I don't even have to get into any minor details here, just look at the server status on the Aion website and see for yourself. ( http://na.aiononline.com/about-aion/servers ). All servers are Elyos dominated.
As result of the Faction VS Faction game design, the players favored one race (Elyos) while leaving the other race race (Asmodians) completely left out, nobody ever creates an Asmodian, actualy people only make an Asmodian when the game doesn't let you create an Elyos in an effort to make the game servers more balanced. Of course that didn't work.
Even with the block of new "Elyos characters" creation the game is extremely unbalanced. Asmodians don't stand a chance on sieges, world pvp and warfronts, on ANY server.
Bottonline is, if you want to play Aion, don't ever make an Asmodian, it'll save you a lot of frustation. It's a shame, if it wasn't for the failed game design of Faction VS Faction, if it was simply the standard legions vs legions format, this game would have been much more fun, and balanced.

Shame they never solved this, my son enjoyed playing Aion, but this imbalance on his server ultimately drove him from the game.

You should try the VIzel server, it has a heaver Asmo population. They are migrating now to other servers, at one point Vizel was almost 5 to 1 in the asmo favor. I moved my Ely toon off that server and created asmos.
A fight where I might win or loose? That's PvP. Ganked or being ganked is not PvP.
Worst of all is that this is a new tendency of new MMORPG's. Rift, wich is like 2 months old, already suffers from the same faction unbalance issue, the players have already choosen one of the factions as favorite (the good guys, just for a change).
The only difference is that in Rift you get to choose if you want a PVP server or not, and in Aion you get ganked from level 20 to 55, in any map, at anytime, may you like it or not.
for a while there israphel was pretty well balanced and actually favored asmos after they merged servers.
I havnt played the game for a while so I dont know whats going on but it looks like for a while now the server has been in the hands of the elyos and the asmos are thinning out.
I think whats most strange about the link you posted is that for the longest time the elyos do hold the abyss on almost every server, however if you look at the actual race ratio all the servers are split right down the middle with the balance only being off by one or two percent across all servers and theyre not all favored by elyos.
so, this is really strange and Im not sure how to explain it but it can go a few ways.
The biggest reason for the elyos bias is that the games mechanics when a race dominates, theyre power increases exponentially. The more they hold power, the stronger they get and its pretty rapid. Even if the other side wins occassionally, once the snowball starts rolling its almost impossible to reverse it unless you have a long period of inactivity of the other side. Most players dont want to be on the losing side, so theres also been a lot of people who are dedicated to the game playing on the winning side which compounds the races strength
Or, the race ratio displayed isnt accurate to the people who are logging in day to day and actually playing the game, but it actually displaying the characters created on the server throughout its lifespan which means jack if a large percentage of these no longer play. Which would mean that, ya you had a lot of people initially role asmo but either quit playing or went to the elyos side once they started losing the abyss.
Or, its a combination of both the above..
at any rate, ya the balance is hosed majorly and as an asmo player (when I do play) even I cant blame newbies for rolling on the elyos side. You're not going to accomplish much as an asmo and nobody really knows how to fix the situation. In fact, theres no word from NCSoft for anything that will ever address this in any forthecoming patch.
Its all in the poor design and the rewards given to dominating races. The elyos remind me of the images of Conan sitting on his throne completely bored after he has ruled the world.
not totally true i'm afraid. lots of asmo on telemachus.
Funny...that is EXACTLY why you should choose to play asmodians. Sure you are out numbered, but the fact of the matter is, it makes it super quick and easy to get your abyss points when you rift. Killing roughly 5-10 people when they least expect it can generally get you around 1k-4k Abyss points. Your 1 death = 50 - 300 abyss points loss. So your gaining way more points then you're losing. If you want the PvP gear and AP stigmas fast, this is the best way to do it.
Just looking at EU's status and ya it does appear a lot more balanced there for whatever reason. Not only more balanced in the abyss but two servers favor the asmos.
The racial balance seems to be the same as the NA also. I think im leaning more towards that what theyre displaying as racial balance isnt the displaying the people who are playing day to day but its more a ratio of all characters created on the servers.
Im also starting to think its a personality issue in NA being that most players in this region want to win.. simple as that and wont think twice about dismissing a side thats not producing. Hence, the topic of this thread.
If people start the game and pick Asmodean then it will help to bolster those numbers.
In any case I re-upped last night so that's one more Asmodean to the bucket.

