A post has cropped up on the official DC Universe Online forums that speculates that Chris Cao is leaving Sony Online Entertainment. This is, as yet, an unsubstantiated rumor but we thought we'd pass it along. Discuss amongst yourselves.
Is the rumor true that Chris Cao has left (or been released from) Sony Online Entertainment? If so who is the new lead developer now on DCUO?

No offence, but posting articles on game-forum-speculation? I think I'd have at least waited to see if the thread would get an SOE reply first.
I want a mmorpg where people have gone through misery, have gone through school stuff and actually have had sex even. -sagil
I can see the headline, already:
"Don't have a Cao, Man!"
Oh come on guys. Rumors are fun
Besides, if they waited till the the statement was substantiated, then they wouldn't be the first to get the story...and that wouldn't be good journalism, right? =D
Speculation is perfectly fine for a site like this.
I wouldnt be surprised if SoE had to change their company name and hire a whole brand new entire team for everything they do.

This isn't a signature, you just think it is.
Uh, isn't Cao the executive creative director, not the executive producer? Blakely was the executive producer, at least that's what it says in the credits. Teh jurnalizm iz teh gud!
I make spreadsheets at work - I don't want to make them for the games I play.
I like Chris Cao, in all the videos he seemed like a very down to earth character, especially in regards to the feature list. I think he understood what people were looking for with this title, but as things progressed he couldn't get it all done in time. If he's still there I hope he's being treated well, if he isn't there... I hope he applies at BioWare.
I agree that speculation is just fine....from regular schmos like us. When the folks running the site post an "article" based on one question that was asked on another forum with no backing, it's just plain poor form.

Keep in mind sometimes the forum users research information better then journalists. MSNBC journalists for example...
Can't Bill just call RadarX and find out? Break the story...don't report a rumor.
$10 says he heads to Bioware like Dallas did.
Why would anyone wish Chris Cao on Bioware? It isn't like he has a track record of working on successful projects.
I know the dozen or so hardcore SWG players hate him for the NGE but I always found him engaging especially in promo videos, one of the reasons I decided to go for DCUO (and yes I am still enjoying the game) is that his interviews always reminded me of a kid designing his favourite toy. If he wasnt a fan of the DC setting he did a good job coming across as a gamer. I do think however that DCU needs some new creative direction as the two face dungeon was very dissapointing compared to the other stuff in DCUO.
If he leaves I wish him the best of luck and hope some one even better steps up.
You say that but he designed the controls so awkwardly and left the game so exceedingly bare.
How could he be a gamer and make a game like DCUO - half finished?

It's a little strange there has been no respone from any SOE employees on the discussion board on this issue. In the last 48 hours they have responded to all sorts of DCUO speculation and questions and yet haven't touched this.
Does it really matter? I mean... who is still playing?
I just logged into one of the EU servers and there was "litterly" no one around! I mean... NO ONE! The server is completely dead! Not a single peep in chat even.
I knew the population dropped quite substantially after the first month. And now the 2 weeks downtime didn't help either. But a totally empty server? Outch!
I play in a NA PS3 server and there were plenty of people on last night. The server mergers are also imminent. So the status of the lead developer of DCUO is pretty important for DCUO players. And the silence thus far from SOE is deafening.
I was checking out my EU PC server and there was no one.
yeah, the PS3 version is doing quite a bit better than the PC version. doesn't have those clunky controls. The Pc version definitely feels like a port, hence the low population. I have characters on 4 of the NA PC servers, they're not completely dead, but close
He shouldn't be in any creative capacity. His big 'creative moment' was making monkey pets in EQ2. That is how he got promoted and put in charge of the DCUO fiasco. Experience does not mean ability.
'Sandbox MMO' is a PTSD trigger word for anyone who has the experience to know that anonymous players invariably use a 'sandbox' in the same manner a housecat does.

No game is more fun than the one you can't play, and no game is more boring than one which you've become familiar.
How to become a millionaire:
Start with a billion dollars and make an MMO.
Pathetic thing is City of Heroes has the best population out of any Superhero MMO by a huge margin. DC even with name branded characters is the least. Pretty sad considering how nice DC looks. The game format is based on GRIIIIND though and gets old quick.
Hey SOE, please take a hint, and direct DC into more of a immersive persistent world, instead of adding another instance/mini here and there.
LOL!
I am sure Bill & company already 'know ' but until a formal statement is issued by $OE, this is just a 'rumor' good enough to make a headline in this news forum. Chris Cao going MIA (probaby axed) is no surprise given how badly DCUO failed.
Just popping in to let you all know that this has now been confirmed by SOE.
