In a new update from Sony Online Entertainment with specific regard to its MMO player-base, the company listed specific compensation packages for those affected by the recent hacking attack on SOE's servers. The letter details each games compensatory items as well as the news that US customers will have access to a year's free credit monitoring through Debix, a well-known identity theft protection company.
First and foremost, all impacted players will receive 30 days of game time added to the end of the current billing cycle in addition to one day for each day the system is down. Additionally, many games are offering a variety of in-game items and special events to welcome players back once our services resume (per the outline below). This is true for both PC and PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system based products.
Additionally, we announced today that SOE will provide its U.S.-based Station Account holders with complimentary enrollment in an identity theft protection program through Debix, one of the industry's most reputable identity protection firms. For Station Account holders who live outside the U.S., SOE will be offering similar programs, if and as available, and will provide details as they're confirmed for each country or territory.

Is there even a way to unsubscribe with the network being down ? I was entertaining the thought of giving EQ a break since this delima happened and since I have started playing other games. Getting a little tired of them not locking down at least some kind of deadline on when the servers will be back up.. even if it is a vague one.
I also wonder how much the Progression servers will be less populated when it does go back online.

Watch your thoughts; they become words.
Watch your words; they become actions.
Watch your actions; they become habits.
Watch your habits; they become character.
Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.

Pretty weak compensation, other than the game time.
Oh boy! More of the same events and crap that you've been dropping on players for ages now, thanks SOE! I can't figure out why anyone wouldn't want to play your games...
Sony needs to clean house here and rid itself of vastly under achieving execs. This probably portends more layoffs for the underlings as if that is going to fix things.
This compensation I assume costs them in the millions, it's anything but "Weak".
A free year of identity theft protection, plus the game time and ingame fan faire is more than adequate for something they had little control over.
People let their rabid hatred for SoE interupt logical thought process, its astounding.
only one year of identity theft protection ? WEAK
plain out cheap
What about Planetside? Or did they forget it exists, yet again?
THat is really crappy if you ask me. That's it? For all this mess you get some double xp? WoW..Thank goodness I don't play anyt SOE games at the moment. If I did I would be furious. It's bad enough my PS3 is down pretty much..I'm definately thinkinga bout putting it up on Ebay and buying a 360...sorry Sony, you've really left a bitter taste in my mouth this time.
Uh, let's reread that. They're giving double xp, free time for one month + every day they have been down + station cash for some types of accounts + free id protection for a year for US citizens and if possible EU citizens. That is for those whose data have not been compromised!
They haven't mentioned what they will offer people whose identity information has been. I bet it will be more. What the hell do you guys expect?
SoE is not my favourite company right now, but I think what they're offering is decent. As an above poster said, this compensation alone is going to cost them millions, and that on top of the inevitable loss of customers this whole thing will have caused and their current loss of revenue from their services being down.
I am upset that they seem to be slacking on their EU customers again! It shouldn't be *if* available we will get id protection... they should do everything in their power to since it was only EU citizens who got their most important data stolen.
Everything else is whining for the sake of whining... typical behaviour from most forum posters it seems.
Playing MUDs and MMOs since 1994.
In this modern computer age of ours, information protection should be included as part of the development cost when making video games. In my opinion it shouldnt be added on later or be made optional, It should be a standard.
Even if you have to just add it on to your monthly subscription. I am sure there would be options even for free to play.

The best compensation would be to get the servers back up ASAP before the playerbase wonders off to other games.
yea so they can get hacked again and you all can cry and moan all over again.
Be the Ultimate Ninja! Play Billy Vs. SNAKEMAN today!
This is actually very unpleasant situation for Sony.
No networks or security system is 100% secure and with so much attention focused on Sony these days, it will be very tough for them to setup adequate security :-/
I like it...then again as we already can see, boohoo, SOE owes me this and that...whutevah...
That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!
I'm pretty sure the 3 players who haven't reached the level cap in Vanguard are all excited. That is, assuming they can pull away a former dev who knows how to flip the double XP switch.
lol...
It's so sad.
