Free xp costs them absolutely nothing, offer us a PS3 game or something of value to compensate.
Fast XP is what keeps me away from SoE games...............funny how some people has different interpretation of "Gifts"
Anyway, what SWG players are getting? A pre-NGE server?
Never
I'll pass then, thank you very much
Complaining about fast xp and yet you list WOW as playing now. WoW is the reason why most games changed there leveling because of how fast you level in it. At least with EQ2 you can turn your AA xp up and level slower now. I usually play with mine set at about 30%xp 70%aaxp you don't level fast that way and if you are not rushing for end game you will end up with all your aa's way before you reach lvl 90.
See, to me this issue you mention here is all about perception. In my small time playing EQ2, every 10 levels of content is so similar the last it gets very boring post level 50, SO, I would prefer blowing my way to level 90 as fast as possible and then focusing my "endgame" time on going back and mentoring for low level stuff that I missed and progressing my character via AA xp and gear hunting.
WoW made the leveling "seem" fast because of how it was hidden under quest hubs and fun gameplay. Sure, it's even faster now due to Cataclysm, but that was just to help alt characters get through content faster since now 90% of Wow players know the game in and out and just want to get a new class to level cap. Of course, where WoW fails, is the endgame limitation of only running dungeons and grinding rep. WoW needs a healthy dose of alternate advancement mechanics.
Anyway, back to SOE, may take them up on the VG offer, as I found gaining xp in the midlevels a nightmare (lack of soloable questlines viable to get over certain levels). I want to get past the 30's so bad in that game, on every class I possibly can.
And did all of you not read the statement in it's entirety? They said that similar theft portection would be made available OUTSIDE the US as well.
And ZOMG what a bunch of whiners. No wonder all of you are burnt out on games no one can ever do anything good enough for you. You all sound like a bunch of little kids. Just like people who play WOW!!! And look at WoW the more people complain the worse it gets.
So I am content therewith with what Sony has offered me and yes up to now what has this really cost anyone here in $ other than time loss on the game? Myself it cost me some time to go get a new bank account because it seemed that mine didn't care enough about my security. I did a few things to ensure my ONLINE shopping is SAFER!! And put a fraud report in. Now when the game comes up I will sign ip for the protection and be covered for probably any losses that may be incurred due to this will be covered by a program that Sony is paying for to say that they want to help keep me safe. So I am most definatly not going to look a gift horse in the mouth.
So I lost nothing but a little time taken to secure myself better which I should have been doing in the first place!
I am suprised they even listed Vanguard. Not suprised that we are only getting double xp events.
Playing: PO, EVE Waiting for: WoD Favourite MMOs: VG, EVE, FE and DDO Any person who expresses rage and loathing for an MMO is preposterous. He or she is like a person who has put on full armor and attacked a hot fudge sundae.

You're right. We should all race online the moment the new super secure servers come back up and punch in our new CC numbers.
Rather than being upset at SOE, we should all be grateful they had such poor security that they lost 100 MILLION identities because it opened our eyes to our responsibility to be more secure in our own dealings online.
Thanks to the good people at Sony, we are all a little bit safer today...right?
A pre nge server would crash under the strain of a mass of over excited players, hehe. A lot of pre nge servers.....mmmmm, yes please
See why people hates SoE?
No one is asking to update the game but to open few servers with the game client of 2003.
Their refusal to admit defeat is so unbelieavebly stupid, it's beyond belief
I think it has also been said many times.
Even if SOE would want to put up pre-NGE servers, they can't.
1. They do not have the people (and thus needed expertise) from that time inhouse anymore to set these servers up and maintain them. Remember... the game was quite buggy (understatement), so you need devs to continue fixing old code!
2. Which I mostly believe is more the case, I think Lucas Arts is the REAL dealbreaker on this and just simply doesn't allow SOE to put up pre-NGE servers!
And especially now with SW:TOR coming up and seeing how much money they dumped in it... they do not want SOE to interfere and hijack potential subscribers away from them.
Remember.... Lucas Arts was the initiator of the NGE in the first place!
And did all of you not read the statement in it's entirety? They said that similar theft portection would be made available OUTSIDE the US as well.

