Organized guilds in Guild Wars 2 ?

gessekai332gessekai332 Member UncommonPosts: 861

After playing various mmorpgs, i discovered that different kinds of games spawn very different kind of guilds. In guild wars 1, there was little incentive to find a truly organized guild because PvE was not very competetive (no real gear grind except for cosmetic items) however there was an exception for PvP guilds, whose structure was more like a FPS type of guild/clan than an mmorpg guild. If you compare that to guilds in WoW/AoC/Rift etc, that incorporates some sort of tiered raid mechanics, then you get extremely organized PvE guilds that almost resembles a real job where you are "working" for gear instead of just wasting time and having fun. Then there are the casual guilds that you see in every game that arent very organized, dont really go anywhere but they are very friendly, relaxed, and are just there to enjoy the game- nothing to serious.

Maybe we will see all 3 types of guilds in the game? However, I cant really comprehend how a WoW type guild that revolves on DKP and scheduled repeated raiding of a few dungeons will work in a game that is mostly founded on exploration and true dynamic content.

Most memorable games: AoC(Tryanny PvP), RIFT, GW, GW2, Ragnarok Online, Aion, FFXI, FFXIV, Secret World, League of Legends (Silver II rank)

Well, guild alliances can be formed in Guild Wars 2 and that's all sorts of awesome, because that way you can have a bunch of loosely formed guilds, which aren't too caught up in being hardcore, and have them all allied, each guild still with its own leadership. This'd be handy when groups of people want to split apart, but they can still come together as an alliance when the need arises.

That was some great thinking there on ANet's part, I think.

But in GW the whole "alliance" was based on Kurzick/Luxon. How is that going to continue in Tyria only?

...common guilds working toward a common goal?   such as PvP or PvE   or just people who like to play together

OR Anet has a nifty explanation for this. I really hope so :D I really liked the whole alliance thing in GW and I'd be crushed if it didn't make it to GW2, has it been confirmed on any level?

EDIT: Oops, forgot my glasses at home. Didn't see Dream_Chasers post, nvm question then :P

There is also the race factor. Some guilds may be based only by the race of your characters. For instance, a guild leader may like to role play and say only Humans and Norn characters are allowed in my guild. So no one with any other race may join that guild. Now that there are more races diversity will become a factor.

Alliances could also be based off the three Orders:  The Order of Whispers, the Durmand Priory and the Vigil.  They compete, making alliances have some sort of meaning, yet share a common goal, which fits in with the story elements of the game.  There's also three of them, which is in keeping with the three faction/worlds model used in WvW PvP.

Never really liked alliances anyway.  I join guilds due to common interests and I find alliance members rarely share them, or if they do, it's very loosely.  I usually just end up muting the alliance channel rather than having to listen to all the extra spam.

One thing that's important to keep in mind: A lot of old knowledge about the three campaigns of Guild Wars 1 is now irrelevant, this is because there are now four other races. And every one of the other races could've had their own concepts of guild structure, which finally settled into a certain shape once the alliance of the races was in place, likely to help aid with inter-racial cooperation.
