The intrepid folks at mortalinfo.com have analyzed recent comments by the now famous Lord Henrik, CEO and Founder of StarVault. They specifically have found references to a hereto unnanounced task system as well as noteboards.

This task system sounds absolutely incredible!
Just another example of how incredible this expansion is going to be. There seems to be no end to the features which will hopefully shatter all expectations based on themepark expansions. There is a promise of further updates on this so I will be sure to monitor and will update as soon as possible!

So they are finally adding quests and bulletin boards to MO.....WOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOO
/sarcasm
Aren't quests in some form a given in this genre? Even most of the sandbox titles have them. This is just one more thing that should have been there at launch and wasn't.
Steam: Neph
I thought this went completely against the games design documents. Didnt they advertise on the website that MO would NOT have quests or anything like this?
I just checked their dev tracker.
Here is a quote from their CEO
"Task in Dawn is completely different, it's something I think most people will enjoy, new players will also have something to start out with doing some "jobs" for other players. It is of course also available/profitable for veterans that will benefit and may find this interesting.
This similar system exists in Eve online actually, a brilliant system we will expand on.:
So I guess it will be more along the lines of EVE's courier and contract board. So item hauling and perhaps a market type system based on buyer requests.
If this is the case then this is a more interesting system than "quests." However, I was responding to the OP's link earlier where the person writing that up stated:
"We can assume this is a system for ingame Tasks (basically an alternative name for Quest or Job), and since it comes with a UI, we can assume it will have Task Text (lore, flavor text maybe added in?), possibly tracking of progress, and more than a couple Tasks. To my knowledge there is only a couple tasks in game, including the newbie Mushroom Hunting task (if that really qualifies). If they’re adding a “system” and a UI, there must be multiple new Tasks being added into the game in Dawn or very soon after. I’m quite excited about this, as we can also assume Mats has a large part in this as well. We can only hope Henrik and the dev team have given Mats free reign to create complex and awesome tasks, and hopefully riddles, hidden tasks, new ingame lore, and so on."
That made me think of the standard quest system we see in every other MMO ever made. You would think that running the mortal info site he would have read the quote you posted from Henrik before and not made the conclusions that he did.
Also this is from an IRC recently:
"<@BlackOpal> Well, Starvault has been working on a courrier system for Dawn
<@BlackOpal> So essentialy think EvE style transport contracts"
So is the courier system part of the larger task system? Like transport contracts would be one of a variety of assigned player tasks?
@Slapshot - I couldn't tell if you are being sarcastic or not as all the posts I've ever read by you tend to be anti-MO/MO reality (a buggy mess). I am surprised you even care.
Steam: Neph
More updates from Lord Henrik here:
It's coming in Dawn.
Player will have a new interface to add requests/tasks for other players to accept for a fee, tax is included in this sytem. When the task been delivered the payment gets paid. This is it in short, we will go through it more in detail later on, I think Opal will go through it. So for instance you can see someone requesting resources in a city that is far from that resource, if you happend to have the transport mounts for it and you are going near that location you may wanna accept that task as well. It can be used in a few different ways.

As he said in the earlier quote. Is is going to take the EVE system to a whole new level. I cannot wait.. I am so tired of sandbox quests! I want somethng new and refreshing and groundbreaking! DAWN sounds like just the ticket!

It's actually a case of 2 seperate posts. The link that OP posted seems to have taken a post by the CEO with the word tasks and speculated as to what it meant. The post I quoted was said an hour after the first identifying the "player made tasks".
Honestly, I think anything other than "EVE like contracts" would be more speculation.
Sounds like a decent feature to add. Hopefully its not dumbed down too much.
Edit: It seems Slapshot1188 just confirmed it. Thanks.
Sorry to bug you again Slapshot, but last I read you went back and did the Mortal trial and didn't appear to enjoy it at all. What makes you think Dawn is going to be any different than the absolute terrible mess the SV team has spewed out in the past? I gotta say, I wouldn't get my hopes up. The best predictor of future behavior is past behavior.
If you know or see something I don't feel free to share, but this sounds like typical SV pie in the sky talk with a failure to deliver and a lot of excuses waiting around the corner.
Steam: Neph
I am looking forward to trying the game again when the free DAWN expansion hits. I will hapilly document my trial again for all to see.I cannot wait to experience the cornucopia of groundbreaking features promised. If they can actually deliver on it... just imagine taking EvEs system and making it even better! And we have been promised "no more placeholder" systems.. so I am quite optimistic that everything will be thoroughly tested and fully functional!

