jackwu10jackwu10 Member Posts: 127

hey guys..

is there any rpg that is combination of dragon age game play stayle + fallout/oblivion world map/freedom?

so far i can only think of sacred but i got it already..

i wanna play something that i can do whatever i want, like in fallout/oblivion world, (where i can travel, unlicke DA's linear world map..), but in similiar interface like dragon age, 3rd person style, nice defined class/skill.. companions, unique character/gears etc etc..

any suggestion is appreciated!

p.s i playered the witcher 1.. risen.. DA2.. two worlds 2.. dont like BD2 cos it doesnt feel as same as DA..

p.s suppose be BG2, typo.

oh ye, i also played mass effect 2..didnt finished it though, but went quite far already, it's good game, but still prefer 3rd person style.. so i guess i was looking for something like wow-like of game which is offline...

Oblivion, Fallout 3 and Two Worlds 1/2 are the only RPGs with an open ended world.

Have you tried the rest of TES games? Morrowind can be played as a 3rd person but Arena and Daggerfall are only first person.

if you dont mind old style graphics maybe even KOTOR? knights of the old republic was decent.

Yeah, getting an open world is really hard to get with RPG elements other than Oblivion and Fallout.  It's either one or the other in most cases.  Baldur's Gate 1 & 2, Neverwinter Nights 1 & 2, Icewind Dale, Diablo Series, Titan Quest 1 & 2, Sacred, Dragon Age 1 & 2, Mass Effect 1 & 2...

Have you ever tried the Gothic series?  Those are a little more open than previously mentioned and have nice story driven RPG elements to them.  Not quite Fallout and Oblivion, but it's pretty slim pickins..

There's also a game called RUNE, back in the day.. Pretty fun 3rd person hack and slasher.  Norse Mythology and whatnot.  Had a pretty fun multiplayer as well.  It's a wonder why no one actually does a nicely done sword n' board arena game.

It isn't an open world RPG but it is an excellent game and is often overlooked but I would recommend Jade Empire.

I'd have to suggest (as others already have done) Mass Effect series (good continuous gameplay through as you can import your character to the next game and continue as the same person you were plus choices in one effect gameplay and story in the next) Knights of the Old Republic is also a great game and the foundation that an upcoming MMO is based on (SW:TOR) Morrowind is a good game also very open (i've spent hours in it and come no where near to completeing it in the years i've owned the game) Oblivion just forget, world feels too small and it can be completed in a day or 2. You've already tried witcher so that covers the games i'd class as RPG's. oh Gothic 3 and 4 are not too bad either, 1 and 2 take a while to get used to control method but 3/4 are close to the usual styles.

Morrowind!   get it or PC and you can get a but load of mods to.  pretty epic game.. i remember when my one friend killed a god,  some dude floating way up in Vivec I think.   Very proud moment for the skinny console player...  an accomplishment almost worthy of finally going outside and talking to a girl.

I second Borderlands I had many fun hours in that game, funny one liners and good fps 1st and 3rd person style playing if i remember right, and you can go anywhere you want at anytime pretty much.

You may also want to check STEAM out, to get a taste of some of the RPG's out there. They have many free demos to try out :)

Gothic 4 isn't anything like the first 3, very linear and has more in common with say..the Fable series. Not a bad game by any means, just doesn't feel like it belongs in the Gothic series.

Risen is the spiritual successor of Gothic, and a great game, though combat at the beginning is very tough until you get use to enemy behavoir and get some training.

Both games have demo's you can try, i'd also recommend Divinity 2:DKS, Two worlds 2, and the Drakensang series
