Okay well today I installed the game and created an account. Right now I have 20 in fighting and 10 in crafting. I managed to get a good hold of the game and to join a guild. I have some decent gear and can solo pretty well. The graphics are bad at first but in time you realize that they really do fit later on. The sound is average and nothing out of the ordinary. Role play concept is pretty good IMO and the community seems to be extremely helpful. Skills system looks very good as well. Overall I would give this game an 8/10. Basically this is my new MMORPG until i find a better one.

I know this will probably urk many but I couldn't get past the kiddyish looking graphics of the game to ever really try it. I downloaded it just before release when it was free open beta or whatever that was they had and I felt the graphics were really subpar for current technology, which I can handle with a good game. However the character models to me were rather silly looking. I can't play a game I can't get some attachment for the character with.
However I hope you enjoy it and I hope the Ryzom players have SoR for many years to come!
Good gaming,

The graphics in ob were subpar. However, the graphics have improved massivly since then, I was looking through my old pics the other day and was shocked at how bad they are compared to today
May be worth trying the free trial again, especially if your GC can handle the finer details, its incredible

Do you have some pics for reference? I did not play back then to comment but now graphics look great. It may be that style is not for everyone. I like the style myself and its consistency across whole Atys.
I must admit that I was not particularly impressed when I first logged in trial. I guess it caught me later on after seeing some seasons, terrains and bigger mobs at mainland Compared to WoW graphics look like photorealistic and I consider WoW having kiddyish graphics
Yup give me a minute to find some
Edit:
Ok I couldn't find my stock of old ob1 screens I had the other day, but I had a old guild image hosting site with some on, I hope you can see this:

As for new ones, I dont have the ability to put on full graphics, as my card isnt good enough, but graphics etc did improve greatly since ob1 to release:

Hopefully someone has some better pics to show, I dont think I even had my graphics on high when I took that

Maybe Fadeous is talking about the Tryker race, they are very toony, anime'ish even, lol.
I would consider SoR graphic Stylish, not kiddyish. Each races have their own unique quality, with the Fyros being the most human looking one (and have the hottest female toons! ) So even with the races being new and not fit into any universe, within hours of playing you automatically recognize what race another toon is just by looking at it.
Check out some of these player submitted screenies if you haven't yet. Some of them are amazing.

I may have to give it a try in the future...

A pleasure for the eye. A decent and an exciting game. That is my first impresion to this game. And I think that I am right..
I think the art in SoR is superb. I've played all the majors, and whilst GW, EQ2 look really pretty, there's just something about Ryzom that really convinces me that I am in a unique world. I have a very beefy PC (3.2Ghz,1GB DDR2, GF6600GT yada yada) and I crank up all the graphic settings to max. It just looking stunning, and not an ounce of lag or rubberbanding. The thing that really strikes me is how the world just seems to be alive, with an ecosystem that does its own thing.
All this am I am still on newbie island. No rush to get to the mainland either, since I'm just coming to grips with all the skill trees and interface etc. At level 16 after 3-4 hours of play and will probably head off when I am in my mid twenties.
I've had enough to keep me occupies without even taking a single mission, so for me, at the moment it is superb.
Sorry but if you think the sound is ordinary you must not know that this is the only major game that offers SURROUND SOUND! Sorry your sound card cant make use of that but really it does. You can hear creatures behind you :P Sound is actually one of its finest features. On the graphics you're correct. They are a bit wierd at first but then you start to notice the detail and understand that you're in a totally foreign setting and it all just fits.
Make a difference!

Nice pics. I have screenies in Normal mode, I've seen them in the highest though and there is a big difference with a high end card. At any rate here's my screenshot dump:
