Hey guys, i dont know if i should have left this post here, but i figured more people watch out for the general chat. im very exctied for tera, but what i cant figure out is, since ull be moving the 'crosshair' with your mouse how will you choose the 'spell' for example. do you have to map the whole keyboard?
Comments
From what I know of this game, you won't have to mape the whole keyboard, as there is likely to be a limit on skill numbers. Remember, this game is being designed to play with a console contoller (last time I checked), and I even got to try it out on an X-box controller at PAX prim last year (man that was a long time ago.
Also, in most MMOs I have played, you get laughed at if you admit to using your mouse to activate skills, and in TERA, the crosshairs will prevent players from using the mouse to click on skills. You will be able to show your mouse when your menues are open though.
The movement controls are standard WASD and a button used to dodge or block depending on class (you map the skill where you want to of course).
All in all, its controls (when I last checked almost a year ago) were pretty good and made for fun gameplay (though I am not going to say its my favorite. My fav gameplay is GW2.)
I used to TL;DR, but then I took a bullet point to the footnote.
your mouse is your aimer, you hold both mouse buttons to run forward, you used Q and E to strafe (i actually bound them to the mouse shoulder buttons so i pretty much moved and aimed only with the mouse).
you definately cannot mouse click your abilites in this game , they are all keybound.
it's really smooth and easy to pick up. the only thing i didnt like was the fact that they use animations as global cooldowns, so during the skill animation (1/2 seconds) your character is "frozen" in place and can't be moved. everything else it's very cool.
that made me laugh. There is actually a high school heirarchy with mmos
"psst, he uses his mouse to activate skills."
"dam, what a loser"
"I know, he's a dork"
LOL
To the caterpillar it is the end of the world, to the master, it is a butterfly.
yeah it's as he said.
im having so much fun but sometimes happen that i use the wrong skill, since i have to keep moving and aim, anyway it feel more like a game
< Thank god I am atheist
I'm starting to think that I'm the only one who likes this.
It becomes a choice. Do I stop and risk being in one place but use an important skill or do I use more immediate skills but miss out on, say, large damage.

my first (non rune scape) MMO was GW1, so actually I hadn't even noticed. Honestly, seeing all your skills go dark for a short period of time after each skill activation like in WoW (global cooldown) is a lot more annoying.
Oh, and I would just like to say that I WON'T be playing TERA, but my reasons have NOTHING to do with the combat gameplay.

Don't tell me Tera, a tps, uses ANIMATION LOCKS!!!!!!
Wtf!? I knew it was a eastern mmo but with the gps control I figured they would drop the traditional animation locks that most eastern MMORPG have.
This just turned me off from tera a lot.
Philosophy of MMO Game Design
I like it too Sovrath, Making amination count for something and not just fluff is a big plus for me. Besides lowering CD's on skills by using glyphs or having attack speed on gear will increase animation speed so it's not like your locked in a certain speed throughout the game.

so...wait. You can't handle an eastern MMO being like other eastern MMOs?
I used to TL;DR, but then I took a bullet point to the footnote.
Animations can be canceled and they can be decreased via glyphs or attack speed stat's on gear.