I get the tongue in cheek nature of your post, you should change the last line however to :
Thanks to the good people who hacked Sony, we are all a little bit safer today...right?
Besides losing game time this last month how were YOU affected by Sony being hacked?
-Drive to the bank, 30 minutes drive, gas doesn't come free
-Time wasted there: 1 hour to change my Credit Card
-Time wasted on Amazon to changy my Credit Card info, 10 minutes
-Time wasted to change all our emails: 30 minutes
-Time wasted to inform my friend who didn't know about this: 10 minutes
-All the time worried someone could drain my CC card
You own a pc but not a phone?
I thought about it ....
Thats not even the issue .. the mind boggling issue is that people went to extremes to "safeguard" themselves from percieved threats without knowing all the information or how much at risk they were. Its interesting all the information now coming to light as to what was compromised and who exactly was threatened. Its far less dire than the chicken littles feared.
IMO, any respectable company would give everyone, with an account that was compromised, the free identity theft protection from debix. It amazes me anyone still plans on giving SOE their money and information. Sony doesn't need to just rebuild their network they need to disband SOE and start from scratch without the inept people they've put in charge of such an obvious fail. I know a lot of people hate Steve Jobs and Bill Gates, but the hammer would have fallen a long time ago if they were there.
Let's be honest here, no matter what they do, people are not going to be completely happy or satisfied with it. As an EQ player, they're giving us:
1. Free gaming time, and free gaming time = money because the last time I checked my cc statements, monthly subscription cost $14.99. $14.99 for 5 accounts between my g/f and I = $74.95. That's how much we'll save playing 1 month+ free when the services come up. That's a lot of money saved this upcoming months.
2. Double exp, increased named spawns, increased faction gains, these are all bonuses that draw players into the games, even before this whole hacking deal happpened. Every double exp weekend, the servers seem packed with people. So you know people like these double exp events, and offering such is obviously a plus to those that actually PLAY the games. This however means nothing to those that just play the forum games or possibly don't even play any SOE games at all. Which I would imagine is a large chunk of those that post on the forums these days.
3. 12 months worth of identity theft protection from Debix. Debix is a good fraud alert system, it's something you should have anyway. We live in the age where everything goes through electronic means, and that actually makes us all more vulnerable to identity theft. Credit monitoring is important, you'll be amazed at how many companies (your bank & cc companies included) sell your personal information without you ever knowing. Yes it's all in the fineprint, but who really reads the fineprints anyway right? If you don't have credit monitoring, now is a good time to get one. And you get to have a 12 month start for free thanks to SOE.
What I would like is for them to give us all a mount or pet for free. But I can bet you even if they did that, people will still complain.
Thats not even the issue .. the mind boggling issue is that people went to extremes to "safeguard" themselves from percieved threats without knowing all the information or how much at risk they were. Its interesting all the information now coming to light as to what was compromised and who exactly was threatened. Its far less dire than the chicken littles feared.
... This is absurd.
Fanboy dedication like this is mind-boggling..
(Edit: "Fanboy" isn't a kind term and I don't like to use it in mean ways generally but some people are just diehard-dedicated to the glowing goodness of companies that it astounds me. I don't mean to insult anyone here but when you come so avidly defend a company and their actions, even when they were clearly wrong, "fanboy" is what comes to mind.)
They were breached, the PR for it was handled terribly. As for "...Its interesting all the information now coming to light as to what was compromised and who exactly was threatened ...", Sony was neither quite sure or up-front about what was breached or what they did know. Good thing Corporate giants have our best interest at heart.
Damn right, you approach things cautiously if you're intelligent.
Banks and Credit Card companies are not the most helpful things restricted by privacy laws and corporate policies and if you just trust in the goodness of Sony, you may find your bank account empty which takes time to resolve, whether it be a week or 90 days, survinving on no funds is a nasty prospect. Luckily calling the utility companies and saying "My bank account was hijacked, I'm gonna be late" leaves your lights on, one time in ten.
You can never be too cautious about your personal information.
I'm not a PSN user but I certainly would have immediately changed everything from related passwords to credit card information.
Spec'ing properly is a gateway drug. 12 Million People have been meter spammed in heroics.

