Need a new game

EoDzeroEoDzero Member Posts: 45

MMO's I have played are EQ, EQ 2, Eve Online, WoW, City of heroes, Age of Conan, LOTRO, and Warhammer online. Some other i dont remember maybe.

I liked mostly EQ and Eve Online. I stopped playing mmos about a yr ago being eve online i played last which I played for way too long. I want a new game to play with a fairly large player base. I dont play online to play solo. I am fairly hardcore player if I like the game 6+ hours a day so long grinds and such arent a turnoff.

Any suggestions? Thinking I might check Aion/rift? Any ionput is welcome. thanks

im thoroughly enjoying my non mmorpg DOTA type game, has good pvp, its difficult/challanging, i dont need to grind a character for a month and its got no sub. and it feels like your jumping right into endgame type pvp, lots of actions ect.

beats the shit out of typical battleground esque pvp matches and should burn enough time before TSW or GW2 comes out.

Really though, the game im playing is really soothing for anyone with MMORPG burnout.  Its hard as hell too, for a new player at least.

But yeah, aion/rift....same old played them both, play aion if you like asian style mmorpgs, play rift if you like wow type. they both look diffrent than the games youve played, but other than that...

I am in the same boat man, I have been an Avid MMo player for years, and before that 15+ years on a MUD. However.. I am also quite bored of the norm.  (Lately I spend the most time playing Black Ops). I have however tried a ton of stuff, and can give you my biased opinion about some of them.

Wow - Old, Boring, Way lacking in creativity lately. You can tell it's more about the Blizzard Paycheck than the "Great game".

Rift - Almost identical Wow clone. Boring, EXTREMELY liniar. You will run out of stuff to do in under a week.

Dungeons and Dragons Online - Bad. there is some serious potential here, but it seems the dev team "just dosn't get it"

Age of Conan - Semi interesting, lots of potential. Again seems like the Dev team has lost interest.

Allods online - Wow clone, Hope you like wierd purple characters with no apparent lore.

Runes of Magic - Wow clone, Extremely liniar, boring.

MapleStory - Not gonna lie to you .. there is a reason it's been around so long and has such a HUGE player base.

LOTR Online - Way too Fanboy'ish, Dev'd by Fanboys, run by Fanboys, Played by Fanboys.

Eve Online - I coulda really, really loved this game.. but then I mined an asteroid for 3 days, and was killed by space pirates. :(

EverQuest 2 - Just recently picked this up again, and although it has TONS of things that could be fixed, It has by FAR the most potential to be a great game.

DarkFall Online - Great potential, Extremely unfogiving, Lacking in "stuff to do"

Aion - Run by gold farmers, played by gold farmers, even the doods look like chicks.

    Vanguard - ** Researching**

DC Universe Online - Fun, but gets old quick.

    I'll stop there..

There is a ton of other stuff out there I know, but to be honest, it's all either a Wow clone, or a pathetic attempt to snatch up some of the MMO market by gaming companys.

As for up and coming stuff, I think by far the most interesting "Was" KOTR but to be honest.. how many star wars games have there been over the years, and how many where acctually any good.. (Few and far between). I think the most interesting up and coming has got to be "The Secret World" looks to me like they are definately trying to break away from the norm, and do something different, whilst still keeping that MMO vibe we all crave so much.  However .. it will all come down to gameplay, and the games ability to keep people interested. Definately looks cool, thats for sure.

Anyways Keep in mind these are all MY opinions on stuff, and I don't mean to step on anyones Epeens, in regards to "Thier" game of choice. The simple fact of the matter is we play what we like. I for 1 still have an active Wow account (I ONLY raid on) and an active EQ2 account to give me something to waste time with. Other than that I hit some blackops, Or sift through tons of Indi RPG's looking for treasure.. (Gothic 3, Titan Quest, Kings Bounty, Mount and Blade.)

Good luck, and lemmie know what you find, because as I stated at the begining of this post.. I too am in search of that elusive "Late for work, havn't slept in days, lost my GF, and now have a sweet gandalf beard goin on" MMoRPG.

I would say play Rift.  I play and enjoy it.

You will find it similar to most of the MMO's you have listed but has its own nitch.  Right out of the starter zone within an hour you will be able to join an open world raid group and destroy world mobs/bosses invasions and rifts.  A cool way to introduce casual and new players to raiding and in-game community.  I am not saying you are new, just stating that this game does acknowledge these mechanics from the beginning of the game instead of late.

Cool game worth the $50 and free month (atleast).

Years ago when I played age of conan from launch the secret world was about with little info and it seemed cool then. After the way funcom treated its customers(friends and myself) on age of conan issues I will never give them any more of my business.

Never heard of DOTA I'll have to check that out see what its about.

I have for the past few days been playing Brink and it is a fun FPS.

I may end up having to lower my standard and settle on something that doesn't make baby jesus cry. Rift has a trial now maybe I'll give it a try.

Archeage seems interesting. I enjoy pvp. Open pvp like eve online is hard to find, but its way fun. Even though sometimes it can ruin your day.

Lol..Vanguard way to linear, that's the funniest comment i have read for weeks. Of all the MMO you list Vanguard is the least linear. The only thing that sets it apart from sandbox is that it has levels instead of a skill base system.

If  Vanguard is way to linear then what is WOW-AOC-LOTRO-DC UNIVERSE-AION....

OP - If you have a SOE account then log into Vanguard,it's free for 45 days and find out whether it's "waaaaaay to linear".

    Open Vast world.

Fair enough sir. I will in fact give it another look. I checked it out a while back and it just seemed to be Take quest A, Turn it at B, Take quest C turn in to D.. in a line around the map. Though .. It has been a while. In all fairness perhaps I was just crusing the piles of MMO garbage, and didn't give it an honest go. My B. Will report back once I have another look.

Hmm big titles that are coming up are Star Wars: The old Republic and Guild Wars 2.

I really dunno which to recomment from the existing MMOs.

    Err, Vanguard was NEVER linear.

You get a couple different areas for every level and you can do various things in it.

You can freely explore the world at any time, although if you arent in areas for your level, you'll either get no xp or will have to avoid any combat.

If you liked EQ, you might love FF XI. It stills pretty popular, is not that much of a grind like it was before and has one of the best storyline in the MMO world.
