It may be a little unfair to pit Perpetuum agaisnt Eve since Perpetuum is still very new and hasn't had time to go through it's teething stages and that Eve fans are numerous and occasionally fanatical. That said, since these games are so similar and since I haven't played it since beta, how are people rating Perpetuum in comparison to Eve?
Comments
I personally found perpetuum to really lack in content and polish and it just seems like a half done game whereas Eve has everything nicely done with a great foundation but again Eve has been released for years but ye at this time I wouldn't suggest perpetumm to anyone.
It's much like rating a high-school running-back against a professional. EVE has 7+ years under their belt, but my understanding is the client is free to download, and sub is $10/month. A steal for a little entertainment and look-see at an indie if you ask me. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Perpetuum has been out for 1 day. EvE has had years to add content and polish. I think it's unfair to compare the amount of content and polish between a game that is not even 2 days old to a game that's been out for years and has seen several expansion patches. It's like what the guy above says, comparing a good HS RB to a NFL RB, it's just unfair.
With that said, Perpetuum has a very solid foundation - this game has massive potential. If you like PvP, you'll love Perpetuum. If you like to craft, you'll love the industry side of Perpetuum. As time goes by, you'll see more content and more polish, there's no doubt about that.
meh, the games are so similar that perpetuum is like a fresh eve server. good stuff.
There are some relevant replies in the following thread http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/post/3930326/Holy-eve-clone-batman.html#3930326 that I thought someone who might be reading this thread might find interesting.
I'm starting up Perp Online today. I'm hoping it's what I'm looking for. Haven't found anything to "hook" me with any kind of freedom of sorts since UO. The longest I played an MMO after UO was DaoC and I think that was only for like 4-5 months (wish I stuck with it now though).
I will only say the game wasn't for me, what I find intresting to know though would be what is it excactly that people feel it's like EVE. Is it just the UI or just the not being human? instead of a spaceship your now some sort of robot/mech?
I do hope the game does well and entertains many gamers, but I just couldn't get a feel of enjoyement from it.
I say at least give this game two years before you start comparing it to EVE. Althought it has some similar mechanics i just can't yet say it's like EVE just yet.
I don't understand why perp decided to clone eve's terribly boring combat system.

Boring is in the eye of the beholder, 330K EVE subs disagree with you apparently.

its because they want a piece of the RMT trade just like CCP does....
I don't understand why some people think that if they find something 'boring', it must be boring for everyone else...
gonna be fun to see how much an eve sub costs since ccp HQ is gonna leave iceland....the servers are in the UK but thts not necessarily a good thing because of all the things happening over there.... new laws are going to affect internet travel among other things and ccp has a CRAPLOAD of cash in developing DUST...
Then again private company...one reason why i sold my 63m with assets locally for 800$ )))))))))))))
Someone does a compare eve v a game that's actually similar!
Anyway this new game is only a few days old so it's a bit early to compare is it not? As for the game itself I think it will do well as long as they keep things going development wise.
Another great example of Moore's Law. Give people access to that much space (developers and users alike) and they'll find uses for it that you can never imagine. "640K ought to be enough for anybody" - Bill Gates 1981
I don't understand how someone's personal opinion is interpreted to mean all people share said opinion.
I only played the very beginning, and felt it was just too much like EVE. I like EVE, but was hoping this game would be more than a second-rate rip of EVE components, reskinned with a mech theme. Some of it doesn't even work as well with mechs as it does with ships, but the devs seem almost indescriminate in thier shameless imitation.
Like I said, I only played the beginning, so maybe I'm way off. I'd love to hear how this game differentiates itself from EVE, but also just want to say, if they're just trying to help EVE players feel familiar with the game early on, before throwing all sorts of new and different mechanics into the mix, I think they go too far. The cheap clone feel makes for a really bad first impression.
edit: doh, just noticed this thread was a necro from 2010...
When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.
weird.. don't really understand why people think this game is like Eve.. thought it was boring tbh
I bought Perpetum, i tried it, when i saw how mining was, in quit and never looked back. It was absurdly complicated. What i mean is, it was made complicated just "because". Eve has a meaning to everything that's in the game, it has logic, while what i saw in Perpetuum, and i saw only mining, OK?, didn't.

Chess bores some people, football bores some people. It's whatever floats your boat.
When I played the Beta, Mining was the most boring occupation ever. The real money, in the early days, is in combat and salvage. Personally I wouldn't mine in Perp or Eve for fun.
I thought perp was a good honest try from a dedicated group of new developers.
Sure, it isn't a AAA MMO and it's lacking content. But for a small group of developers to do that? Pretty amazing. Especially since it had fewer bugs then your average AAA release.
I hope that either Perp expands and gets enough content to stand on it's own, the devs take what they've learned and bring it to a new project if Perp doesn't survive or they get hired by the industry.