Why did you have to throw a "fanboy" remark into your reply? Go back and edit that to gain some credibility.
Sony didn't gush about what happened for many reasons , they had to figure it out first and then had to give enough information to be informative but not encite a mass credit-card canceling frenzy. Even with the little information presented some of you took extreme action, even filing lawsuits which is patently absurd.
Do not confuse approaching something cautiously with building fallout shelters, and certainly not with intelligence. The intelligent thing was to remain poised until enough information was given to act on.
I think I will ignore the bit about my bank account being empty because nothing about this whole fiasco, besides the chicken little few , would lead credence to such a leap.

It never fails that someone always trys to find some way to put blame on SOE players and trip over themselves to make excuses for SOE. I simply love how you have concluded that because people are upset that the carelessness of SOE has elevated their risk of identity theft or beyond somehow translates into people being burned out on video games and also the reason wow is a bad game. That string of logic is so absurd I cannot even believe I just read it.
Sorry, but no one should consider it a minor inconvenience to cancel credit cards, monitor credit/identity theft, change bank, redo online billing, etc as a reasonable outcome of playing a video game. This whole attitude of bending over and saying thank you is exactly what has lead SOE to earn the reputation it has.
Notice how noone is expressing shock and surprise that SOE was hacked? Notice no one making comments about how SOE is a company that really has its act together and that SOE would ever have a problem like this and completely fall down in handling it properly.
You can make as many excuses and aplogies as you want. Try to shift focus and blame on players for the outcome of this all you like, but no one is really surprised about SOE being involved in this, because that is the overwhelming expectation of SOE.
Just watch. In a few more months SOE will be headlining one more chapter in their long list of scandals and failures. You could almost make a Bingo game out of it.
Why did you have to throw a "fanboy" remark into your reply? Go back and edit that to gain some credibility.

No, I hate the term but sometimes the diehard dedication astounds me. This is probably the first time I've used it in anything but a joking way on the forums but this isn't about "My game is better than yers", this is a company that made a screwup that directly affects the real world.
I disagree, the intelligent thing to do was take the proactive approach. Noone had any idea how it was going to play out because Sony was not being very forthcoming with information. There are two scenarios--
CC Info is obtained, or enough information is obtained to obtain this. The public doesn't know which has happened when the first information has come out..
Some people do nothing, waiting for the fraud to occur first and find themselves strapped for cash or dealing with problems for several months or longer related to the breach.
Some people take the proactive approach and nothing happens. They "wasted" two hours of their lives or whatever and aren't subject to any more issues than spam mail and email. Minor fraud issues might occur.
Nothing vital is obtained. The public still doesn't does which has happend.
Some people do nothing, they saved a few hours.
Some people take the proactive approach and never think about it again. Nothing vital was stolen so all they get is the same junk mail and spam the less-cautions received. If they're open about it on the forums, they get teased and mocked, but hey, they were proactive.
Though I didn't mean "fanboy" in a derogatory fashion, it's no worse than to call proactive people "Chicken Little"s.