I'm asmodian in Isaphel. We're elyos heavy but we still can win siege alot if we wanted to. The thing is not everyone join siege...thats the real problem.
well, I guess this might be a reason to roll asmodian
Funny at release everyone played Asmodian expect good pvpers went already at that time elyos. Dunno what happend afterwards but looks like elyos won and its even more funny that in korea it s the other way last time i checked asmos were owning.
I remember a lot of people claiming that asmodians were over populated but I played Aion since its beta stages and it was very obvious that everyone was rolling elyos.
I think it made the people who were playing elyos feel better to think they were out numbered, but this was never the case on nearly all the servers.
well if it is as you say it should be incredibly funner to be a Asmodian because you'll have lots of enemies to kill. Elyos got nobody to kill.
Im speaking for EU Region and the beginning asmo clearly outnumbered elyos. I played just the first 3 months. Im now back and it looks slighty in favor of elyos on my server.
gotcha
ya you guys actually have 2 servers that seem to favor asmos which rocks. Im not sure what the NA attraction to the elyos is to be honest.
Race balance in Aion is screwed up because of american perceptions. There is no race imbalance in Korea, because the game was made for Koreans. Aion without any doubt is an ultra bad ass game, however I don't feel it's compatable with American culture. Americans tend to want to be the good guys 90% of the time. In a Light vs Dark war, most Americans choose light. This will forever be a problem for US servers.
I think by now though the wow population that can't stand any game harder than wow has finally been mostly purged from the servers. So the people the really care about the game still remain. I forsee future server merges just from dwindling populations, however I think by the time Aion merges down to 1 final server like Lineage 2 it will be well balanced and well populated. We'll see what happens. I'll continue to enjoy Aion, however I don't look at it as a PVP game, just PVE, at least if I can find enough people to form an intsance group with.
I'm not sure that's true but I feel there is a truth in there somehwere.
Technically the Asmos aren't the bad guys. However, I can see why they are seen as 'the bad guys'.
Truth be told I play asmo but would rather play Elyos. A good part of that is that I just prefer the aesthetic of the Elyos realm. Is that because I'm from the U.S. and somehow I am predisposed to "the light"? I don't know. My knee jerk reaction is to say "no" but I'm not totally sure on that. Who knows, maybe you are right.
In any case, I play asmo because my game friends (*shakes fist damn them*) wanted to play Asmo and I missed playing with them.

Didn't they add the third NPC faction as a "balance" faction, that will always "side" with the weaker of the user played factions? I thought that was the whole reason for the Balaur. Still, this is a good example of why having TWO factions is a bad idea. Either no factions or more than two so you can have alliances to balance things out.
You are absolutely correct. I don't know what happened to that and why it doesn't work.

Yes, but the 3 faction thing doesn't work unless all 3 factions are player run. NPCs can't come help the losing faction cap their own fort. etc..
These bloomin server transfers muck everything aswell. ncsoft offering the cry babies a easy way out, rather than making them fight for something for a change.
Know would be a good time to make Asmodian. If you have a lvl 10 + asmo after the 25th when 2.5 is released, you will get many +50% xp increase items and other goodies. + extra avents for asmos to lvl and gain xp / Ap.
Pretty unfair i think, die to the fact lots of elyos have left telemachus and know were over run with asmos! cant win lol.
Owe well the fight continues
The problem from day one was people (teenagers mostly I suspect) ruining the sense of community. Rifting over wasn't a means of having fun, challenging and good spirited early level pvp, it was a chance for twinks to grief lowbies trying to level up over and over and over again (on my server there were players who would do this for hours on end practically everynight ruining people's only time to do anything after work).
When everyone has left and there's 1 server and 200 people tops online at peak hours in the end game zone, and 90% of those people online are PvEing and not PvPing, you can thank the community for it. Sure, Aion's fail pvp system (no punishment for ganking lowbies and a lack of a karma system) contributed, but if the players properly policed themselves it wouldn't have turned into the shitfest it did. People just don't have respect for others in America, which is exactly the opposite of Korean culture.
There are two different types of players in MMO. PVE and PVP. In aion, the ratio is 40% PVP 60% PVE. Almost the entire hardcore PVP crowd from L2 have long since transfered and quit Aion as it's hard to compare Aion PVP system with L2's completely open PVP system. I think some PVP centric players find it a fair balance. While I think most of the PVE community could care less about getting ganked period and would rather just have enough people on the server to form an instance group in a realistic amount of time.
Yeah at launch it was a awsome game.. Still my fondest MMO launch.. I remember when the bulk of the server was around lvl 25-30 and we first started figthing over fortress'.. 100's of elyos and asmos zerg festing.. Sure it lagged but it was great.. I remember walking into the abyss and finding like 200 people piled up at teleport shards battleing it out.. Huge population..
Then 3-4 months later it was a ghost town.. I had given up cuz of miragents.. But on our server elyos (my side) just steam rolled asmos and it became a "chore" to babysit our forts because no opposition would EVER show lol.. Fort raids were my favorite thing about AION too.. IMO the game should've launched with 3 races or NC Soft should do something about adding another faction soon.. Possibley the balaur?
