic tbh. PL a year ago was a watershed in mmobiles (I'm sure this year O&C could be similarly compared?). Interesting discussions here:

Excited to see what STS has in store for their next project: B*.

Order and Chaos is a bland, cheap, rip off of world of warcraft created by a company that has not had a single original thought in any game they've created.

They also never update their apps. The devs move on pretty quick once a game is released and I would expect that to happen with Order and Chaos.

Pocket Legends, on the other hand, is an original game that can be played without fail on either my iphone or ipod touch. Sure its cutesy and cartoony but that is the game's charm. If i wanted a full fledged ORCZ N HOOMANS game I'd sit on my PC. Also, the devs update FREQUENTLY. We're talking little updates every other day practically. And if i want to pay a buck for a couple of pink cowboy hats for my characters then NO ONE CAN STOP ME.

Ya i never got into PL. I tried it but it just felt too tedius to me. Order and Chaos on the other hand is more of a "real" mmo that can be fun to play.