Sony made a screw up ? They got hacked ... someone else broke threw their security and stole information. They got hacked and no amount of security can stop anyone or website from getting hacked. Sumarily dismissing that if the culprits had not hacked Sony we would not even be discussing this is illogical.
There was nothing to base an proactive approach on ... all we knew was Sonys security was breached and data "might" have been stolen. Basing "proactive approachs" on rampant misinformation, mob fears, and arm chair analysts only demonstrates that you base your "proactive approach" on basically anything posted on the internet. What happened to making informed choices based on information? What happened to staying vigilant until enough information was avaliable to make an informed choice?
The issue was/is that people want .. no DEMAND, to be compensated for something they fear, not something that actually affects them.
I use chicken little to describe someone who states my bank account will be ripped off entirely, many examples of the same abound.
Fanboy was used chiefly because my opinion went against the grain , and obviously anyone who is not sweating bullets that their life is up for grabs, because of the security breach must be a fanboy.
I guess I'm a fanboy because I applaud the way Sony has handled the situation ....
Is there a word for making a decision based on fear?
1. Sony made a screw up ? They got hacked ... someone else broke threw their security and stole information. They got hacked and no amount of security can stop anyone or website from getting hacked. Sumarily dismissing that if the culprits had not hacked Sony we would not even be discussing this is illogical.

1. There've been numerous headlines on the issue. Sony got hacked in part due to poor security. There are practices and regulations governing how data is protected. A great analogy for this is a bank's safe being nothing but an interior room with a locked door. If someone robbed that bank, the government would and should go after the robbers but a separate team would be speaking to the bank about how they maintain their security.
2. No actually, this is where you come in with a proactive approach. You take responsible but not irrational actions to counter what you do know. You know your information may have been exposed so you act on that. That's what proactive is. I guess I need to clearly state that upon knowing that Sony believed their databases were breached and "did not believe CC information was accessed" is enough for me to call my bank. It's just not a hard task. You can mock people like me for taking this approach but we keep our information safe.
3. Yeah, Compensation is nice for PR and getting customers back. I'm not sure whether or not they're entitled to anything really but hey Sony offered it (possibly because of growing public demand).
4. There are nicer, if more wordy, terms that you can use, just as I could have. The terms we used got our points across. It wasn't an attack on you or anyone, but clearly you took it that way. I apologize. I wanted to make the point in one word and move on. I even briefly summarized it (prior to the edit) with "Diehard dedication astounds me".
By the way, not that its come up, but I don't view the hackers and some do. They're no white knights or any such thing. They broke the law and should be found.

After reading several of your posts, I can only assume that your parents pay your MMO subscription fees. I don't say that as an insult, nor am I age-ist. I just don't think anyone who actually has to deal with credit reports, and credit card bills, banks, identity theft, and credit reporting agencies could possibly be so flippant about this situation.
As to this "make good" package, the only "make good" package SOE should be worried about is the sound of hundreds of thousands of pissed off customers canceling their subscriptions the second their login servers come back on. SOE is culpable for their being incompetent.
30 days of free play time... please. Whoopdee Doo.
Besides losing game time this last month how were YOU affected by Sony being hacked?
-Drive to the bank, 30 minutes drive, gas doesn't come free
-Time wasted there: 1 hour to change my Credit Card

-Time wasted to inform my friend who didn't know about this: 10 minutes
-All the time worried someone could drain my CC card
Ok first of all driving to the bank is not required to change your card. All it takes is a phone call. So that was your choice. And probably would have taken no more than 15-30 minutes over the phone. And you didn't have to change all of your e-mails all you had to do was change your PW's and be careful about what e-mails you opened. And if your e-mail is secure in the first place they would not have allowed mail into your e-mail that was spam or from an unknown entity that you that you did not allow through.
And I hate to say this but if you were using an unsecure CC on the internet in the first place that was your option not to keep yourself safer in the first place. If your CC is unsecure that is what pre-paid cards are for and you can even secure those with an extra pin # if you get Visa you can get verified for it. All it takes is an extra few minutes to go to the site and verify it.
And as long as you changed cards then there would not have been much of a worry as to whether or not your bank account or credit card was going to be cleared out.
The only thing that most of these guys could do now is use our information to get credit in our names elsewhere which is identitiy theft which is what tehy are saying they are going to offer to help with. And that is also why we were all supposed to put in fraund alerts it keeps places from allowing identity theft people from getting the credit.
So in the end according to choices it could have even taken less time than it did which was only 2 hours and 20 minutes.
And @ Korosus. Sweety wait about 11 or 12 more years and see if you feel the same way. Because no I have no parents nor do they pay for my subs. However my parents taught me to act and not react as well as any therapist in the country will teach you to do. If I was to allow this to eat me up I would end up in the hospital more than likely because I would stay in it instead of moving forward and then I would wallow in it and then ugh that is just an ugly thought. Instead with the way I am dealing with it I am able to remain mostly stable instead of being more crazy then I already am ROFLMAO!!!
Considering none of you can offer anything in the way of damages (besides some mob mentality fear that a third world slub would take out a loan in your name ) your a bunch of ungratefuls.
I can't believe you're actually trying to argue this point. As soon as I heard about this I swore to not use sony products again and have put my PS3 on ebay. Do you realise how much of a near miss this was for most people? My friend has 10k credit card fraud on the card he used for Sony, is that affected enough for you? Could you be more ignorant of what hs happened?
-- Note: PlayNC will refuse to allow you access to your account if you forget your password and can't provide a scanned image of the product key for the first product you purchased..... LOL