LOL.. They actually said that?
Can I get the quote for that one please?
I see what you're saying and I have to agree that if they pull it off the system would be awesome. In fact if it weren't for all the bugs and nonsense MO would be the great game that it is on paper and in Henrik's and all the players' minds. I guess I just can't believe them anymore after they have failed to deliver on anything as far as I can tell. I'll gladly jump back in with another trial myself though when Dawn launches and check things out.
Steam: Neph
EVE calls it missions, and as far as I know, the developers of EVE still relate their "missions" to "quests" of WOW.
So call it another name, it's still a quest system.
Did you even read through the thread? O.o
I just recently re-subbed to see how things have progressed after about 7 months away. I have to admit, MO has come a LOOONG way since then. The game was almost completely unplayable in beta and after for a few months, but now it is actually starting to feel like a game... and a good sandbox game at that.
in which ways do you like it so far?
Can't lie, I just did the same thing, and similar impressions...it feels like an actual game now...now they just need to fill it with the rest of the sand. And hopefully dawn does this to some extent, task
- despite the op's apparent sarcasm.... -
may not be revolutionary but its needed.Breeding will add a lot for tamers, cooking will be another crafting proffession, will add importance to fishing ect...
If they pull it off, just don't be dissapointed if it takes a month or two after the expansion for it to settle down. And even then, their is still problems that are pretty obvious, and lapses in consistency throughout the game because it just isn't finished yet. But, like i said, it does feel like an actual game now. Especially with the addition of players actually appearing where they are..(imagine that.)
Slapshot, I'm really confused about the over the top enthusiasm you have been showing for this game. You really, really didn't like the developers or the game previously and made that well known.
For those who have followed the forums it's easy to see the humor in your over the top enthusiastic comments. However, I think people who are reading for the first time will truly think you are optimistic and supportive of MO. Thus, these people will be setup for future disappointment when the hype you are helping generate doesn't meet expectations ...
Oh wait ... I see what you did there ...
Welcome to the thread!
He who keeps his cool best wins.
Basically after the Dawn expansion MortalOnline is going to much more like a a phantasy based Eve Online.
Never trust a screenshot or a youtube video without a version stamp!
Took ya long enough =]
You sure can. It's from Lord Henrik's DAWN Interview:
These are no placeholders we worked hard and for quite some time now to get these features in the game fully working, these systems also open up other areas we mentioned a long time ago.
http://www.mortalonline.com/forums/60630-dawn-expansion-interview.html
FInally! Fully Functional Systems on release day! Now THAT is what I have been waiting for!

tho, he ment in dawn. So thats kinda admitting many of feauters today are placeholders. But i really think the task system together with the mail system will bring something to the game if done right. mabey even the ingame turotial coming could give you a couple of tasks to get you going. Also, they need a system where you for exampel can ask guards where you can find specific books and other stuff you may be looking for. Sure there are usually players who can help but it's these kinds of stuff that make people quickly turn away from this game.
Whatever you say this game will need casual players too if it not only wants to survive but also grow into something bigger. Dawn seems like a good place to start. I hope after this they will lay off creating new proffessions and skills and try to make the ones that exist more "fluid". Like actually beaing able to create hundres of dirrfrent weapons and armors that would actually be valuable in their own way. They could start by implening everything UI into flash while trying to fill the world with those epic questlines for guilds they said would be in from day 1. There are so much potential in the world of nave and it kind of sad when you see these epic teasers for a epic lore. because the game really have great potential to actually implent a real lore into the game. Im just afraid its to late.
I hope there will be alot of suprises comming with dawn and i dont mind waiting untill the end of this month to play it. They actually said that all the featurers are "set in stone and where just testing and tweaking them now". this give me hope of a smooth realse of this expansion and im really ancious to get back into the world of nave with it.
Why are people getting interested in this Dawn expansion?
Does anyone really think that it will be anything other than a total mess? Just look at all the other patches when they release.
I did think mortal online really could be the best game out there, like the Darkfall we were all waiting for but never got delivered but every time Henrik over sells some new feature it just does not work out.
Don't get over excited about Dawn it will be a buggy mess but with some really excellent ideas in it. Same as the rest of the game really.
THIS time we have been assured by Lord Henrik that these are not placeholder systems and that it has all been tested and is working. This was confired recently by the Community Manager:

In regards to Hype, we have been very careful not to release something that wasn't already within the game and working bug free. So the Gene System, Cooking and Graveyards are all there and working, the screenshots also show that there are improvements to the client on the back end, allowing for greater draw distance on houses, objects and keeps.

So.. it appears that they are confident that they will be able to deliver a fully functional, feature complete expansion that is bug free! Exciting times indeed!

Actually, as a direct comparison, EvE calls them Contracts. The system they are implementing with Dawn are player created tasks, not NPC given missions.
