Hi!
Total newb question here. In fact, I have never played the game but im considering it,
but one question;
I know that players can have their own ''Astral Ships'' built in this game, and than they can use these ships to travel and fight?
I was wondering IF players ARE FORCED to group up in order to ''operate'' these ships, OR would a single player(the owner of the ship) be enough to commandeer the ship? (Automated/or maybe with the help of NPCs or something like that)
-OFCOURSE this is an MMO and i would like to make friends in game, and crew a ship TOGETHER with them(Man the battle stations!), but i do not like the idea OF BEING FORCED to group every time i wanna travel OR battle ship-to-ship.
Thats why im asking it here.
Does grouping just INCREASE THE EFFICIENCY of your ship, OR is it allready forced to have a group to commandeer a ship AT ALL to begin with?
Thank you very much for your time.
PS!!
I know there must be a lot more going on in this game than just ''ships'' BUT their pictures are all-over the official game web-page, and the game is really ''advertising'' the astral ship functions, thats why i got so enticed by it to ask about it here.

You need different people to operate different parts of the ships (engines, navigation, guns, ...). You might be able to leave the hagar and fly somewhere solo, but as soon as you need to man the guns you're going to get destroyed. So in practice you can't solo the astral.
Waiting for Guild Wars 2, and maybe SWTOR until that time...
Well, that settles it, thank you for the timely explanation:)
Would be really stupid to have it so you can fly this massive astral ship into war on your own in my opinion so I like it as it is
The crew is only 6 people (including you) which is never hard to find cause astral missions are excellent
Really?
Than;
-What about Eve Online where you can command MASSIVE SHIPS on your own?
-What about Pirates of the Burning Sea in which you got a visible NPC crew on your ship's deck as you as you issue ''commands'' to them, BUT in the end it is YOU who are the SOLE CAPTAIN/PLAYER of the ship, capable of steering the vessel and battling without FORCED help from other players?
-What about Star Trek Online where you get to customize AND commandeer your own NPC crew in order to maximize your ship's efficiency etc...?
SURELY, you would agree with me that most of the ships that the players command in EVE, POTBS or STO are HUGE, ''ginormous'' vessels, AND YET, all it takes is ONE* player to control them.
-What about Battlestar Galactica Online, in this game u start out with single-seater fighters, ALAS you can move on to MASSIVE CAPITAL SHIPS, if you want to, AND ''pilot'' them on your own without other peoples help.
-What about Pirate Galaxy, where IMO ships scale from small fighters to heavyier gunboats/support ships, AND even the larger ships are commandeered by a single player.
-What about Dark Orbit, there are supposedly some larger ships there to command as well, but i never heard of em requiring more than one player to control,
-Deepolis? These subs need more than a single player to command.
-Do you think that ALL THOSE GAMES MENTIONED ABOVE are stupid, since they have you fly massive ships on your own to war?
Because even if you do=
This game (Allods) is an MMO, and thus, OFCOURSE i would love to be the captain of a ship, crewed by real-life people/players!
BUT i would also like to have a ''backup plan / or Plan B'', where IF* my friends are not online, and nobody wants to be a crewmember of my ship at the moment, i can go use the ship on my own.
As;
IF you think that it makes sense to be able to man a massive astral ship WITH JUST 5-6 PEOPLE, i think even that sounds kinda stup...wrong,, Wouldnt such a large ship require a crew of at least 20 to 200 people or so? Im NOT SURE of the actual numbers,(AS the ship in question is not real-but fantasy) YET surely a massive astral ship such as the one that you mentioned above would need more than just 5 people to operate... IMO
PS
The reason that i made this long post is because i think the topic at hand touches NOT ONLY Allods, but at large any MMO out there or to come that includes ships/vehicles etc.... Cheers)
anyway yeah i think all those mmorpgs are stupid for letting you be a one man crew
and i think six is a good for an online community based game to use for allods astral quests
Here is a quote from the end of my post:
''PS

I was not angry, but rather enthusiastic in my reply. The reason stands above^^
Also you said:yeah i think all those mmorpgs are stupid for letting you be a one man crew
You meant that a one man crew in an MMO does not make sense, BUT a ONE-MAN-ARMY makes sense instead? (A single high level player can lay waste to ENTIRE LOWER LEVEL ''armies/NPCs'' in an MMORPG.
I firmly beleive it would have been better to have the OPTION of being able to command your ship on your own when other players are not available to help you. It is not available in game, and IMO its a shame, but there is nothing i can do about it.
It is my right to wish it, just as it is your right to call stupid to any game that does not abide by your views
But unlike you, I do not think that; Allods is a ''stupid game'' for missing a feature I like or having one that i dont like.....
-I had finished discussing this issue above when i had received a reply to my original question (I dont think i have to quote my ''thanks post'' for the answer above)
But your input picked my interest, thus the entusiastic reply you got.
Have a glorious day.