2 - Knowing your information may have been exposed is a daily affair, now knowing that your information WAS exposed is information enough to take action on. I believe I just read the recent report that Sony posted in regards to what was stolen... and none of it was cause for me to cancel my credit cards nor begin consulting an identity theft company. I do not mock people for making informed decisions on protecting their personal information. I mock people whom reacted to quickly without any information to guide them other than what I've listed above. I also mock people who go to the extremes, earning the label of chicken little by proclaiming the worst case scenario's.
3 - We agree here. Suprising that this bit we do agree on because the entitlement is what spurned my first post in this thread. The people who want compensation for percieved damages and knee jerk reactions based on little credible information.
4 - I still contest that Fanboy is not a synonym for someone that basis desicions on credible information, not knee jerking to the roar of internet mobs. Just replace Sony with Kraft Foods .... I'd still hold the same position.
So in the end according to choices it could have even taken less time than it did which was only 2 hours and 20 minutes.
This type of response baffles me beyond belief. Why are you on the side of the company that has subjected millions of people to fraud? 2h20? Is that a joke? What are the people suppose to do that are vulnerable to identitfy theft? Sell their homes and legally change their names?
-- Note: PlayNC will refuse to allow you access to your account if you forget your password and can't provide a scanned image of the product key for the first product you purchased..... LOL

Proof or you're a liar, and as such I dismiss your post.
I'm waiting on the proof before I rip the story to shreds.

Playing: PO, EVE
Waiting for: WoD

Any person who expresses rage and loathing for an MMO is preposterous. He or she is like a person who has put on full armor and attacked a hot fudge sundae.
You're right. We should all race online the moment the new super secure servers come back up and punch in our new CC numbers.
Rather than being upset at SOE, we should all be grateful they had such poor security that they lost 100 MILLION identities because it opened our eyes to our responsibility to be more secure in our own dealings online.
Thanks to the good people at Sony, we are all a little bit safer today...right?
You want compensation for a knee jerk ?
Its a good thing they gave you identity protection AND free game time isn't it?
I get the tongue in cheek nature of your post, you should change the last line however to :
Thanks to the good people who hacked Sony, we are all a little bit safer today...right?
EQ1-AC1-DAOC-FFXI-L2-EQ2-WoW-DDO-GW-LoTR-VG-WAR-GW2-ESO

It never fails that someone always trys to find some way to put the blame on SoE and trip over themselves ignoring the culprits of the attack.
Spec'ing properly is a gateway drug.

Life sucks, buy a helmet.

This type of response baffles me beyond belief. Why are you on the side of the company that has subjected millions of people to fraud? 2h20? Is that a joke? What are the people suppose to do that are vulnerable to identitfy theft? Sell their homes and legally change their names?

Proof or you're a liar, and as such I dismiss your post.
I'm waiting on the proof before I rip the story to shreds.
